Oh man, that blows, something I will have to look forward to is continual downloads lol

Yeah, just the MS FS 2020 patches are already bigger than a full Windows 10 install...really, they should makes those optional, or at least give you a two week range when to install.

At least they added way more detail for the US, and also globally for things like freighters, per flight from Vancouver harbour to Victoria harbour:

Traditional freighter seems to have more detail...

725965441_VanCoalFreighterNewScreenshot(3401).thumb.jpg.750cb5897763afb45b86aa2ddfcd3e0d.jpg

...and some additions such as this LNG ships

645416417_VictoriaLNGScreenshot(3343).thumb.jpg.da5fbfe51cc3759dd83367e5991878ac.jpg

I lived in Victoria during university; as 'starving students', we replaced peanut butter during the weekday with a delicious food buffet (all you could eat) at the swanky 'Empress Hotel'...here a rather unsafe fly-by above the Empress ☠️

1310417280_VictoriaEmpressScreenshot(3383).thumb.jpg.a59255ab530a34710909246adef0151e.jpg

...and finally, landing in Victoria's inner harbour at sunset; Empress on the left, BC's parliament buildings on the right...

Once back in Vancouver, fluffy clouds flying (real weather)...why I put up with all those MS FS 2020 patches ! At 4K ultra-everything on my system (which includes an immersive 40 inch monitor), it all becomes worth it !! ?

Tx, that looks good; I'll add that to my collection of flight sims and games ! FYI, with my fav little amphibious plane, I rarely go airport to airport in MS FS 2020 but a little fast jet fighter action via Project Wngman will be a great addition

Any recommendations on a new or used flight stick on the lower end of the price spectrum? I'm interested in getting one but they are all around $100. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a step up from using a controller.

Doesn't seem to be available right now, but I got a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X less than a year ago iirc for $50 on Amazon to use with Elite Dangerous. Not sure if it will come back in stock, and if it does I dunno if the price will be inflated due to demand. Might be worth poking around for one on other stores or on the used market, but I know it's a really solid and widely recommended entry-level HOTAS. I quite enjoyed using it while I still played ED regularly, great bang for the buck.

...I'm using the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro USB (I also have a wireless one). They're cheap by comparison - usually US$ 35 - 40 - and work well with MS FS 2020 etc. I even use those for Need Fore Speed car stuff

Going for $90 these days. Seems like flight sim has definitely caused the prices to go up.

Memory Express still seems to have just a few in stock for C$39 in Canada at select stores, but not at their online store (sold out). Not sure what shipping / duties would be, but if you cannot find an alternative, you might try to order from one of their physical stores ... more

Does the Logitech joystick need to be configured with flight sim or will the game recognize it and set the controls automatically? This is basically my first joystick.

...I didn't have to configure it - it worked from the get-go with FS 2020. However, you probably can change some of the joy-stick function keys / map in the options menu if you so desire. I just left everything on default (once I figured out where the breaks where... ? )

FYI - main stick is up-down / left-right (ailerons etc). Then...

By the way I tried my joystick for the first time yesterday. It's very cool, much easier than the controller for precise control. Now I can fly low in canyons which is a lot of fun. The one thing that surprised me a little is the rudder control is still really touchy. Maybe that's how planes are in real life but using the rudder always causes pretty jerky movement for me. Maybe it's just the game? The rudder controls seem way too touchy on both an xbox controller or the joystick.

...I find rudder control is ok on my setup, sensitive, but not overly so. It also varies with the type of plane you fly of course...for example, the Pitts Special's rudder is hair trigger, unlike the rudder with the bigger jets. In addition, you can adjust sensitivity...more here

I finally figured out how to disable the auto-trim on the airbus. That thing is so weird to fly.

Also I've been trying to land it with the engines off and so far, no luck. It seems ok until the last few seconds when it's clear my decent is too fast and game over.

I have not even tried the Airbus yet, just the smaller jets - and the 747, of course. My usual default plane of choice though is the Icon A5 as I can land with it pretty much anywhere. As to auto-trim, if you DON'T start at an airport but start mid-air, auto-trim is not on automatically (trim can be changed manually) on my setup. Only when I start from / land at an airport runway does auto-trim come on.

Yeah, per earlier post that last big 14 GB (?) patch enabled VR. BTW, what VR set are you using ? I am thinking of getting one and am leaning towards the HP Reverb G2 but need to do further research - love to get feedback on your VR flights with Flightsimulator 2020

My flight sim is broken now. Didn't get a chance to try it out in VR. Official planes aren't listed to be used and my game crashes when I try to select an airport to take off using one of the mod planes I have installed. I verified game cache and that just made me redownload the entire game again, same problem so I uninstalled it because it was taking up 108GB.

I have the Valve Index by the way. It's the only VR I have experience with.

Wow ! That sucks ?   - Did you still have full functionality after you loaded the recent 14 GB patch (noting that there was a smaller 1 GB patch after that) but before you kicked in the new VR option ? Also, did you mean that now you only have access to the modded planes (can see them in options'), even if it crashes afterwards ?  This might not just required a complete uninstall, but perhaps also a registry purge.
