I've become mildly obsessed with Venjent, a dude who seemingly is keeping the 90 rave scene alive; while doing incredible samples. If you have not heard, we need jungle, I'm afrad. Bonus Sifi Movie recommendation:

My apologies if this isn't something anyone here wants to discuss.

Enterprise has been gracious enough to offer the site to anyone willing to take on the remaining server costs. I know some of you have ideas about how to move forward! If anyone wants to discuss their plans or ideas, please feel free to do it here.

Another interesting note is that it sounds like NZXT and Corsair are both controlled by the same investment group which means a lot of their products will probably be coming from the same sources.

You gotta give Gamer's Nexus props. They go hard when they do these kinds of investigations. Like when they talk about an NZXT case having a fire hazard issue, warning NZXT who did nothing about it, and then getting the government to pressure NZXT until they comply. Not a lot of tech journalists would go that far.

To be fair, the "bait and wait" tactic works on the AI in a lot of open world games. It works in Stalker 2, for example. There's probably a lot fewer games where that doesn't work than games where it does. Far Cry 1 was made by Crytek. It's basically the predecessor to Crysis from a technical stand point. Ubisoft only published Far Cry 1, but then they bought the rights to make it a series and everything after was developed by Ubisoft.

This has nothing to do with Ubisoft today, but it's an interesting video. There are no modding tools for this game. Mods took a really long time to roll out for this game, and a lot of the mod content is basically just restoring things that were cut. Given how this game got a lot of hate for not living up to the E3 demo that was targeting unfinished PS3 specs at the time, it's interesting to see how much was cut. A lot of fine details was cut or broken, there was apparently a much better driving physics model that existed in a recently discovered beta version of the game that Ubi decided to cut in favor of a really dumbed-down driving physics model which has now been restored via a mod. That's one of the most interesting aspects about this to me. I lot of open world Ubisoft games have bad driving physics, so knowing that Ubisoft chooses to make it this way rather than it being something their engine just doesn't support is a weird and interesting thing to know. I guess some people prefer simple driving physics in games that aren't solely focused on driving, but I don't think GTA5 would have been so popular if it had simplified driving physics. Anyway, Watch Dogs 1 is just an interesting note in gaming history at this point. It's one game I'd actually like to see get remastered.

What I said about Stalker is true for the OG games and the new one FYI. Are you looking for retro shooters specifically or any shooters? -

The Metro Redux games are basically the same as the originals on PC. There are some minor changes, but the Redux was more about remastering the games for ps4 era consoles since they came out on ps3 originally. Either way, you can get the for super cheap on any steam sale. -

Are you looking to play a retro FPS game instead of a modern one? Why not just play Stalker 2 instead of the first games? If you're not good at FPS games, I'm not sure stalker would be a good time for you haha. You basically have to get headshots all the time in stalker games otherwise you will run out of ammo well before you run out of enemies. On the other hand, the fact that it has an RGP style health system that lets you just keep healing as much as you want until you run out of med-packs makes it pretty forgiving at times, but the shooting is definitely on the harder side as far as FPS games go. Doom 2016 is great. If you haven't played that much, definitely a good one. Doom eternal is not as good because they introduced some mechanics that just made the gameplay more strict. Doom 2016 is a perfect game; it does exactly what you expect it to do and it does it very well. BF3/4 are not good single player games at all. They were showcases for the frostbite engine at the time, which isn't very interesting now. If you're OK with Ubisoft games, Far Cry 5 is pretty solid (Don't play 6). Watch Dogs 1 (not 2 or 3) and Ghost Recon Wildlands (not breakpoint) are also both good hybrid 3rd person games with first person shooting mechanics. Watch Dogs 1 is basically a retro game now too haha, but it still holds up pretty well in high res and there are actually a ton of mods for it recently. Some other good mentions: Any of the Metro games. Personally I think the first 2 are better than the third. Mafia: Definitive Edition A lot of the games I mentioned here are on game pass. -

I haven't really taken the time to fully thank you yet @ENTERPRISE Truly, thank you for building this space. I have greatly enjoyed having a place above the noise to chat with like-minded individuals. The cadence may be slow, but the quality of forum content is second to none. I think you were absolutely successful in creating a space where high level hardware knowledge is ready and available. Above and beyond what places like OCN offer today. I have fully enjoyed the years of content here. Through all the ups and downs, this has been my number 1 go to for opinions I care about on topics we all want to discuss. Here's to hoping we can figure out a way to keep it going, and if not thanks again for all the good times. -

Update: My jar is full of baby shrimp. There are hundreds of them, so I've been putting some is various other jars and vases and now I have a bunch of these things setup by my windows, each with a few tiny baby shrimp, snails, and live plants.

ExtremeHW Site Auction - Bidding Ends Jan 1st
UltraMega replied to ENTERPRISE's topic in Announcements
Bummer! Hopefully you find another bidder. -
Still really enjoying this game. Despite some of the issues, the game play overall is exactly what I wanted it to be so far. I've been weighing myself down in the game by being too much of a hoarder. Everyone you kill has loot that can be sold, and their guns can be worth a lot so I've been spending way too much time running back and forth farming loot rather than moving the story forward. I love that the game lets you do that, but I realized I was making the game feel like more of a chore than it should and now I'm trying to avoid hoarding as much. When I play a game like this, I usually won't buy any upgrades until have 2-3 times what it costs saved up... which is probably not the most effective way to do things, but the game gives the freedom to be inefficient and hoard as much as I want, and that's cool. I guess the NPCs were supposed to have a big system controlling their actions and would have NPCs be in factions and just have more going on than they do now but I guess it's bugged so that's not in the game right now. Still, without that it's a lot of fun. It's kinda funny because the first stalker game was supposed to have a faction system and it didn't make it into the game until the second stalker game came out. I'm sure that won't be the case here as the devs have promised to get it fixed as soon as they can, but just kinda funny in the sense that the game launching without the faction system makes it a true OG experience.

IMPRESSIVE Battlemage Performance Leaks - Targeting 4070 Super
UltraMega replied to SamsTechStuff's topic in Rumour Mill
That would be pretty great if true. A cheap Intel 4070 equivalent would really shake things up. -
Haha well... the thing is that for a UE5 game that uses lumen and nanite and is open world with meta-human NPCs running around, the performance is actually really good. With the exception of extra dips in the heavily populated areas, the performance is about on par with other UE5 games, some of which are not open world. I get similar performance when I'm just playing the game normally that I got with Hellblade 2 which is another UE5 game with similar features but is very linear. This game is running on UE5.1 I think, and as I understand meta-human is pretty expensive in UE5.1. UE5.5 apparently adds some major optimizations to meta-human. Maybe a major patch down the road could update to the newer version of meta-human, but I have no idea how easy or hard that would be to do.
