  1. An old PSU failed, and took a lot of hardware with it. Don't buy cheap PSUs, OVP is a good thing! I got another card back online yesterday and hope to be back to full folding power by the time this starts tomorrow night. It just depends on parts arriving on time and the final troubleshooting to finalize what's actually broken.

The whole process has actually been pretty interesting with parts stacked up to be swapped and tested. Turns out a fried SSD can make a system *almost* but not quite POST by looking like a memory or CPU problem in BIOS. Tricksy!

  2. System Shock Remake. So faithful to the original that it could be considered a 1994 game, but still my favorite of 2023.

Most anticipated for 2024: also could be considered an older game, Horizon Forbidden West.

How long has this card been folding? Paste dries up fast on GPU's that fold constantly

I didn't think of that, an excellent point. The card has been folding at least 18 months now and I don't know how long temps have been rising. I'll tear it down and re-goo/re-pad it. Might have to zip tie some fans on if a fan is toast.

At least I got it swapped and managed to rebuild the kernel to get the drivers from 470 to 535 without dumping the CPU WU. So the farm is folding close to full capacity, maybe even better than with the throttled 3060 Ti. Looking at the nvidia-smi data though it appears the thermal limit is 93°C so there's some headroom above the target temp of 84°C, so the silicon is prolly good to fold again.

  4. Ugh, the 3060 Ti is cooking itself to death. This is a low-power triple-fan card that usually runs around 65°C. And I can't figure out why it's now pushing 85°C and throttling, even with a draconian power limit. It's clean, so maybe a fan is dead but being spun by air from the other fans. Gonna have to do surgery in the middle of the foldathon. Hopefully it won't result in dumping the CPU WU.

    REMINDER TO ALL PARTICIPANTS:

Let us know that you are playing for a prize (opted in) by typing "IN (Folding Name)"

We would also ask that you tell us your country since we just found out that the Cooler Master prizes will be U.S. only due to shipping. Don't worry, plenty of prizes will still be available for overseas winners.
