Too many instances of me calling someone stupid or a moron. Nothing that bad really, it just adds up when you keep on doing it lol

Lol it's hard when a lot of people really are stupid. Just can't point it out because it's not ok to hurt their feelings.

They tried to talk me into getting a $1200 3080 12GB while I was in Micro Center yesterday because it was marked down from $1300. I told the guy I was just looking. The AMD shelf was rather full, but the prices were still dumb. They are coming down. The 3070 Ti's they have are now sub $1k. I asked the guy what the ratio of AMD to Nvidia cards sold was right now and he went on to say Nvidia basically still has the mindshare and the marketing. i.e. They sell way more Nvidia cards.

Lately I've made a point to dress like a bum whenever I go into Microcenter. Everyone ignores me while I browse around, it's great. If I'm there to actually buy something that requires them to pull it out of the case, I just flag someone down.

I would wager almost everyone here also has a OCN login. Well except for ShawnB :sad_cry:

What happened to ShawnB? I know he was on OCN at one point.

Or maybe I don't want to know lol. depends on how bad it was 😅

  4. It's always the second you pull the trigger on a deal a better deal shows up lol.

I'm happy with my 3090 but I was tempted to grab one of those 6900xt's to compare.

Every time I've been to Microcenter recently they have had plenty of AMD cards in stock but they prices were astronomical.

  5. At least they aren't using the Corsair pump/res. I die a little inside every time I see an XD5 in an otherwise nice build. I helped a friend of a friend do a "no expense spared" rig in a R̵e̵d̵b̵u̵l̵l̵ ̵r̵e̵f̵r̵i̵g̵e̵r̵a̵t̵o̵r̵ Thermalfake Tower 900 with dual XD5s. they are so cheap feeling. The whole thing is plastic.

I do own a lot of older EK stuff and used to think they were pretty good until I started buying Aquacomputer, Heatkiller, and Optimus gear.

  6. The cable system works really well. Everything is laid out close to where it needs to go so throwing a system together is a breeze. It also has a fan hub built in which I didn't use but could be handy.

The case itself isn't the most attractive case, but it's built really well.

  7. So I picked up the Seasonic Syncro q704 and 750w PSU on sale just because it was a neat concept and a great deal. A nice case, 4 all black gentle typhoons, and a quality Seasonic PSU for under $150! Didn't have a use case in mind but I build a lot of PCs so I knew it would come in handy.

My buddy has a pretty unique setup where he has a PC with 5 monitors and he just RDPs into his other rendering stations to spread his workload across multiple PCs. This is one of the headless workstations. I recently helped him get the 3070 and couldn't stand to see him running it on an old Corsair CX PSU in a beat up Obsidian 750D that's probably had 4 different builds in it. So I decided to steal the PC and swap it into this case. It only took about an hour to swap everything over and required almost no cable management for a clean build. He's swapping to a standing desk and his PCs are going on shelves on the wall behind it, so I'll try and add some nice pics when I help him mount the shelves and set everything up.

well... for better or worse I just paid for a 6900 xt... I found a new reference edition for only 40% over MSRP and my 2:30AM tired butt bid on it... no one else did... not sure if I messed up or not, but I really shouldn't be on ebay that early in the morning... At least I can still sell my 5700 XT for way over what I paid for it lol... will make up some of the cost... FYI, it was paid for with tax return money, turns out I filed my dependents wrong with my employer and too much money was being taken out... fixed that now

Haha I've been there... I'd buy a lot less stuff if ebay was unavailable from 10pm to 8am.

As for the taxes, it's better that than the alternative. When I got divorced I forgot to update my employer so I didn't have enough being taken out. Ended up owing a few grand at tax time.

Edit- I thought I was on the most recent page of the thread but just realized I replied to a comment from a couple weeks ago. Hopefully you have your card and it's treating you well 🙂

  9. I folded a little bit around a decade ago because I thought it sounded cool and wanted to stress test one of my PCs.

The last couple years I got back onto OCN and started participating in the foldathons just in time for folding to pretty much dry up over there.

So I finally made an account here and have been folding a bit. Not sure if I want to commit to joining a team yet.

I think there might be some confusion here. I have the Next flow meter, not pump. Just making sure we are on the same page. I hear you on the pew pew pew though. 8 Years Army.

I was just saying I turned my D5 Next off to try and drop my flowrate enough to make the clicking from the flow meter audible. I don't have the Next flow meter, I have the older Aquacomputer High Flow running off an Aquaero. Being that it's also a physical wheel inside turning just like the newer Next flow meter, they both can produce the same clicking sound.

  11. I might not have the most sensitive hearing (too many years of shooting guns and other yee haw stuff🤠) but I also can't stand loud PCs. Which is the main reason I do liquid cooling. I like to keep the internal fans under 800RPM. The D5 Next is on a curve but it's usually under 50%. My external rad/pump setup runs a bit faster since it's on the floor around the corner of my desk.

I tried to get another point of reference, but couldn't pick it up even with the D5 Next off and the fans at 360RPM. I usually only notice it for a couple seconds when I first fire up the PC and the flow starts picking up. To drop the flow further I'd have to crawl around on the floor to turn down the vario knob on my external D5.

  12. Really splitting hairs here. I have my PC on the desk 2ft from my face and don't notice it at all. If I slow my flow WAAYYY down the clicking is a bit more audible, but you really have to be looking for it.

  13. I have a D5 Next but I don't use the internal flow meter. To calibrate it you literally have to block flow in your loop (kink hose or install a valve). You DON'T have to do this for their normal flow meters

I still use the older Aquacomputer high flow sensor connected to an Aquaero. Even the original 3 pin version like this is an accurate meter. Personally, I'd get on that ModMyMods preorder before I would consider another option.

Welcome to my review of the Aqua Computer's Flow Meter. While I have typically relied on my King Instruments analog flow meters for most of my test purposes, trying to fit a 14" tall flow meter into your case isn't...

  14. Even though I have a huge backlog of single player games, I usually just hop on Genshin Impact for a few minutes every day.

On the weekends I try and get together with a group of friends. Typically CoD MW or Halo Infinite since those are crossplay and a lot of my friends from back home just have consoles.

One of my good friends asked me to join their Destiny 2 team this past weekend. I'm about 9 hours in and have a ton of catching up to do before I'll be very helpful to them lol.

  15. One of my tricks for getting the last pesky bits of fluid to drain out is to blow it out. I let it drain out as much as I can by just opening the drain valve and tilting the case around. Then I hook a short piece of soft tube up to a spare port somewhere in the loop, stick the tip of my blower into the tube and pressurize the loop. Any excess fluid makes its way to the drain fitting regardless of where it's located.

Yeah Corsair won't get much love from me these days. But I just saw it as a good alternative if everything else was out of stock since it was confirmed formulation of Mayhems X1 by Mick himself. But now that they rebranded it, who knows. I'm not touching it.

As for distilled water, I just feel it's easier to get a bottle of quality clear coolant and be done with it knowing it has everything you need in it at the right ratios. I also have my rig in a pretty sunny room and I've noticed the X1 doesn't evaporate away nearly as fast as the distilled did. Not that it matters much for yearly maintenance, but was still something I noticed.

The problem is the bait and switch tactics. They partner up with manufactures to build quality products to gain trust and following. Then change to cheaper crap and people still buy it thinking it's good.

I used to be much more frugal and either used distilled with silver or mixed my own coolant from concentrate. Now I typically just buy premixed X1. Also IDK about your area, but I've had trouble finding distilled the last couple months. Needed some to flush out components and leak test a new build and had to go to 4 different stores to find any in stock.
