Who is getting an Nvidia 30 series GPU ?

ENTERPRISE

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So like the title, who is tempted by Ampere, the new Nvidia 30 Series ? I know I am thinking about it but I am still thinking the leak/rumor of the 3080Ti specs are a little steep!

I wonder if the new series will take advantage of PCI-E Gen 4 ? I do know if I went with a new GPU from the Ampere serious, I am dropping SLI.

**EDIT**

Found this video which is informative, speculation, but sensible I find.

I have been thinking of hopping on the Nvidia 3080 Ti for a while now and will probably get one myself. Really I want something like the 1080 Ti was @ release, where it stayed relevant for so long (and still is relevant). Basically it comes down to useful lifespan & value for the money over the next 5 years for me.

Have to figure, even at $1000 purchase price if I get 5 years out of it that's only $200 per year and not so bad at all. But buying a $200 video card every year would be a lower mid range system, not to mention dealing with driver issues and such. I almost have to laugh at how I can justify a $1000 PC part though. ?

I just built the whole new system for my RTX 2070 so there's no way I can afford new parts for a while. Also, was looking @ an official Nvidia webinar for raytracing. figured I might "attend" for this reason "All live webinar attendees will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one (1) NVIDIA® TITAN RTX™. You must attend the entire duration of the webinar to be eligible." Then I read the terms & conditions from Nvidia! here's what I REALLY loved!

2. The prize of this giveaway promotion consists of the following: one (1) winner will win one (1) NVIDIA® TITAN RTX™GPU (suggested retail price -$2,499); odds of winning do not depend on the number of eligible entries received. The winner may not substitute the prize for its cash equivalent. NVIDIA reserves the right to substitute any of the prizes with any article or service of similar or greater value at its sole discretion. Prize may not be assigned or transferred. (So far nothing objectionable!)

4.By entering this promotion you expressly consent to NVIDIA's collection, processing and use of your personal information that you provide in connection with this promotion (including, but not limited to, disclosure of your name and state of residence on a winners list and making such list available to the public) in accordance with NVIDIA’s privacy policy, which can be accessed at http://www.nvidia.com/object/privacy_policy.html. (Not WILD about the putting my info out to the world, but if you want a 2500.00 card,SOME cost has to be paid back)

7. NVIDIA makes no warranty or representation as to any of the prizes and is not liable if you experience technical difficulties, due to reasons not attributable to NVIDIA, including but not limited to manufacture defects, model incompatibility, and restrictions imposed by the manufacturer.(REALLY?? No WARRANTY???? )

And People wonder WHY I don't want to trust Nvidia anymore...

I'd be surprised to see more than 6k shaders on the TI. Say they clock it a bit higher, new arch, faster vram, make RT features actually feasible and nv could charge a pretty penny for a much smaller die... At 8k+ shaders I'd see myself jumping on it asap.

Same as that. I am thinking 6K possibly 6.5K. If it is 8K then frankly that is an insane leap. So will the cost I reckon haha.

Heavily depends on prices for me as well. I don't have much of an urge for new hardware at the moment, which is a bit of a blessing I suppose, but I also wouldn't be surprised if one of my cards kicks the bucket sometime in the not-too-distant future. Granted, I still have two R9 Furys lying around that I keep mentioning, and they still pack a punch, so even that wouldn't warrant new cards. Furthermore, I find myself not playing many new AAA titles that demand a lot of GPU power these days, so that helps out in its own way. Plus there are other things in life that are calling for my wallet at the moment, so I suppose I've gotta pick and choose which hobby gets my attention.

At the end of the day I guess I've never been one to jump on new GPUs since they tend to be so expensive, but I'll happily pick up the high end cards from their generation when they're getting replaced and/or go on clearance. That is how I purchased my last four GPUs, after all.

The only reason I would possibly get one is I am thinking of ditching SLI, so I might as well sell both 2080Tis, get a single 3080Ti...and the rest is profit ?! lol.

Still on my 1080 Ti that I got in April 2017 - it's been a champ for the past 3 years and probably the best GPU I've owned. It's still a top tier contender after 3 years - which I find very... odd.

Depending on the price I might spring for a 3080 Ti, but I would want to wait for a waterblock and potentially the FTW3 version of it too.

I'm not. I'm using a 2070 at the moment and it's more than enough for what I need. Unless my 2070 breaks out of warranty, I'll be likely to only buy a 50 or 60 series card.

I'm completely undecided on the future of my GPU. Just going to sit back and see what happens like most, since prices are just too extreme for my modest gaming habits anymore.

1) RTX 3000 pricing..

2) AMD... Will they finally pull their heads out of the sand like they did on the CPU side of things? Good GPU w/ good drivers? I doubt it yet, but we'll see.

My budget for a video card is $399-499, so I'll take whoever puts out the better (....and more stable *cough cough AMD*) card in my range. It sucks that my budget feels very entry level now.

I'd also like to see a bit of a drop in price on xx70 tier Nvidia cards. Everybody remembers the 1080Ti for it's incredible, long lasting performace, but forget a card like the GTX 970 that was affordable and offered incredible value, pretty much matching or beating the 780Ti for way less money. RTX 2070 launch price missed this a bit IMO.

Don't get me started on AMD drivers. Granted their cards have been underwhelming IMHO hardware wise, but they really shoot themselves with their drivers. Rumor mill makes it sound like that their next round of cards could possibly be head turners...but even if they are, the drivers just make me cry lol.

Yeah, it does take quite a while for their drivers to actually be good. I had an HD 7950. It launched in 2012 and the drivers weren't good until 2015ish.

NICE DUDE! I'm glad you finally have been able to witness the power!

It's absolutely unbelievable. I can't believe some people hate on it so much. Maybe some people just have issues perceiving it properly? Totally felt like I was in another universe..

To tow the party line though, I would like higher res and a bit more FOV than the headset I tried. Was thinking the upcoming HP Reverb G2 may be the one for me (if price is reasonable). Definitely going to own VR soon though. Which is obviously going to push me towards a GPU that can handle it.

Every person I've seen complain about VR being terrible has either never used it, or used their phone with that Google Cardboard thing. The only legit problems I've heard from people who have used proper VR instead of their phone is the resolution is too low (first gen headsets, the Vive Pro and Valve Index improve on it significantly) and the FOV is too low (the Index does improve on that).

I have tried VR, I liked it. Perhaps it is the old school gamer in me, I still love rocking the chair, keyboard and mouse.

lol,I started gaming on my comp late in life, I guess I'm more of a hybrid since I use my Logitech F710 to fulfill my needs. I just wish cd projekt red or GOG would remaster the first Witcher game with control support.;) Then life would be complete.:D

I was rocking in the chair playing diablo 2 on a titanic fake movie theater screen with keyboard and mouse E. :p, you just have to be pretty good at knowing your keyboard since you cant see it.. which I think most of us here have no problem with.

Did GTA V with a controller too, that was what made me decide id prefer one of the high res VR kits, oculus rift was a little fuzzy on the text playing that was and words on the corners of the screen a but blurry, hopefully the index or hp reverb g2 have better sweet spot and crisper image.
