Since you know your card works in your brothers pc, try putting it back in there, and hooking it up to YOUR monitor with YOUR DP cable and see if it works. If it does, then we've narrowed the issue down to somewhere on your board or your PSU. It will save guessing if a cable, monitor, card or some combo is bad if those 3 work elsewhere. If not, maybe try a different cable while the setup is like that to just make sure and then after putting his card back,if the monitor still had no image, try on his rig with his card. You say U know the monitor's good because the ps4 still works on it,but I've had hdmi ports go out and the vga still work on older flat screens. maybe the DP port's gone flakey?

Yea I was gonna try that eventually to at least narrow it down. I'll probably get to that tomorrow or Saturday. I appreciate the input

As I said, my Ryzen 3600 / B450 setup does the same EXACT thing under power surges / outages.  I have no explanation for why.  But I'll bet on it, your build will eventually come back to life after a while of being unhooked and unpowered, just as mine always does. 🙂  It scared the poop out of me the first time (and the second and third times) it did it. :lachen:

Aha damn yea I know what you mean. I bought my 6800xt 6 months ago, of course it was greed that got the best of me cus it was $1100 on ebay second hand. But it was the red devil aib so I had to take that offer for MS flight sim in VR at the time..

And this board never gave me any issues with my old gtx 1070 oc'd. But weird things would happen after a OC test that failed, different from z77 3570k setup I had prior.

The mystery of the RAM issue is in line with what you are saying though cus that in itself I still don't understand so yeah, it doesn't make sense but this is just how the hardware combo works now lol, I hope

Did you power cycle the monitor?  My Gsync Alienware monitor doesn't like AMD GPU's.  About 90% of the time when the monitor sleeps, I have to pull the power cord out of the back of the monitor, hold the power button for about 10 seconds, then plug the cord back in for the monitor to wake up.  I had to do it with my Radeon VII on my Ryzen 1 system and I still have to do it with my 6900XT on my Ryzen 3 system.  But it works fine if I put my 1070ti back in.

My monitor is a free sync compatible monitor. I have not tried pulling the power cord from the monitor. My card does work on my brothers PC/monitor.

When I plug in a HDMI or DP into my 6800xt, the monitor will flash a notification that a connection ahas been plugged in, but then will say it will turn off cus of no signal detection.

But yea I'll definitely try that while I go out and see what happens. Than you

Reading everything you've tried so far......

Try unhooking power from the wall.  Press and hold your power button for 30 seconds to completely drain the power from the mobo and PSU caps.  Then pull out your CMOS battery.  Let it sit for like 30 MINUTES, not seconds.  Then, try to power it back up with the CMOS battery removed.  If it works, pull power plug again, press and hold power again to drain caps, and put the battery back in, and try it again with the battery re-installed.  Sometimes it takes more than 30 seconds to reset CMOS, as odd as that sounds.

My own B450 / Ryzen 3600 rig does the same thing from time to time.  I don't have an explanation.  But there's a good chance if you let it just sit for a while without ANY power in it at all, it might pop back to life like mine always does.

You know, I heard about pushing the power button for awhile but didn't bother with that. I will definitely try your whole suggestion and reply back. In the end I really think it's a power firmware issue considering everything else turns on and my RAM oc has caused this issue at inception. I will report back maybe tomorrow cus I need a drink right now. I appreciate the that input. Thank you

Try a different cable.  I was having some maddening issues with my 6900XT with a huge and thick monoprice DP cable.  I thought bigger gauge, the better, as is usually the case with cables.  Never had a problem with the monoprice cables on my 5700XT, at least that I knew of anyway.  Swapped it out for the included DP cable that came with my monitor, and the problem has been resolved.

Yea see what you saying, but like I said I used an HDMI cable with my 6800,xt, that works with my PS4, and still nothing.

I thought dp cable at first too but if HDMI isn't working either then it can't be that

  6. Hellow fellow Enthusiats.

    Specs:

    Ryzen 3600 - 1.3v, 4100 Mhz slight OC

    Powercolor Red Devil 6800XT

    16GB (2x8GB) Gskill 3200 Mhz

    B350 MSI Tomahawk Max

    EVGA 750w Supernova G2 Gold 80+

    2 Hard drives, 3 SSDs

    MSI monitor 144hz 1440p 32"

So, I come home one day after having my computer in Sleep (literally the whole night while i was sleeping). I wake up and i wake my PC up, there is no display. I do a hard shutdown by holding the power button and power on again, still no display. I shutdown again, switch the PSU power switch, waited 30 sec, power on again, still no display.

At this point, my blood pressure is rising lol. I proceed to shut down, remove power plug, remove peripherals (USB, ethernet, displayport cable), remove cmos battery for 30sec.

Power back on, still no display, (did not bother to connect peripherals except displayport cable)

I then proceed to remove power and cmos, and also remove one stick of ram and place it in another slot (yes one of the correct ones). OC'd RAM in my PC has caused display out issues when i first got this 6800XT, mainly due to tightened timings I had. I really thought this could be the issue however, it really shouldn't because I have since just stayed on stock XMP settings since any RAM OC beyond that causes a display issue. And ever since I stayed on stock XMP i never had a display output issue from this 6800XT. Also the reasoning behind taking out one stick or switching slots is it will reset timings and frequency, at least from my observations with my setup. (I had stock XMP settings at the occurrence of this issue).

The RAM slot change or just one stick removed still did not do anything.

I then try my brothers MSI Gaming GTX 980 (I love that card, actually had 2 at some point in 2015 to try SLI). Inserterd the 980, STILL NO DISPLAY.

***Everything turns on when i power on. GPU lights and fan turn on. on both the 6800XT and 980. CPU fan and system fan turn on. can hear mechanical drives spooling.

I think it is a PSU issue. It has been awesome, Ive had a 3570k Oc'd with it, DDR3 2100 OC'd with it,2 GTX 980s, GTX  1070 all OC'd with it. I would have never thought the time would come but, i think about the years i've had it, does this happen? everything turns on but no display from 2 different GPUs means it is dying? The fact it happened after waking up from sleep, maybe a power surge happened that damaged the 12v rail?

YES ive tried HDMI on both the 980 and 6800XT. no dice. YES, the HDMI works on my PS4

***Edit: I've tried my 6800xt in my brothers Intel based PC, it works.

Also tried his Ram in my PC, nothing.

If anyone can PLEASE give any kind of input before I bite the bullet on another PSU, please I accept any advice and/or condolences lol

    Thank you,

Looks like you we're right about that, but probably not for all of the same reasons you would have guessed at the time.

Lol, well thanks for quoting me in this. September is seasonally a bad month for stocks but damn who would've known about the Evergrande thing.  Also got the Fed meeting on Tuesday.

Was hard to look at my portfolio today but I spent the day selling put credit spreads that expire this week to offset some of the loss.

Hopefully that works out for me 😬

EToro is just for crypto right?

With something like VGT the risk is basically pretty low. I think a stock like thet would only go down significantly if the entire economy tanked, which is always a risk, though as I understand it that's not going to happen anytime soon because the federal reserve is locked into a codependent relationship with the stock market now where the fed basically adjusts constantly to keep stocks happy.

I agree, if you're just looking for a fund to invest in and not individual stock picking, you really can't go wrong with an ETF. Even QQQ wouldn't be bad for low risk and decent anuualized returns. Yeah it's growth, but even if the Fed starts tapering in November I really cant see a growth/tech ETF correcting more than 15% in the worst case scenario. Just look how much the VIX came down in the past 12 months. I do feel like the market as a whole may have a correction sometime this month, but even then I can't see that  being more than 5%.

  9. Just wanted to chime in one more time about the Powercolor Red Devil 6800XT I purchased. So the issue with display not being detected and random crashes actually continued further to the point where I could never get the display detected. I switched back to the 1070 and same thing - no display.

So at this point I'm frustrated and feeling defeated. And of course I tried clearing cmos and trying the other pcie slot.  At least i knew by this point that it could not be the 6800xt since the 1070 is not even outputting a display now.

Until I looked online and tried removing a stick of ram, i was finally able to get into bios and windows. My ram stick wasnt faulty though. I reset all my CPU and RAM overclocks, stuck the other stick back in, reinstalled the 6800XT, and everything was flawless after that. Seems it was the overclocks in my system that was causing problems with the card not displaying and crashing.

but my god this card is a 😈 alright lol.

  10. Alright so I did get the card earlier than expected but I needed a few days to play around with it. The card is very nice. Stays pretty cool and fan noise isn't a problem.

I did however experience some problems upon installation like crashing and display not being detected. but its seems fine now and i have almost no issues now. very strange though.

Performance is awesome and is definitely a noticeable upgrade from my 1070. I ran Timespy with +15% power and 2400 - 2500 Mhz.

    Graphics score: 18,368

I really didnt want to buy anything like this in the current market but for $1,400 used off ebay it looked like a steal compared to the other nvidia cards right now. Plus I made some money on the stock market soooo why not? lol
