  1. https://www.pcgamer.com/games/discord-is-rolling-out-facial-scanning-and-id-checks-in-march-for-everyone-who-doesnt-want-to-be-locked-into-a-teen-appropriate-experience/ I don't even really know what to say here. Rumors all over the internet put this as not a good announcement. Personally, I have pulled ALL of my payments to Discord, including my Nitro and all server boosts I had put out for 2 different communities. This is a me decision because I feel like this is the start to something really bad from Discord. There's talks of alternatives popping up all over social media, but I guess we'll see where this heads from here. Rumor has it, all apps and sites are going to be required to do this in the future. I don't know about you guys, but I personally support the user's right to their personal data. I don't think facial scans, or ID requirements are the correct answer to the current ongoing issues.

  2. Sounds a lot like what I'm dealing with, lol. Michele and I got sick last month with the flu or something nasty, and it lasted about a week. On top of that Michele had major neck surgery. Then last week I got sick again with something nasty but different because this one had a sore throat and hacking cough that wouldn't let me sleep. That lasted about 5 or so days then went away just in time for my back to seize up (I blame these weather spikes). Finally getting over that, and now I have contractors working on some projects in the yard. The problem is these contractors turned out to be incompetent imbeciles. And now Michele is sick with the hacking cough thing I had last week. I just want to get some sleep.

  4. Also - please excuse my absentmindedness lately (IE: Me getting the postbit thing wrong). We've got illness going through the house right now, I've got a family emergency going on with elderly family members, and on top of all that...........I'm trying to rennovate a house I bought for cheap, and move.......PLUS we're going to be moving the website. My mind is VERY scattered right now.

  5. I use Amazon fire tablets. Kindle app is already on them and they show as a device to send to from my library on Amazon site. Also, I have FBReader installed on them and use it for epub format mostly loaded on a micro SD card. A really simple to use ebook converter I found that's easier than calibre is Hamster free e-book converter. Just drag a file into the open program, select the format to convert to, and it creates a file in the new format. With the fire connected to the comp via USB, I can even send the new file to the books folder on the SD card I use for the FBReader library. All hail Torrents!

  6. There's a reddit post where a discord associate says that not every account will be subject to ID/facial recognition, because they already have a ton of data and may determine that someone is over that age based on their data. I'd guess people who had accounts at the start of discord won't be harassed about it. I still think it's bad. Discord has already had a data breach, any anything that requires government issued ID's or people to turn on their web cam is going to end badly. I knew when discord was the subject of classified material leaks that it was going to face a lot of pressure. Identifying users is just the start. Remember, Discord app keeps tabs on other programs that are running. The web browser is better because of that. Using ublock to block the nitro advertisements is just a bonus. I think the proper response is to teach kids not to tell strangers on the internet who they are, and the dangers and potential red flags of grooming. That's what my generation did. If discord had an option to report and it turned that information over to law enforcement, that would be the best choice. I'd have no problems with my computer submitting logs if I report someone. That's a potential way around end to end encryption. Oh well. IRC, AIM, Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Skype, Dolby Axon, and Discord. Every one of these started as a great product. Most of them got worse over time. Discord peaked before Nitro was introduced, once they started putting ads in I knew it's days were numbered. Skype would have stood the test of time if they hadn't bloated it with advertisements. There will be others in the future. I just have to tell my friends what to migrate to. I think messaging, + voice + screen share are the gold standard. Static servers with various channels were just a bonus. The next mainstream app will probably have them all.

  8. I feel really stupid now. This wasn't the foldathon we usually hand out postbits for. This one would need a full on redesign since its not OUR 96 hour annual challenge. Sigh. If you guys want a postbit for this one, let me know. Otherwise, I'll work on the 96 hour one. Sorry for the confusion!

  9. My Kindles will never talk to the internet. I refuse to update them and lose the ability to sideload books.

  10. I noticed today that hertz9753 is about to pass my wife, Patsy. In case you do not know, Mike Hertz was a man that some of us had the priveledge of his kindness making an impact on our lives. It made me think about how the folding community will always be about folding@home and that a lot of us, and our families, were brought into this movement with us. I've been absent due to my hobbies taking a back seat to my direct family is the way to summarize it best. Many of us have moved on. But, to those who read this, no matter who you are, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have ever done for this community no matter what forum your ties are with. Shameless plug for Philistine fudge to see if anyone still talks to him because my wife misses her Peppermint Patsy Fudge. Clearly what @Bastiaan_NLdid for this event was beyond crazy, and you know what, we love this man for it! Don't be bashful, sir, that was NOT cheap! Incredible!!!
