  1. I could see if you were hitting 6.3-6.4GHz ES OC that might be a possibility, but IMO not worth it. Your performance/benchmark results will not see enough of a substantial difference to justify the buy. These processors are nearly maxed out from the factory. If If you have cash to throw down go with something unique (at least that's what I would do lol)

I have a pretty good 13900K @ 5.9 @ 1.35V so im having a hard time deciding if its worth it to purchase this?!  You think 6.1 all core @ 1.35v might be doable?

  2. Simply cannot have a laptop without the touchpoint option. Yes, it's slightly dated in terms of hardware, but still sufficient for my needs, and this Xeon is nearly identical in performance to Intel's flagship, the 4C/8T 6920HQ

Seriously considering one of these as well since the 6920hq has a partially unlocked multiplier. Plus, this laptop also meets my criterium requirements due to TrackPoint and M2000M GPU. Can be had for ~$300 for a decent machine... (dell precision 7510)

Nice! Out of interest, why is it your favourite?

At the time, I had been eagerly awaiting AMDs newest GPU release (for some reason I'm just not and never have been an Nvidia fan), so when the "RX 5700 XT" was finally revealed, I guess it just left an indelible impression on me. Basically, as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. So 2.5 years later I still keep it for nostalgic reasons. I can also still play most new games  above 110FPS with ultra or high selected. So by no means am I missing out, it's a great gaming experience.

I like running cases that not everyone and their sister has. I prefer thick aluminum vs stamped steel. I enjoy non standard layouts. When I help friends build PCs we go with cheaper cases because to them it's just the box that holds the parts.

same here. Why not stand out from the crowd, you know

Yup.  I'm curious to know what he had to say about modern cases to be honest.  If other people don't like it, screw em.  Isn't that the point of the thread titled, "Modern computer cases are going to hell"? 🙂

    LOL lighten up there buddy.

I hope you take it more as comic relief going forwards, because that was my primary intent when posting. I mean for Christ's sake I posted a comparison between a trapezoidal shaped PC and a rug doctor lol. How serious do you think I really am?

I can't speak about MODERN Intel, but my experience with Sandy, Ivy, and Haswell tells me that its easier than we're led to believe to degrade a chip.  HOWEVER......my chips have always tended to degrade on the IMC moreso than a core overclock.  My 2600k will still work at 4.5GHz, 1.50v (it was a REALLY bad chip) for example, but it refuses to run DDR3-1866 anymore.

Heat is the killer of our parts, not voltage.  Yes, voltage CAN kill, but the majority of overclockers will never put a killer amount of voltage through their kit anyway.  If he's keeping it cool enough, he didn't hurt anything.  Especially for just 2 test overclocks, no the chip is fine and like new.  But if he's soooo sure, I'll buy his "dead" CPU for half off......  :lachen:

Obviously, there are other factors including current and temperature in addition to voltage that factor in, and generally speaking if two are under control he should be alright. And they were fine, so he's just paranoid or something...

Interested to know what makes you think Sandy, Ivy and haswell degrade easier than other chips?

Nice collection & trip down memory lane ! 😀

...I recently dug around in the companies' store room and came up with this old monster server case (w/ ABitIC7 and Zalman flower cooler inside). The server case itself is about 25 years old and the top cover is off as it contains a separate compartment for a 2nd PSU. We have four of these server cases that ran our software business back in the day and each weighs a ton but can support upwards of 400 pounds of weight on top w/o flexing as it is really thick metal gauge.

...too bad about the 'institutional beige-yellow' colour scheme of those years. After a much-needed cleaning, I might get it powder-coated for a future build project.  Also, I have to remember to be careful as in those days, the sharp edges of the interior would cut your hand instantly...

Interesting. Just today, I stumbled across an old 386 server while searching for a different tech topic altogether. Looks very similar to what you posted above...

Sad. I always thought you had a pretty unique rig and I liked that.

Hey thanks for the compliment! Not really much of a follower, so yeah, I did something a little different. in point of fact I put a lot of time effort and energy into making nearly 1000mm of radiator work in a case never designed for anything larger than a 120mm fan. lol

Then I can only pity those individuals at TPU!

    😂🤣🤣

But it was a tribute to my father because it was the last computer (using the same case) we both put together, years prior.

So I went hunting around the interwebs to find literally ONE coolermaster case remaining in stock in an effort to replicate the original build.

Guys this was supposed to be joke. Not sure what went wrong here but over at OCN people are finding it rather hilarious. Please don't think I'm targeting anyone here.

Actually, I take that back, might just go on a rampage after all.

Never really understood how anyone can be at odds with someone over a case, all comes down to personal preference of looks and setup. The same applies for cars etc, certainly nothing to get mad over 🙂

When I was on TPU they were always knocking my 9600KF rig due to my case selection.

  11. Can someone help me explain to this guy what the deal is here? He thinks because he overclocked ALL of THREE cores to 6.1GHz @ 1.45v that after a BSOD he had to pump more voltage to the CPU to get it to be stable, therefore in his mind, degradation is the only reasonable cause. I told him that his first OC was probably to blame, and then he said it happened before this as well... and I told him it was most likely BOTH of his OCs were wrong and unstable and he was just finding the limits of the CPU and was miss interpreting the facts. But for some reason he is'nt seeing this clearly. Any documentation or advice here would be appreciated so the guy isn't going around spreading miss-information about the so called "fragility" of Intel 13th gen CPUs.

For example, what is your take on this chart?

I can't hardly stand to browse r/watercooling anymore. Most of the builds are the same overdone crap. When people ask for advice 100 people come out of the woodwork to toss their 2 cents even if they have almost no experience. "buy EK mystic fog, it looks cool. Don't worry about the haters, I've had it in for 2 weeks and my system hasn't blown up yet".

    LMAO so true

  13. Yeah, and I will be the first to admit there are plenty of people that have been at odds with me over my case selections over the years. Bottom line, if you are happy with it, that's all that really matters at the end of the day. TBH the case industry, if you can call it that, has come a long way since just 10 years ago. For a long time is was basically function over form, and now, each individual / builder has literally thousands of selections on tap to choose from to make it their own.

Sadly this case is no longer available, otherwise I would be using it with my next build.

No, next build will be white. Very under-rated, but I actually prefer white to pretty much every other color, but please don't think I'm racist!

Memory I will be using will be TeamGroup, similar to this:

The cooling system will be upgraded, one 120mm radiator isn't going to cut it. Pretty cool it comes stock with liquid cooling though.

    EDIT: @J7SC_Orion

I'm not knocking your case design or systems either. You have quite the unique setup with two computers integrated in one design, I like that, its innovative, rare and aesthetically, very pleasing. and plus u know I like the blue light as well.

While what makes a case good is subjective, I feel that the majority of cases are good and sensible. I think the ones where you go "What were you thinking" are mostly the minority.

Don't get me wrong though, there are some whack cases out there.

And they are, this I agree with (that they are sensible in most cases, forgive the pun). Perhaps I am just stuck in the past, but I prefer the "classic" era of cases for some reason. that's why I am ranting, it's just my opinion and like you said, it's very subjective. So I don't hold anything against people who like them, just that I don't like them.

  17. I knew it was bad when RGB hit the market. then the 50lb glass paneling showed up. THEN andre the giant cases started appearing... ones that you need a forklift to move for you... But when they start resembling a rug doctor that's been decked out by what appears to be a 4 year old you have to wonder... have modern computer cases finally damned themselves to computer hell with no chance for redemption?
