I never once imagined I'd see the day when Nvidia would pull a Bulldozer moment with midrange GPUs and think they're winning...

It's so funny how suddenly after three years of insanely power hungry GPUs, NOW people talk about how efficiency matters.

Honestly I am pretty sure that with the enormous deluge that was the crypto crash this time last year, no one is all that eager to upgrade. I mean, think about it. What gamer guy that runs 1440p doesn't think that a 6800XT or 3080 isn't more than plenty for his/her needs? Or what about the crowd that runs 1080p like me? A 6700XT/3060 Ti that someone snagged for $375 on the used market is probably sitting pretty darn happy right now. Zero need to upgrade to the latest stuff. The 4080 might be a truly monumental upgrade over the 3080, and it is if I'm totally honest, but it's also in a totally different price tier now which is idiotic at best, and iirc even the initial stock hasn't sold out yet since launch. Should say enough right there.

I'm not so sure we really need to increase core count. If the rumored 30% IPC uplift actually happens with Zen 5, that alone will improve multicore performance by something to the tune of 50-60% at minimum. I am tempering my expectations with Zen 5, even though Zen 4 was already beyond my expectations across the board in every regard. Here's to hoping AMD can keep up the momentum.

There's a reason reviewers don't show 4k results in CPU reviews. It's because if you're testing CPUs, you need to create a bottleneck for that part. Running at 4k is largely pointless solely due to how it's 100% a GPU bottleneck, as showcased here. Yes, there is some variance, but the difference is notably larger at 1440p and 1080p, where you'd want to use these parts. I personally find the 7000X3D parts a little lackluster if only because the 5800X3D is so good. I can see why AMD didn't launch a 16-core X3D part with Ryzen 5000. It'd have completely invalidated Zen 4 across the board. xD

Bit of a late response, but the main way of getting a higher speed out of those fans typically lies with either software or a BIOS update. I would definitely start there.
