Classic games are only 20 percent of GOG's catalog, and the firm hasn't actually called itself "Good Old Games" in 12 years. And yet, today, GOG announces that it is making "a significant commitment of resources" toward a new GOG Preservation Program. It starts with 100 games for which GOG's own developers are working to create current and future compatibility, keeping them DRM-free and giving them ongoing tech support, along with granting them a "Good Old Game: Preserved by GOG" stamp.

For context, GoG has been working towards bringing classics games to modern platforms without mods, tweaks, or significant effort from the consumer.

I can personally vouch for SimCity 3000. One of their “GOG Stamped” games. It runs on Windows 10 without issue. Further, if you follow their support page, they even provide a link to download a modified .exe to run the game at modern, wide screen resolutions. No manual ini file tweaks or hex editors needed. Just a few clicks and you’re good to go.

For more info, you can read their press release here.

I'll have to check out the list, very cool work effort. That's kind of awesome about Sim City 3000, I have not seen that game in action in a long time, ha!

It still holds up very well! I dropped a screenshot in a separate thread from one of the premade scenarios. I don't have the time to commit to a full city but it's fun to mess around with.
