Woop.

 

I went for my second ever custom loop for my current TR 2990WX build. Very satisfied. I still think its the only way to go for a CPU like that. All core OC to 4.1Ghz certainly makes for a hot chip under heavy load.

 

Will have to go for my list of components but I do love the Heatkiller waterblocks, huge chunk of copper sexiness, certainly gets the job done.

Trying to find a case to actually fit my HWLabs radiators which are slightly wider than normal. They're 140mm radiators, but 153mm wide which makes things tough.

 

Currently looking at maybe the Phanteks Luxe 2, just so long as it can fit my HWLabs GTX420 at the front. At least before my tubing gets even worse.

Yeah those ever so slightly wider rads can certainly be an issue. I myself have the be quite! Dark Base Pro which was able to fit in my Black Ice Nemesis 420 GTR Radiator. I have tubing going a few places in my case as you will see below. Having two GPU's with AIO coolers along with my WC loops creates for some interesting routing lol

At first I thought it would affect it negatively and I am sure that technically it does by a degree or 2 with it being mounted in front, that being said the cooling works just fine. I have an all core (32) OC at 4.1Ghz, full load I get to about 70C when its balls to the wall. I cannot complain with that.

As long as my financial situation doesn't change, I plan on doing a custom loop for my next PC--which I'll be building sometime within the next year. Might save up and wait until next gen Ryzen & 3000 series Nvidia, we'll see. Going to look at Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales if they're good enough, though I want to save up and pay off some other stuff first.

 

Is it way way too ambitious to try rigid tubing for my first build? Acrylic or PETG.

I don't think it is too ambitious to go with rigid tubing on your first attempt. I would advise purchasing a little more tubing than what you need so you can practice with it and get a feel for it, plus if anything goes wrong you have spare. Also be prepared for the extra time with it as it is a little more time consuming over soft tubing which you just cut to length as appropriate. It would be a pretty nice upgrade, but I'm probably going to stick with it for now.

Next upgrade will probably be swapping out the Vegas for two more Radeon VIIs. If I go that route I might need to swap out one of my PSUs. Currently running a 1300W and a 1000W, and if I OC everything it gets pretty close to maxed out.

I am personally sticking with the 2990WX as it suffices for me on the workloads and gaming. Upgrading for me would just be to spend money for no real gain. Any reason you are running two PSU's or was it case you had two already and it is cheaper than buying a single super PSU ? Upgrading those Vegas would likely give you a nice boost. How is CF working out for you ? SLI as we know is hit and miss with support. My 2080Tis constantly beg for a proper spanking by a game with proper SLI support haha.

With 4 OC'd GPUs and the Threadripper OC'd to 4075 it can pull over 2000W. Even running everything with lower power limits, it can still hover around 1600W. I've never been comfortable running a PSU 24/7 right at the rated max output, especially on consumer boards where you don't have the ability to easily run multiple redundant PSUs. Running a pair of PSUs is even easier now since my current case (PC-O11 Dynamic) is built to house two PSUs. I haven't dome much gaming in CF since I was running a pair of 7970s, but all the games I play now run just fine for me on either a single vega64 or the VII.

 

Back on topic. A bit of a Frankenstein bench rig, with a 980 KPE and a 7990, running on a Prime X370-Pro with an R7-1700.

Ohh that is fair enough, I did not realize you were running 4x GPU's in that rig. It all makes sense now. I would do the same if I were in your shoes. That is a power hungry combo for sure though. While it is obvious 4xGPU's can pull a fair whack, the Threadrippers alone when OC'ed certainly can pull some watts when under load. Liking the bench rig btw. Aren't all bench rigs a little bit Frankenstein though :p

It is a fact that running a TR OC without WC is certainly not advisable. Without WC there is no way I could sustain a 4.1Ghz All core OC.

Looks like it is time to start opening up some windows in my office.

 

With ambient temps at 21°C, my CPU temp goes up about 5°C when the three Radeon VIIs are pegged at 300W. Cold front moving in with lows around -15°C, so it will be cooler next week.

 

I will probably have to add one more radiator to my loop this summer if I want to keep the 3960X running at 4.3GHz. My previous systems with many power hungry 2 GPUs were running Xeons, so I rarely had to worry about increased CPU temps.

Getting the same here actually. It is a good time to optimize those OC's to see if you can bring those temps down with some reduced Vcore and what not. :cool:

It looks a bit more blue in person. I really like the color #4400FF, so I was trying my best to emulated it.

 

And yesss I love the black soft tubing. It really discourages the use of dyes, since you can't see through it [iMO], so it makes maintenance a lot easier. Also, I am super happy with the Raystorm Neo WB, looks good and performs well.
