  1. My DT 770 Pros broke on the right so I bought some DT 1770 Pros. I'm using a Pioneer A-300R Precision with it on my desktop, I bought a FiiO K3 that I'm going to use as a DAC because I like to imagine it's better than the built in DAC in my motherboard. If it's not better I can just send it back and carry on doing what I'm doing now.

What broke on them the cable? it's pretty easy to replace it.

  2. Actually one recommendation I would make is to freeze the title bar, when you scroll down the sheet it would be good for that to follow with you so you can tell what column conforms to what, I just found that out now when doing a little more browsing.

In the published version, it doesn't seem to be frozen, but it's frozen in Gsheets

  3. I think the new system is better, will have to see what others think. Thanks for taking the time to improve it bud.

By the way how did you collect all this data ?

Most of the data can be found in manufacturer spec sheets and reviews+there are other people that make such spec sheets, mine is different from other existing ones with that that it makes recommendations and set's performance tiers, others usually simply throw them in simple categories don't actually analyze the data in a way that everybody can understand it.

  4.

Just wanted to follow up with the thread...

    I got my 2nd kit of F4-3600C15D-16GTZ

I'd like to share what I did for Testing Purposes:

    1) I pulled my original set of memory and replaced it with the new set. Same timings - 3733 Cas 14. Passed 60+ minutes with MemBench no issue.

    2) I threw all 4 sticks in there and re-loaded Memory Defaults (2133, no idea what CAS or Voltage, but fully stock) Passed 60+ minutes with no issues.

Here's the fun part, I started tweaking now...

    3) I ran a DRAM Calc for 4 sticks at 3600. Plugged everything into the BIOS. Computer booted, but got errors in less than 10 seconds in Membench.

Spent a couple of hours trying to adjust Timings, Voltages, you name it. Nothing worked. I then did some Googling and apparently there's NO way on my motherboard you can run four sticks at 3600+ with Gear Down mode disabled (daisiy chain topology). Unfortunately the calculator had it Disabled. I enabled it and it was good. Not satisfied at this point due to knowing there's a bit more potential.

    4) I switched the DRAM Calc to 4 sticks at 3733. It now has Gear Down mode enabled with nice tight timings. Plugged everything in, and went to work.

In the end, Passed for 240 minutes with 4 sticks at 3733 Cas 14 @ 1.48v. Heat isn't an issue luckily because I have a nice G.skill RAM cooler. Even after the 4 hours, Max memory temp is 35c. I probably don't need the cooler (Would have probably been around 45c) but it doesn't hurt to have!

God no, don't use the calculator, it's bad. The calculator doesn't calculate anything it's simply a bunch of stolen profiles...

I recommend spending a day or two on tweaking, 1)put timings ridiculously high like 20-20-20-20-42-64 and find the highest frequency that works, with this setup I'd probably stop at 3800 and then tweak the timings and test stability, change 1-2 timings between runs that way you will know what works and what doesn't, I should add a reminder that there are formulas for many timings and you should visit DDR4 OCing guide from integral, I find that it's the most complete and reliable guide and comes from somebody who actually knows what's what: https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/master/DDR4%20OC%20Guide.md

  5.

The way in which you tried to embed it was not quite correct. I have embedded it for you with the method used on the site. However, it seems the document is not yet published. You can see how to embed sheets and how to publish the page by checking out our site guide, look in the "Available BBCODES section" : https://extremehw.net/forum/main-for...guide-features

    Cheers

You're right document was shared and not published, I tried to embed the documents unique ID, but for me firefox is still blocking it, no idea why

  6.

Thanks for that, I think I'm between the following two options:

    1) SSD 970 EVO

    2) XPG SX8200 Pro PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Solid State Drive

Both don't come with heat sinks, unless I go for the GAMMIX version of the ADATA drive, but that heatsink doesn't look all that useful.

Any recommendations on 3rd party M.2 Heatsinks?

both options are great, I own the SX8200 PRO 1TB, runs cool and is quite fast.

Generally most heatsinks that come with SSDs are enough, but if you're searching for 3rd party look at copper heatsinks with large surface area

  7. Welp, this is what I have:

ASUS Xonar DGX sound card for my PC

Headphones Beyerdynamics DT770 PRO 32 Ohm as my daily drive on PC

    IEMs QKZ DM200

Headphones in the combination with my sound card work very nicely and they sound pretty well.

IEMs they were 45eur IEMs on ali that was sold for 5eur because the company changed the name(to KZ) and wanted to get rid of old stock, for the 5eur I paid for them, they sound really well, I'd even compare them to some of the best under 100eur like the Sony MH775, the only issue I have with them is the mic, it's incorrectly attached and puts because of that you can't use them while in call as the other party will hear themselves...

I also have the 1more triple drivers that sound a bit better, but my main issue with them is cable quality which I had to solder myself after it broke off and well if I will decide to change the cable completely they will become my daily drivers, but it's pretty hard to do it on them.

  8. I know memory manufacturers don't advise to do this, but what's the general take on adding an additional memory kit of exact same kind to a system? I have two 8 gig sticks (16GB worth of RAM) but want to add another two 8 Gig sticks.

My thought process would be to buy the memory, take the original memory out, put new memory in, and test it for errors and stability. Then I would add the other two (all 4 dimms in at this point) and re-adjust clocks, timings, and voltages.

    Is this a bad idea?

I'd just hate to eat the cost of the two 8 gig sticks I currently have (good rated b-die memory) and go either go two 16GB kit or four 8GB kit.

I bought an ADATA XPG Z1 16GBx1 and a while later bought another one of those with the same spec, what I ended up is with MFR and B die in my PC that doesn't clock past 2933CL14 with my first-gen Ryzen 1600.

If you're willing to take the gamble you should have no issues with it, otherwise, trade-in your current RAM and buy a new kit.

    • Thanks 1
  9. Thanks for putting this spreadsheet together, filtering it is a little cumbersome, so I'm hoping that the ExtremeHW can help me out here.

I'm looking for some new M.2 PCIe SSD's to use as Cache Drives on my UnRaid Server running on an Asus Prime X570-Pro with a Ryzen 3600x. I'm currently using two (2) Intel P660 512 GB M.2 SSD's:

    - One in the upper motherboard M.2 socket with 4 lanes connected direct to CPU

    - One in a PCIe 16x riser board that provides another 4x lanes direct to CPU

I needed the riser board as the lower M.2 slot is connected to the X570 Chipset and this causes some sync errors between the two SSD's so the solution after working with Asus was to put in the riser board so both M.2 drives are direct to the CPU.

So I'm looking for some good 1 TB drives to upgrade my Cache storage as well as better writes as I recently upgraded the network to 10 Gig.

So, for ease of use you can switch to 4x PCIe sheet and sort by speed or NAND type, for caching drives you will always want to have DRAM and probably a heat-sink.

Also as you're using those 660p's their lifespan will be pretty short because of the QLC NAND used.

As a side note you can try out the gen 4 SSDs if you can get a PCIe riser board that supports it, otherwise I'd try going for some of the top tier SSDs from ADATA(best value) or Samsung(best warrantied lifespan), generally either Samsung or Micron TLC NAND with 4x interface and DRAM and preferably one of the top tier controllers.

  10. Yea, we know for a while that it's launching this year, I was invited to JEDECs DDR5 event, but couldn't afford to get there. Anyways AMD will be the first one to utilize it and atm looks like for consumers it will launch with AM5 platform late 2021 or early 2022, so there will be 1-2 generations of CPUs until it launches, for enterprise it will come this year from what I can gather, but I'm not sure what will be able to run it, maybe next gen of EPYC.

I have to say, I think we will see more of this, especially with Google and other Chromium based browsers locking down on certain sites as well as what has been stated as unfair treatment whereby Google have been caught undermining competing services so they do not function etc. This is part of the problem when a company gets a little too large !

Surprised the E.U. hasn't hit Google with a lawsuit yet. They hit microsoft with 1 for having Internet Explorer as the default browser and not offering a ver.of windows without it.Isn't Google doing the same type of thing?;)

You could argue that, not sure why it has not been bought up yet within the EU, but I would imagine that if they carry on the practice (and can be proven) there would be some form of hearing.

I kinda think microsoft got singled out, after all, haven't seen them chasing apple. "And Apple's iOS (mobile operating system) is an acknowledged disaster for Mozilla. Safari is the default and, while users can install other browsers, they come doubly hindered: they can never be set as the default, meaning any link clicked in other applications will open in Safari; and they must use Safari's rendering engine, a technical limitation that means that even the browsers that Firefox does have on the platform are technically just fancy wrappers for Apple's own browser, rather than full versions of the service that Mozilla has built over the decades."

There are no alternatives to safari on apple, everything that is not safari is reskin of it

EU is hitting google with lawsuit's every other year and EU hasn't woken up yet about what google is doing

  13. It's pretty sad that browsers like Vivaldi and yes,Brave, have to hide who they are when going to some web sites if they want to work right.Google for example doesn't play well with them when they say who they are.If they remove their names from the id strings, the browsers work fine.EVEN Microsoft Edge(another chromium based browser)has to remove it's id for some web sites to function properly. See the story here... https://www.zdnet.com/article/vivaldi-to-change-user-agent-string-to-chrome-due-to-unfair-blocking/?ftag=TRE-03-10aaa6b&bhid=26489920132515480536915462877029

Tbh vivaldi has been chromium based and I dislike the trend in the industry, so I keep supporting the alternatives to google, remember that we need concurrence for innovation.

  14. I mean they easily could had put 8k USD price tag on it, everybody who needs it would still buy it, it simply annihilates the competition.

If they were to copy the years of Intel's crazy margins, you are not wrong ! Intel really did show themselves up recently and I am just talking about their margins and ripping off consumers off but also resting firmly on their laurels.

Intel's top of the line CPU that is a lot weaker in dual socket configuration costs 20k USD, with a price of 8k USD they would still beat the heck out of Intel on value ;)
