Can the year 2024 be placed in the thread title perhaps?  There's two April threads on the same page, and maybe when doing forum searches it makes it easier to sort older threads.  If this is too OCD, then ignore me and no worries.

I updated the title to include the year.  The post is now pinned as well.

    All our coffee is ground

I didn't know this thread contained a horror story within!

If you ever want to improve the flavor of your coffee, freshly ground is the first step I'd take.  You don't need to get an expensive grinder either.  A handheld blade grinder for ~$20 would be a huge improvement.

I usually opt for the costco stuff roasted by starbucks as it's fairly strong with a nice flavor.

Is the Kirkland brand roasted by starbucks?  Historically, I've used Starbucks French or Espresso roasts for a nice dark coffee.  Switched to Kirkland French Roast from Costco a while back and like it much more...and I brew it quite strong.

But remember, always look at how many units someone folded and not only at the points. I can't compare with some of the OG's who had hardware online for 15 years.
The current generation of hardware is just silly, 30mil points on a single GPU was what took us weeks back in '10..

IIRC, back in '11 the top 10 producers were in the 2-3mil range.  Back when BigAdv on multiprocessor servers was king.

If we go back even farther, in 2006 I was averaging about 540 points per WU and that WU took more than a day to complete!

By the way, what inspired you joining the foldathon? I've been doing them since January 2023 and never seen you in one. It's great that you're joining the cause and with a lot of punch. 💯

When I started folding for EHW about 3 years ago, @Bastiaan_NL was in first place and untouchable.  No one could come close to his PPD.  Once the electric prices significantly increased where he is, he slowed down and eventually stopped folding.  It took a while for me to catch him.

Why's he folding in this foldathon?  I pestered him and somehow convinced him that 2 days of folding wouldn't break the bank 🙂

  6. We had an extra EHW t-shirt prize become available.  Everyone that participated in the foldathon has already won a prize.  However, there were a few people that won a forum premium membership that were not able to use their prize due to already having a membership.

I have drawn amongst those participants to choose a new winner for the EHW t-shirt.... @Fluxmaven congratulations!  You are the winner of an EHW t-shirt.  Please send Damric your preferred t-shirt size/style and shipping info.

Thanks again to everyone for participating!

Hey, can someone tell me when this ends in CST?

For me it started 6am Tuesday, does that mean it ends 6am Tuesday next week or is that wrong?

Sorry, the countdown to event end didn't help much for me (who is terrible with numbers and math)

It should be Wednesday, 1/31 at 6am for you.  If you check the stats site, it should give you the end time in your local time zone.

Do I need to setup anything other than making sure I am representing Team 239902?

That is one of the most important things!  I just started up some systems and realized I was folding for the wrong team (was still configured for a folding event for another team).

In addition to the team, make sure you have a passkey configured.  That enables quick return bonus points and is where most of the points come from.

Yeah back in 2012 people were running -bigadv on 2600k at 5GHz and just barely completing them in time, but they were doing a few hundred thousand points daily if I recall, and millions a month. It was by far the best way to make a ton of points.

This was before GPU folding was lucrative at all for points - I remember folding on an HD 6870 and doing 8000 ppd, for an entire year 24/7, and I got a badge for it on OCN.

[H] had a "4p Mafia" back then churning out points.  Quad g34 opteron systems (48 cores total initially). I believe each of these beasts would get 400-600k PPD in 2011-12.  Someone (tear) on the forums even modded the bios for several supermicro boards to allow for some overclocking.
