So, I come home one day after having my computer in Sleep (literally the whole night while i was sleeping). I wake up and i wake my PC up, there is no display. I do a hard shutdown by holding the power button and power on again, still no display. I shutdown again, switch the PSU power switch, waited 30 sec, power on again, still no display.
At this point, my blood pressure is rising lol. I proceed to shut down, remove power plug, remove peripherals (USB, ethernet, displayport cable), remove cmos battery for 30sec.
Power back on, still no display, (did not bother to connect peripherals except displayport cable)
I then proceed to remove power and cmos, and also remove one stick of ram and place it in another slot (yes one of the correct ones). OC'd RAM in my PC has caused display out issues when i first got this 6800XT, mainly due to tightened timings I had. I really thought this could be the issue however, it really shouldn't because I have since just stayed on stock XMP settings since any RAM OC beyond that causes a display issue. And ever since I stayed on stock XMP i never had a display output issue from this 6800XT. Also the reasoning behind taking out one stick or switching slots is it will reset timings and frequency, at least from my observations with my setup. (I had stock XMP settings at the occurrence of this issue).
The RAM slot change or just one stick removed still did not do anything.
I then try my brothers MSI Gaming GTX 980 (I love that card, actually had 2 at some point in 2015 to try SLI). Inserterd the 980, STILL NO DISPLAY.
***Everything turns on when i power on. GPU lights and fan turn on. on both the 6800XT and 980. CPU fan and system fan turn on. can hear mechanical drives spooling.
I think it is a PSU issue. It has been awesome, Ive had a 3570k Oc'd with it, DDR3 2100 OC'd with it,2 GTX 980s, GTX 1070 all OC'd with it. I would have never thought the time would come but, i think about the years i've had it, does this happen? everything turns on but no display from 2 different GPUs means it is dying? The fact it happened after waking up from sleep, maybe a power surge happened that damaged the 12v rail?
YES ive tried HDMI on both the 980 and 6800XT. no dice. YES, the HDMI works on my PS4
***Edit: I've tried my 6800xt in my brothers Intel based PC, it works.
Also tried his Ram in my PC, nothing.
If anyone can PLEASE give any kind of input before I bite the bullet on another PSU, please I accept any advice and/or condolences lol
Thank you,
