  1. Has anyone had a chance to play around with the CTR tool that 1usmus just released? It is an automated tool to CCX overclock or underclock. If you haven't yet, here is the the guide and download locations: CTR Guide: https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/clocktuner-for-ryzen-ctr-guide-download,1.html CTR Download: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/clocktuner-for-ryzen-download.html I have always wanted to try clocking per CCX but never got around to putting the time in. After spending a few hours experimenting with this CTR tool and my 3800X, I am pretty happy with the results! I have yet to stray from the suggested settings in the guide but plan to spend a bit more time experimenting with it. Preliminary results on my 3800X: CTR Overclock: CCX1-4300, CCX2-4350, 1275mv CTR Undervolt: CCX1-4150, CCX2-4175, 1181mv 3-8% decrease in single threaded performance 3-6% increase in multi threaded performance 4-25% decrease in power draw 4-19% decrease in CPU temperature If you're interested in a few graphs, I did record the results from my testing so far: https://youtu.be/lnVm7punqFg I am especially excited about the drop in power and thermals! I have never used a software to apply processor settings but this is very clean and non intrusive. That said, I am still leaning towards flashing a modded BIOS on my Crosshair VII to allow applying CCX clocks through BIOS. Would love to see your results!

Hardware Unboxed just released a good video on this topic: Cliff Notes: AMD's reasoning for not adding support to 3xx & 4xx chipsets: "...the flash memory chips that store the BIOS settings and support have capacity limitations. Given these limitations, and the unprecedented longevity of the AM4 socket, there will be a time and place where a transition to free up space is necessary - the AMD 500 series chipsets are that time." AMD statements that AM4 platform would be supported though 2020, implying support is socket dependent and not chipset dependent. X570 was not advertised as the only chipset that will support future CPUs. Past controversy with BIOS could be a factor (older boards needing to be flashed for new CPUs, launch issues w/ boost clock) Is Zen 3 the last CPU line for AM4? Possibly, why break compatibility on last cpu line? Many quality 400 series motherboards were sold with larger bios capacities as a selling point for future compatibility. If AMD had released x570 with future support as a key feature, many consumers would have spent the extra money for x570 or waited for b550. Think the consumer angst is justified, but nothing to lose sleep over.

  4. @tictoc I love seeing all that copper, those back plates are sick! Do you monitor coolant temperatures?
  5. @Bastiaan_NL Thank you! I'm not a fan (haha) of the brown either but it does look surprisingly good with copper. In my case, none of the fans are actually visible with the side panel on. Agree about the Fractal Design cases, they just look so clean! I built my daughters computer in one too.
  6. Here is my desktop in a Fractal Design Define S case. ASUS Crosshair VII Hero AMD 3800X Reference Vega 64 Team Group B-Die (TXKD416G4133HC18FDC01) Sacrificing some airflow for noise and dust mitigation but still performs great. Really impressed with the Noctua IPPC fans!
  7. Had very similar setups myself. Was amazed when I upgraded from a A64 3700 to an Opteron 165, TWO cpu cores and 50% overclocks! Only boards I had back then were DFI, they look funny by today's standards but were great. Thank you for the welcome!
  8. Hello Extreme HW! New member here, certainly excited to see a new enthusiast community. My journey in this hobby began with PC gaming in high school, it really picked up when I eventually stumbled upon and joined OCN ~2005. Spent so much time lurking that site, learned a ton doing so.
