AMD and OpenAI announce strategic partnership to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs

Consider that a nuclear power plant puts out an average of 1 gigawatt of power and OpenAi is contracting for 6gigs total with 1 gigawatt in 2026 alone. Where is this power going to come from when the U.S. already suffers from rolling brown outs in the summer with storms effecting the power system? Before demands like this can even begin to be considered, the whole grid needs to be upgraded and stabilized!

I know Quebec is selling power for very cheap to the US even cheaper than Local price sometime.

Do seem to be a big issue and getting worse with time. Kinda like mining when it started.

Wonder if electricity price will suddently become too expensive...

A lot of states are starting to look closer at the data centers that are trying for tax breaks to build because they're saying they'll offer all these jobs, but the people realized they were including the construction jobs in the new jobs created. So,few long term jobs, and even fewer with Ai replacing some of the regular staff that would have been hired.

Most companies have a more realistic Nuclear power goal.  

That's great as long as they get them built. One story I was reading was saying how a new Ai center being considered would be dependent on purchased power from the grid and additional fossil fuel generated power for several years until the nuclear vessel (for the reactor) could be purchased, assembled, and approved. Then you also have to find the towns that WANT a nuclear reactor in their back yard with no real benefit for them.
