Seconding Forza games. They're about as arcadey as I'm willing to go, and they're also quite controller-friendly. Only thing is they tend to be relatively expensive.
-
On that note I'd love to see how their new discrete GPU venture fares.
So would I actually. I hope it's successful enough that they end up making GPUs that will compete in the higher-end as well. It's kind of tiring and expensive to only really have nVidia at the top with AMD being a generation behind as far as performance goes in their high-end.

The Forza Motorsport series is probably a good start. It doesn't have the most realistic physics, but they're good enough and it's playable with a controller. You can also try out a demo (built on Forza Motorsport 6) with Forza 6: Apex on PC.

I've been considering iRacing more and more as time goes on, but historically I've just done mostly AC/ACC, though I haven't done much recently. I'll need to gauge how much time I'll have in the near future and more importantly figure out where/how to set up my wheel first.
The iRacing special events are cool though, I know the guy who got second in the top split of the Indy 500 this year. They're great even to just spectate.
I've actually made a thread for this now https://extremehw.net/forum/gaming/general-ab/943-sim-racing-discussion-thread

Rather than making 10+ threads for the individual racing sims, I've decided to create a thread for all of them, both PC and console. This thread is racing simulators including, but not limited to:
- Assetto Corsa series
- Automobilista series
- Dirt series
- Forza Motorsport series
- Gran Turismo series
- iRacing
- Live For Speed
- Project CARS series
- Race series
- Raceroom
- rFactor series
Personally, I play Assetto Corsa, Forza Motorsport 6 and 7 and iRacing. I used to play Race: WTCC, Race 07, Live For Speed and the entire Gran Turismo series except Sport. I am thinking of picking up a PS4 for Gran Turismo Sport though.
- Assetto Corsa series

Very interesting. This makes me wonder, how often does this happen? I can't recall a company coming out of the woodwork to try and compete with the big three, but I suppose that's because it either never happens or they never gain enough traction to make the news past the first article or two.
Big three? I know there's AMD and nVidia but as of right now I wouldn't really count Intel. They don't really make anything more powerful than GT 1030 and it's built into their CPUs.

Yiss ?

That's something that somehow never crossed my mind, but I like that idea, spoiler tags for the first week or maybe 10 days if necessary. We can play it by ear at first.
What have you been watching?
Just F1 and the "special" WEC races really. With most WEC/IMSA races, I prefer to take part in them digitally on iRacing. Since April my internet has been terrible, just dropping out at random points during the day with no warning and because of the way the iRacing system works, you get penalized for it when you do lose connection so I haven't really been racing in there since May. I've lost a lot of iRating because of my garbage internet connection. It does seem to be fix now though.
-
What's the rules on spoilers? Put things in spoiler tags until at least 1 week after the race? I almost never watch races live, I always watch them a day or two later.
-
Nice. I'd highly recommend that the first thing you do, is download and install the Transfagarasan Highway mod for Assetto Corsa, get the quickest car you can, select the "downhill" layout of the track and from the start line, just go perfectly straight off the cliff. When you've done that, physically stand up and "get out of the car". It's a lot of fun.

Hello everyone, I am here
Oh no ?
-
I'm getting a RX5700 in for review next week and should have a 5700XT shortly after that, I'm looking forward in getting them on the bench.
Reference or aftermarket? I want to see how well various aftermarket ones do as far as heat and noise go.
-
If you can't get it to align properly the first time, use a bigger hammer.
-
Oh yeah, you can't go wrong either way. Both are very good as long as maxing out games at 4K 60fps+ isn't your goal.

Really? I heard plenty of good things about the 5700xt. My only concern was the high power consumption for such a small die on 7nm. A scaled up Navi may be another vega 64 scenario power/heat wise which I want to avoid unless the arch gets tweaked. I do think I'd like just a little more performance than a 2070 or 5700xt have on the table though.
Nvidia of course has the high prices. I'd probably take the plunge on a 2080 for $499 new if that happens any time soon.
it's still a weird time for upgrades tbh. I'm back and forth.
Both 5700XT and 5700 run very hot. At least with the stock blower coolers. I don't actually know if the aftermarket coolers have solved this, but the stock cooler isn't good enough. They're reaching 110c which is very, very high considering older AMD cards with the stock cooler would rarely go above 85-90c. AMD do insist that it's safe for these GPUs to get up to that temperature, but still, I'm not sure how well they'd last in the long run. Then again, they could have just changed how they get the temperatures which result in higher readings than previous GPUs.

I wouldn't go for AMD at this point TBH. It doesn't seem like they can make good CPUs and GPUs at the same time. Sure, AMD is cheaper than the equivalent nVidia card but it does lack DXR. DXR isn't really essential, but it is nice to have.

Well I can see why they haven't released it yet. Rome wasn't built in a day upside ?

Just a thread for Valve Index owners.

Hello. I have RGB as well. Unfortunately, only my mouse and monitors are RGB. I don't have any of that fancy RGB RAM or fans.

Check out my Type R
Had to throw that out there before drews could say it.
Is that the new 2020 Civic Type R?
-
That's a big ol' snail.

I've noticed just about every tech forum has one of these. Seems there's an overlap with car enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts.
I don't have pictures of my cars at the moment, or a camera but I have a 1995 Lexus LS400 and a 2001 Volvo S80.

Well, the original is on sale on Steam at the moment, 75% off until the 2nd of Sept. The second game does look like it's going to be very similar as far as gameplay goes, just expanded massively.

During the Gamescom opening night livestream, game publisher Private Division released a new trailer revealing and announcing Kerbal Space Program 2, a sequel to the popular 2015 physics-based spaceship construction and spaceflight sim. Kerbal Space Program 2 will be released in the first quarter of 2020.
Newly announced features include "new planets to explore, new technologies to traverse the stars, and the ability to establish colonies, all rooted in real-world science," according to Private Division's press release. Additionally, the sequel will bring multiplayer to the franchise, and players will be able to build "without the constraints of planetary gravitation for the first time," which should allow for more elaborate constructions than were possible in the previous game.

I'm really looking forward to this. I've put a lot of hours into the first game. I'm most looking forward to the insterstellar travel as well as the multiplayer. Both are something I was really hoping would be released as an update for KSP 1 throughout the entire beta.
[TECHSPOT] Chinese graphics maker is developing a GPU to rival Nvidia's GTX 1080

Well, they are dipping their toes in the dedicated GPU market next year albeit in the low-end. I think if they're successful there, they'll move onto higher-end hardware.
