Windows 10 2004 (2020 May Update) Now Available

ENTERPRISE

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was just using my favorite tool for grabbing Windows ISO's (Windows ISO Downloader) and notice that I can now download the ISO for Windows 10 2004 (2020 May Update). I have attached the tool used to this post for your convenience. Select "Windows 10" from the right hand section, from the drop down on the left browse to the "Windows 10 May 2020 Update" and select your edition (Ignore that it says coming soon), then click on confirm, select your preferred language from the drop down menu on the left and click confirm. You will then be presented with the option for a 32/64bit download, click on the one you want and voila.

Happy upgrading all !

Wow, really nice! This is a great tool and very useful, thank you! I am often testing different versions of W10 for benchmark efficiency, this makes it nice and easy to grab any one I want.

There is another one out there like it but cannot recall its name. This one has saved me a few times so thought I would mention it :)

1909 was a good build. Running 2004 and not run into any issues as of yet.

...I thought I upgraded my AMD TR system to 2004...downloaded it through Windows Update, went through the install cycle on boot-down and boot-up, and everything is working fine, other than it still shows as '1909'. Also, the update was mostly about Intel microcode issues ?!

Really ? Mine shows as 2004. If you try the upgrade through the upgrade assistance through the MS website I wonder if it tells you that you need to upgrade still ? Find it odd that the build number has not updated.

Tx...yeah, kind of weird. I'm backed up with work projects right now but looking forward to solve that mystery...going through MS Web site will be my next step (rather than repeatedly going through my 'internal' Windows Update sheet which tells me that everything is up-to-date and nothing new to download)

EDIT - ...while the regular 'Windows Update' still didn't pick up version '2004', the recommended web-based Windows 10 Update Assistant did...everything working fine so far, including displayed version number :)

...had a bit of time to run some CPU and GPU benches with vers.'2004'; nothing too definitive, but it looks like Win 10 '2004' is a bit faster in my 'short' test suite for both proc and GPU, apart from booting much, much faster. Of course the version upgrade ruined my prior custom desktop (colour and other) settings and is obsessed by Microsoft Edge, but other than that...so far, so good

Glad you got it sorted out. I have not run any benches on 2004. In all honesty it would all be paper figures as there's nothing noticeable from normal use. I find it the same as 1909.

Quick update: After I sorted it all out per above (with vers. 2004 correctly showing in Windows 10), the 'regular' Windows update now finally also wants to install the full 2004 update...again (1%...2%...grrr). Windows update missed it before and I went the route described above. Microsoft... :angry_throw:

say what U want about Windows, but I'm running the Windows Insider Program on a Dell Dimension 3100 from 2006 and just put the Windows 10 2004 update on it.:pOnly changes I've made to the machine were to up the ram to 3Gb and to add a video card.(I cut the Pci-e X1 slot so an x16 card would fit and it worked, card upgrade cost=under $10.00 and ram I had sitting around.) Will the current Mac OS run hardware this far back? :rolleyes:dda42b866132.jpg

As a follow up, the chromium ver. of Edge is now the default version that's offered with Windows starting with this update. Is it worth it? Well, the older hardware system I mentioned above struggles with 720hd youtube videos. In FireFox you can notice the occasional frames being dropped to keep from buffering but when the same video is played in the new Edge under the same conditions I couldn't notice any frame drops.FireFox had the Singers hand jump from 1 position to another when reaching for the mic stand several times throughout the video for example but that didn't happen in Edge. The Video was Purple Rain by Prince in 720.Audio quality of that video also seemed to be clearer/crisper when playing in Edge.

...as long as we can switch 'default' to whatever browser we want, it is an annoyance, but not much more than that...makes you wonder though about Microsoft being tone-deaf given the various regulatory cases it lost on similar behaviors already. I guess the lure of 'big data' is just too strong, with the benefits outweighing the (legal) costs ?

Maybe I worded that poorly, it offers to change from your current default(for example chrome) AFTER the chromium version of edge is installed instead of the prior non-chromium version of edge.Edge has ALWAYS been installed, before it was non-chromium,now it defaults to the chromium version being installed. The actual BROWSER YOU USE is still left @ your choice.:) They went from the big e icon to what looks almost like the chromium icon.;) 783d1689456d.jpg

I need to download the new Edge Chromium version, anyone had any particularly positive experiences ?

Just loading the basic microsoft homepage with the browser signed in but NOT SYNCING, I can scroll down the page as fast as I can turn the wheel and the and it keeps loading new news stories fairly well.Even tried it with 15 tabs open & it kept up.:) Edit: Only thing I've run across is a friend having issues with some pages loading, think it may relate to this. "In the default Balanced mode, Tracking Prevention blocks most third-party trackers from sites you haven't visited, as well as "known harmful trackers." Go to Settings > Privacy and Services and change this setting to Strict if you want to block third-party trackers, even from sites you've visited. Note that this option effectively works as an ad blocker.

Occasionally, you might find a site that breaks when the Strict setting is on. The quickest way to troubleshoot that sort of problem is to click the padlock icon in the address bar and then, under the Tracking Protection heading, turn the switch to Off.

That automatically adds an entry for that site under the Tracking Prevention Exceptions heading. Turn the switch back to On to remove the exception from the list."

I think it may be breaking some of the sites he normally visits with it on. ;)

Well that is good to know, I mainly use Chrome as it is and have no issues, just wondered if MS had managed to bungle it lol.

Weird that we're now in September and I still haven't had the May update available for me. I would download it and install it manually, but I did get my Windows key for a suspiciously cheap price on Amazon from a third party seller that's no longer on the platform so I'd rather not risk installing it from an ISO and my key no longer works.

Well, about an hour after posting that, I did a manual check in the update thing in Windows and it was there.
