Nice review! I think I might be getting this case possibly, once I can greenfield my whole server setup.
It looks like, if you're not running any long expansion cards (gpu, etc) then there would be room for a thicker rad and push/pull fans in the front? Although I suppose that's going to depend on motherboard size, since dual cpu systems have huge motherboards.

I look forward to it, some extra insight would be great. I am really happy with pfsense and works well for me. I would likely only entertain moving to something "Better" if some catastrophic happened. But if there was a time a move would make sense, it would be nice to be well informed on opnsense
Didn't get to this over the weekend, but still planning for getting to it soon. maybe the next couple of nights, hopefully.

It is still alive, just not posted in for a while. I still use pfsense, love it. I have zero experience with Opensense though.
I was a pfsense user for many years, and loved it. I ended up giving opnsense a try, and enjoy the gui much more.
I felt like some things were a little more intuitive as well.
I'll be getting my network back in shape this weekend, opsense is gonna live in a VM on a NUC 11 pro running esxi, so I'll have to post about that once it's up and running.

Nah it's like spraypaint. I used it on my fullsize GMMK as well. Just put down some newspaper, and in this case I used two bricks to elevate it, reason being if you directly have it on paper, the overspray will make it stick to the paper, and then when you go to peel off your top plate there will be a layer of it on the paper too and it might stick and pull some of the plastidip off what you are spraying.
It's fairly easy, it's basically an aerosolized rubber. As you spray coats, it will build up in a layer. I only did 3 coats on mine.
For the Keychron, you will need a bit driver set with a 2mm hex (I believe) as well as a small Phillips screwdriver to be able to open the thing and take the top plate off. Of course, keycaps and switches need to be removed first.
Why, do you have a board you want to spray?
oh nice!
I had considered it for a keyboard, and also for the outside of a case, just haven't decided if I'm going to go that route though.

Is this club still alive, and how does it feel about opnsense?

Are you considering an upgrade because you HAVE to or want to? I'll let the guys who own AMD CPU's weigh in. The newest AMD CPU I have is an Athlon 64 X2.
Wonderful CPU series that was. Heck even the single core ones (I had the 3200+) was pretty awesome.
OP, I'll echo the 5700x.
What CPU cooler do you have? That's something to consider, since you'll be dealing with a little more heat.

Check that
There's also this: Rated Speed:3500 – 6500 RPM±10% (MAX). Should make for a nice, high-pitched whine
For anyone that wants the server-level sound without the hassle, just grab this!

Might just wait for a budget wifi 7 router what do you think? That would be backwards compatible with 6 and 6E. No idea when they are coming out though.
I wouldn't bother waiting for WiFi 7. It'll be a while until you see end devices with it, and even then, unless you have a really wifi heavy environment, you probably won't see a benefit.
6E should be fine.
Essentially, the cost-to-benefit ratio is not great.

I've got a kinesis Freestyle Pro I need to unbox and start using, with MX silent reds.
I've also got two of these that need building
Had the parts for years, never got a soldering iron

Interesting. I wonder what they're targeting here, normally for stuff like 192GB you're talking workstation/server, and that should be ECC.
Maybe video/photo editing? or Game design?

It's more of a workaround.... Insert bootable windows USB, press shift + F10 at Windows Setup to open cmd prompt. Then create a backup of windows accessibility, copy cmd exe and rename it to windows accessibility. Boot into windows normally, click accessibility which now opens cmd prompt, then enable admin account. Note, enabling admin does not work from the bootable cmd prompt, only from the native windows cmd prompt. After removing a user's password the admin account should be disabled and accessibility restored. Unless they remove the ability to reach command prompt with shift +F10 I don't see that going away anytime soon.
I haven't tried it on windows 11, but I suspect it would work. Bitlocker or other drive encryption may complicate the task. I'm not sure how bitlocker works in regards to windows restoration attempts, since the media would have to be decrypted for windows to fix corrupted files. I've been avoiding bitlocker so I don't have experience with it.
I wasn't aware, thanks for sharing.
Why avoid bitlocker? I don't think it requires tpm at this time. unsure though. I'm more familiar with it on the business side of things.

The password is additionally encrypted using AES-256 encryption, so the password to boot cannot be viewed in RAM by anyone trying to boot an OS on my system.
I love Linux.
Yeah, I have seen that from GRUB2. I haven't moved to that (I daily *nix on my laptop. When I have one).
Linux FTW!

I'm going to catch the next one, as long as we move back into a house. Don't have space to power up the rack where I'm at right now.

Pretty much. I don't get any ads these days on Youtube, as well as a few other sites that were problematic (e.g., Yahoo, which I follow because I'm interested in how today's media attempts to pervert its readers' thoughts -- I'm also into social psychology and sociology 8^)
Interesting. ok, maybe I'll check out ABP then.

Not really, no reason. But the combo I'm using seems to be very effective against Youtube ads, at least far as Chrome on 64 bit Win 10 goes.
Word. Were YouTube ads blocked out of the box on that combo?

Good. I know I'm in the minority here, but TPM is not good for the industry.
I can understanding encrypting a drive and saving the key to a bios. I can understand using manufacture keys to prevent unsigned bios updates. What I can't fathom is why Microsoft has final say on what's "trusted" and should be able to run on a computer. If they are worried about booting outside OS systems that can compromise a system, they should lock down the boot loader and bios under a user password.
Windows 10 passwords can be bypassed with a simple windows 10 bootable USB, the same USB you may NEED to restore a corrupt system or reinstall the OS. A rubber ducky can grab a lot of information without even logging into a system. If microsoft was worried about security, they could do a lot more to fix their systems than try to control the industry. TPM was always a power grab by microsoft, once people realize it doesn't actually provide security, they might move on to something else.
Agree, except both of those items are generally outside the control of an operating system, in the sense of getting them configured so that the user can actually enter their own password. They're up to the user to configure. If there was an implementation of something akin to bitlocker, where admins can enable a password required to boot and the user can make their own, except apply it to the bios & bootloader, that'd be sweet.
Can W10 passwords still be removed that way? I thought that wasn't a thing anymore.
23 hours ago, schuck6566 said:Agree, but for a different reason, if there's an issue with a bios update or other bios/Hardware issue that causes you to have to clear the CMOS you loose the tpm key and when trying to turn tpm back on you loose any info that was previously encrypted. The Encrypted data IS available with tpm turned off, so what's the point? If someone can access "secure" data simply by turning off tpm in the bios, how secure is it really?
Is this where hardware security keys (the removeable ones) enter the chat? Or do those just apply to logging into the computer?
If one could configure a hardware key to be required for POST or bootloader access...

While I'm not a fan of our current state government ('nuff said), I did find the article rather interesting ( Source
The linked long pdf document (44 pages) mentioned in the quoted text above also is somewhat intriguing.
Lastly, I probably ought to mention that I run the following three anti-spam/anti-malware extensions in my browsers just for the s&g's. Doing so also kills Youtube ads, which helps speed up getting to the meat of a matter: Bitdefender, AdBlockPlus, and Malware bytes (of course, ). I do have to disable Malwarebytes on EHW and a few other sites though, because not doing so results in excessively long site loading times.
Any reason for AdBlockPlus over uBlock origin?
I'm on Bitdefender/uBlock Origin/pi-hole. Side note, never got YouTube adblocking to work. ever.

Yeah, something akin to GDPR would be a nice start imo. It's about time more people start caring about this stuff, but the people I talk to about it just.. well, don't.

This is how BingChat responded to your question
"Both AI and blockchain have many potential applications and benefits for various domains and industries, such as finance, healthcare, supply chain, etc. However, they also face some challenges and limitations, such as ethical issues, scalability problems, security risks, etc.
Some people may use the phrases “AI all the things” or “Blockchain all the things” to express their enthusiasm or optimism about these technologies and their future impact on society. However, these phrases may also be seen as exaggerations or oversimplifications of the complex realities and trade-offs involved in adopting and implementing these technologies."
I think it mostly just boils down to "AI" being harder better faster and stronger.
Just for fun, I asked BingChat to write a new daft punk song:
We are the robots We are the future We are the music We are the culture We have a vision We have a mission We have a passion We have a fusion Robot, future Music, culture Vision, mission Passion, fusion [Chorus] We are the robots (robot) We are the future (future) We are the music (music) We are the culture (culture) Robot robot robot robot robot robot robot robot Future future future future future future future future Music music music music music music music music Culture culture culture culture culture culture culture culture [Repeat chorus]
Hahaha that's great. It definitely does have it's benefits, but you just can't bolt it onto everything. Despite what ChatGPT wants us to believe

Sounds like I'll be staying on W10/11 and furthering my progress to moving to linux on the desktop, already full time linux on my laptop
</tinfoilhat>
I feel like AI is kind of like the new blockchain, or at least experiencing the same phenomena. Why do we have to "AI all the things"? Kind of like we "Blockchained all the things".

I tried every method, f2 fn f2 novo button and windows uefi settings after holding shift on reboot in recovery all no dice. It just flashes a black screen and then continues to windows.
I cannot even reinstall windows because rufus requires secure boot to be disabled and i reset my cmos battery hoping it would fix the issue, which set secure boot to enabled.
I think my only options for me are usb bios recovery but i need a usb flash drive which has a led indicator light to show when its reading on boot because the drive i tried a sandisk usb 3.2 gen 1 16gb wouldn't work.
Other option is replacing the whole motherboard which is dirt cheap, but ill be replacing it with the faster AMD A8-7410 apu with the discrete gpu AMD Radeon R5 M430 2gb motherboard for $49.99 or if i get an offer possibly less from ebay.
Unless u may advise how to use what i have, my 16gb sandisk flair i think its called and i think u simply format to fat32 and put nothing but the bios on there naming is 1qCrisis.bin and hold fn + r on boot and it should flash the bios, but for me all it does it blink the charge led continuously orange, never proceeding with the bios flash.
Thanks
At this point, we're past my knowledge of UEFI recovery unfortunately.
Did you try the pinhole method from the video above my comment?
It might just be worth it to spend the $50 for the replacement motherboard honestly.
