DDR5 has been a long time coming but with an approx 2021 release (possibly) then it certainly is not far off, certainly makes you hold off of any upgrades. Nothing worse than upgrading your PC platform only to have a major hardware shift happen just around the corner !

Yea, we know for a while that it's launching this year, I was invited to JEDECs DDR5 event, but couldn't afford to get there. Anyways AMD will be the first one to utilize it and atm looks like for consumers it will launch with AM5 platform late 2021 or early 2022, so there will be 1-2 generations of CPUs until it launches, for enterprise it will come this year from what I can gather, but I'm not sure what will be able to run it, maybe next gen of EPYC.

Yeah I reckon AMD will be the first platform to support DDR5 both in the enterprise market and consumer market. I look forward to seeing some of the consumer related benchmarks when DDR5 is out. I wont be going DDR5 for a little while, even after its release as I will not have started my upgrade cycle for a while lol.
