GTA 6: Analyst Speculates on 2023-2024 Release Window

Grand Theft Auto 6 could be released in Fiscal Year 2024 (April 2023 to March 2024), according to a financial analyst's assessment of the company's planned marketing spend – but there are other non Grand Theft Auto-related possibilities for that spend.

Analyst Jeff Cohen (via VentureBeat) points to recently released financial information from Take-Two, parent company of GTA developer Rockstar, which discloses the company's minimum marketing spend for the next five financial years. Cohens noticed that the latest information pointed to the company shifting a spike in marketing spend from FY 2023 to FY 2024, with at least $89.2 million now set aside for that year.

Just though I would check the gaps between GTA releases: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto

That is a fair gap if they were to release then, however that being said the community mods etc have kept the latest GTA living and breathing very well, so perhaps Rockstar thought they could wait it out a little longer before the next release. I guess one way to look at it is that it gives time for a very polished product. Further to this those timescales also make some sense considering that the next GTA title will also be a console favorite so It makes sense to be released after the next gen release to polish it up for that hardware subset as well.

The online portion of the game is what's keeping the game alive. Mods are helping as well as GTA V has consistently been in Steams top selling game for the last 5 years. What I am worried about however is the single player in GTA VI. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take2 said a couple of years ago that they want the next GTA game to have a shorter single player and they want Rockstar to focus more on the Online aspect of the game. That, plus Dan Houser leaving Rockstar without publicly giving a reason has me worried for the quality of the next GTA game story.

Dan has been with Rockstar since GTA 2 and the GTA series is basically his thing. I don't see why he would leave unless Take2 were forcing him to take the game in a direction that he doesn't want it to go. Not long after Take2 announced how much money they were making from Shark Cards for GTA Online, Dan in a very polite way basically said that GTA isn't going how he wants it to because of Online and the Shark Cards.

Yeah the online part has helped a huge amount to its success. I actually completely forgot about Dan Houser leaving which could be a serious blow, but if Take2 want to reduce the single player portion of the game, that would be a huge mistake. Sure the online will always outlast the single player element but every game needs an attractive single player story line to draw people in, plus it sets the foundation for a good online play experience. I guess we will just have to wait and see !

What's the betting that GTA VI won't be out until V's online is well dead.

Not sure they would want to leave it that long...lets face it, that could go on for a good while more.

As soon as they announce GTA VI coming out, the amount of positive press may make V's sales rebound though.

I believe that did happen with GTA IV when GTA V was announced.
