  1. Very bizarre. All say they moved the drive to another slot that was still working. But, the whole "it's broken but it's fine" mindset has become pretty prevalent these days. No reports of drives being damaged. Now I need to decide between a TUF or an MSI. Midrange boards not having temp sensors these days is a PITA. My setup is simple, and doesn't really call for a Quadro, but looks like I'm not going to have a choice.
  2. Just when you think you know what MB you are going to pull the trigger on..... I was looking through customer reviews on the board, and there is a fairly large number reporting the same issue, even in 4 star reviews. The common complaint is M.2 slots just up and dying out of nowhere. There are reports of slots DOA out of the box, and some stating it happened a month or two in. The complaint seemed to be most prevalent on NewEgg. Out of curiosity, has anyone noticed reports of this in other boards? As in, is this some Z690 issue that has been, or is being addressed? The other curious thing is that people are stating this, yet keeping the boards and giving them four and five star reviews. What the......?
  3. Thanks. Looks like I'm still playing MVP 2005.
  4. Isn't OOTP a draft/manage game? Not an on field player control game? Or am I mistaken?
  5. Modded MVP Baseball 2005. How has no one bothered to make a better baseball game in 16 years?
  6. So.......likely pond runoff from their parking lot. I like the "don't mix it with XL5 as it will cause permanent damage to your components" quote.
  7. Corsair has been scum since they day they put the H100 on the market. It opened their eyes to "these kids will buy anything in a pretty package" marketing, and they ran with it full bore. That was the moment their quality on everything excepting their memory products nosedived. But....that was also when they stuck giant ornamental fake heat spreaders on all of their RAM in an attempt to push you into buying one of their CLCs. They and EK are masters of the "if you want this, you have to buy our XYZ too" marketing. It's funny that you used "suckers", because I have been saying that Corsair is a sucker play for 10+ years. Caused quite the stir when I said it in a published review. Owner of the site pulled the review same day when he got an email from them intimating that we wouldn't be seeing any more of their products - but they also did that every time I gave their products an honest review and comparison.
  8. Now I'm wondering if the newer Corsair coolant is X1. The change from X5 to X8 may have been the changeover to X1 v2. Or.....it may have been Corsair doing Corsair things, and X8 is the pond runoff from their office parking lot poured in a bottle.....
  9. My 770 Classified may have been my favorite card that I have owned (in context, of course). It was a beast for the money.
  10. It's a PSU, not an edible dairy product. It won't spoil from sitting in the closet for years. Theoretically, it should be in exactly the same condition as when you put it away. If it was fine then, and nothing went amiss with your storage (like spilling milk inside it), it should be fine now.
  11. Ugh, yes....totally gimped (they aren't really "gimped", they are the less expensive, less powerful oem piece that Corsair is charging full boat for from the unsuspecting) D5 for the price of a full power one. And you paint me to be a madman....but I rant with good reason! $160 for a gimped D5 and plastic tube?????? That's worth ranting over. And this is why you should be shopping at Performance-PCs, TitanRig, ModMyMods, etc. They are liquid cooling specialty stores, and carry components from liquid cooling specialty brands. While Corsair is trying to pretend to be one.....they aren't. You paid $115 for that same rad you could have gotten from PPCs for $85, as the Corsair is an HWL L-Series with a little sailboat sticker. Rather than paying $30 for a sailboat sticker, you could have bought a GTX for the same price you paid. Just say no to Corsair
  12. I could see avoiding XTR for the moment (and certainly would), but why in the world would anyone avoid X1, XT-1, Blitz, etc? I'm won't be avoiding any of these and will continue to recommend them since they are best in class.
  13. Welcome. Actually just left your Asus Z690 thread before clicking over here.
  14. Ugh....my bad. I had it in my mind that the Prime A came in a DDR4 version, but only the Strix A does. Have never wanted any part of the P. We will see where the prices shake out. I may just have to go with a TUF or MSI board plus a Quadro.
  15. Agreed. The light activity here is a bit of a downer. On the flip side, it's all quality activity. I've been reading for 20 minutes without coming across a bad post. Need to up the quantity but retain the quality.
  16. Two questions - First, how are you liking the board? The DDR4 version is at the top of my list, and looks like a nice price/feature proposition for the needs of the system I intend. It's actually overkill in some ways, but it seems that thermal sensors are now a rarity, and buying a cheaper board and needing to add a Quadro just doesn't make much sense. Second, I was under the impression that the Optimus blocks were suffering from inadequate mounting pressure on 1700?
  17. I don't think that is just speculation. I've actually been shopping for an upgrade the last couple of weeks. Between price gouging and availability, going to LGA 1700 is a chore right now. But, I'm not about to settle for a 5600X with the 12600K out there. I'm going to wait until things stabilize and 1700 blocks are actually available, but a lot of who buys this time of year is trying to satisfy the Veruca Salt "I want it now, daddy!!!!!!!!" constituent. They are going to wait until spring to get another 3fps on their games.
  18. First off, there is only so much variance you can do with a monoblock design. Second, ASRock has been ripping off Asus since the day Asus jettisoned them as a subsidiary. So, they are thinking that Asus copied their copy of Asus? LMAO
  19. My wife got the 4a on release to replace her 2. Once she got used to the gestures, she absolutely loves it. The Pixel camera really is fantastic. Yes, the hardware end is getting long in the tooth, but the software and processing side of it is still steps ahead of the competition in my eyes. And even if you are not in the Google ecosystem, the way the OS is done is just beautifully intuitive. That said, I want to point out that I'm in the US, and on Verizon, so I haven't been able to play with the One Plus/Redmi/Xiaomi/etc phones that seem to have so much more going for them than US offerings.
  20. Recently discovered Lianne La Havas. Big departure from my usual mix of Tom Waits/shoegaze/The Kills/Rev Horton Heat/etc. Really enjoying her stuff.
  21. I've had Pixels and Samsungs simultaneously the last few years, since I have a personal and company issued phone. While the Pixels don't spec out as well in terms of hardware, if you are in the Google ecosystem, there is nothing like it in terms of experience. It's just so incredibly well integrated and convenient. And, yeah, the camera lives up to the hype. As for as the hardware, it isn't that far off that it's even noticeable in real world usage, unless your real world usage is based on running Geekbenck 24/7. I couldn't imagine using anything else at this point. I'm probably going to grab a Pixel 5 on black Friday.
  22. Lots of familiar "faces" here now. Nice to see.
