Sony Delays PS5 June Reveal Event

"We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4. While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard," the statement reads.

Sony originally had announced last week a PS5 reveal event for this Thursday, June 4, which would have debuted games set for Sony's next-gen console, the PlayStation 5. Since that announcement, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic the world is facing, protests around the United States and the world have been ongoing, centering on police brutality following the death of George Floyd.

The reasoning for the delay may be a political reason, but please keep politics out regardless of which "side" you're on. It never ends well.

To my understanding didn't CDPR just do something similar for an event related to Cyberpunk 2077?

They did. I'm not sure if they explicitly gave a reason as to why, but I'm sure it's for the same reason the PS5 event got delayed.

I think it is correct for Sony and other companies to delay reveals as in reality, the world has bigger problems right now. Not saying the world should stop, but I think a delay is certainly fair.

They did. I'm not sure if they explicitly gave a reason as to why, but I'm sure it's for the same reason the PS5 event got delayed.

They stated it was to not take attention away from the current riots and protests and whatnot. Didn't quite work the way they wanted it to though, since they got a whole slew of angry replies on Twitter asking why they've never done that before for any other global political issues (Hong Kong, etc.)

For sure. Seemed a bit unexpected to me as well since their community is usually so supportive.

Well I have seen the memes making there way through social media and it really does look like Sony take their design tips from routers lol. At least Microsoft stayed true to their design...its a box lol.

I don't like the design at all. My name for it is the Jetson machine.

It looks like they wanted to incorporate front intake vents and find some nice way to conceal them but this isn't really doing it for me.

Sometimes simple and elegant is the answer, especially when it's something people want in their livingroom entertainment center.. I would be perfectly content with the shape of a PS2 and the glossy piano black color of a ps3...

Also, this thing is BIG. So on the bright side, it may run nice and cool. But you sure won't be squeezing it in your existing entertainment center...
