Alder Lake Build - i5 12600k

Hi All,

After receiving a-lot of great advice the below is what I have built. I will post photos once I have put the new desk together.

In the end I decided to replace the old power supply and grabbed a new case so the cost went up a little. I am sure I could have made some better choices but prices are insane at the moment so I tried to focus on upgradeability so hopefully this lasts me a few years at least.

CPU: i5 12600k

Cooler: NH-D15s with a single fan

Memory: Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL16

Motherboard: MSI Z690-a PRO WiFi ( I have needed WiFi a few times in the past so thought it would be nice to have)

PSU: Corsair Rm750x

SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB

Case: Lian Li Meshcool 2

I haven't installed windows just yet, I have updated the bios and will hopefully do the rest tonight.

Some notes from this build: My last build was an i5 3570k so I am a bit rusty.

The case was a dream to build in, so much space and cable management was super easy, I can imagine it would be a-lot easier if the PSU cables were not so stiff and the braiding was tighter. I draped the cables over a warm heater for 5 min and that made them easier to bend into shape. One thing to note about this case is if you want to remove the HDD cage you need to do this before installing your PSU.

The NH-D15 is a monster, I have never seen one in real life so it surprised me. This is the only part of the build I am not 100% happy with, the mobo is so tidy with good cable management and the ssd hidden under a heat sink then BAM an enormous ugly cooler, should have gone water but a part of me wanted to try higher end air cooling.

I am running the stock fans at the moment but will change them soon and add a rear exhaust.

I will update this post as I finish off the build!

Will do, I will do some benchmarks at stock then see what type of OC I can get with this cooler. I don't have high hopes though unless I won the lottery.

That D15 maybe ugly but can take lot of power and it 100% reliable you never have to worry about it. ðŸ˜ƒ

Great Ram and Mobo choice. I love my Msi Z690a.
