  1. Well, I've got it up to 4.0Ghz with minimal effort, although the fancy Intel enhanced Turbo thingy-ma-bob sets one of the cores to 4.0Ghz when needed anyway. I've been able to run through some 3DMark benchmarks at 4.4Ghz on the real old ones and 4.2Ghz on the old ones. I think I'll be keeping it at 4.0Ghz for normal use as I'm using air cooling.

  2. We have an AC unit in every site server room at my workplace. It is noticeable when an AC is off and we only have four 2U sized servers, half a dozen switches, and a couple of WiFi appliances and UPSU in each room. Imagine the heat in that mining setup if they didn't have those extractor fans on the walls... If I was that bloke I would defiantly be keeping a fire extinguisher nearby, especially if that is at his home. Sorry for the thread-necro, just sharing my thoughts on this kind of setup in case anyone here decides to implement one.

  3. Reading this isn't exactly encouraging me to swap from my Rampage V Extreme. It survived a secondary graphics card literally catching fire and the PCI-Express slot still works fine. They don't build them like they used to from the sounds of it.

That said, hopefully supply constraints due to Covid-19 are just making manufacturers resort to lower quality materials for the moment. I am finding it a little confusing trying to figure our why one fancy looking z690 or z790 is better than the another. The difference in price between things can be in the hundreds it seems, and I've even seen some motherboards for more than a grand. Again, maybe down to supply issues.

  4. I saw a video on Youtube showing how to avoid using a Microsoft account when installing Windows 11. The idea of having a cloud account for managing my private physical computer at home is not something I'll be doing, despite being used to having nearly all my games on Steam. Games are one thing, but my core system where I keep personal stuff. No sir!

  5. Has anyone here installed Windows 11 on a PC using an older CPU, like a Haswell-E or Broadwell-E i7?

I've checked the full 'compatibility' list at the below URL's and was wondering if anyone else has managed to get it to install on a computer with a CPU not on the list?

My i7 5820K is not on the list of 'compatible CPU's', hence the question...

My PC didn't initially have a TPM 2.0 either, which I think is built into newer CPU's, but I resolved that by buying a cheap TPM 2.0 module for my Rampage V Extreme.

This specification details the Intel processors that can be used with Windows 11, version 22H2 customer systems that include Windows products, including custom images.

  6. I literally saw the thread on OCN myself today.

Can't really nurture a community with an algorithm and the occasional bot posting an inane thread in the new members area.

I hadn't been on OCN for a good long while until looking again recently due to thinking of upgrading.

It feels hollow and I miss the area at the top that would show the users logged in at the time.
