  • [TECHSPOT] [email protected] now has access to over 470 petaFLOPS of distributed compute power to research Covid-19

What started as a call to action from PCMR and Nvidia has resulted in some 400K volunteers joining [email protected] to donate computing resources aimed at studying Covid-19. Before gaining traction within the PC gaming and enthusiast community, Dr. Greg Bowman stated there was around 30K active volunteers folding Covid-19 related WUs.

According to Bowman, with just 30K volunteers dedicated to Covid-19, [email protected] was around an estimated 100 petaFLOPS of computing performance. Now, with over 400K, [email protected] is capable of 470 petaFLOPS of distributed computing performance. Or, put another way, about twice the peak compute of the Summit supercomputer. Summit has a peak compute of 200 petaFLOPS, with a LINPACK benchmark of 148.6 petaFLOPS.

Wow that is some serious power, it is good to see people coming together to fight Covid-19. To think that it is twice the peak compute of Summit, then again when you think of all the computers around the world with some grunt in them, it is not that surprising.

Unfortunately there's already some people taking advantage advantage of people willing to help. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...home-phishing/ and it's also reported on tomsguide. So peeps need to make sure they get their software from a reputable source (like us,hint hint... ) The ransomware is worse in some cases. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...irus-phishing/
