How to make my android undiscoverable on Wifi as far as Youtube cast goes etc?

Recommended Posts

3 Options that I know from experience will accomplish your stated goal:

1. Remove/disable Google Services,
2. Use an Android ROM* that doesn't have integral Google Services.

2. Disable (turn off) Wi-Fi.

Any of those options, will end up w/ reduced functionality of an Android device.
-Even in a 'fully functional' AOSP ROM*, you will likely find certain 'expected features' may not work. (For Example, most Banking Apps and any other 'high security' high-fingerprinting apps.)

There may be ways to specifically block/disable that one aspect, but 'casting' is so intrinsically-linked with the Google Services, that either
A. the 'fix' won't 'stay fixed'
or
B. Other Google Services-dependent apps will break.
is likely.

*IMHO, the easiest option would be a ~$100-150 used or NewOldStock Google Pixel and installation of GrapheneOS.

GRAPHENEOS.ORG

Official releases of GrapheneOS, a security and privacy focused mobile OS with Android app compatibility.

From a network administration aspect, what I would do is set my device on simply another subnet mask, yet still connect to the internet through the internet sources default gateway.  I just cannot quite find an app that can change all that stuff via github or something like an advanced networking app for android apk?

Creative solution. If it works, it works.
I like it.

I've never seen an app to do that, but those changes can be made in most Android phone's factory ROM's 'settings' menu. It's under advanced settings for a given network, IIRC.

I suppose a 'plus' with a 'network config app' would be auto-downloading and auto-reconfiguring on a new/other device when logged into your account (or, when manually migrating the app)

Don't know if this is the kind of result you're looking for, but maybe a VPN? One of the free ones that don't track or sell? I use one cause I'm too lazy to put my I.D. into the browser for the state to make sure I'm old enough to see porn. ðŸ™„ That and it's none of their business what I look at. I only turn it on when going where they want to track me. Then it's back to normal connection the rest of the time.

You might be able to assign a static IP address to the device and block the port that youtube cast is using.  Wireshark will tell you what port it's running on.  However if there are other services running on that port it will cause problems...  Generally ports aren't a mix and match thing because that causes it's own problems.

The downside to this approach, you would have to control the router you are connecting to.  An alternative might be to install a firewall and use that.

This post might have some more specific options that are available on your device:

Answer (1 of 2): On your device, go into the main system settings and find the Google menu. Scroll down until you find Device Connections...
