  1. The only crazy part is how much we have to talk about the idea of having a couple options for shirts as if it's a major decision. It's really not a big deal at all. Framing it like one is the crazy part to me, and I just keep trying to maintain that overall point since it keeps being commented on. I'm not talking anime girls and abstract images. I mean something like the black wire frame design but made to work better with t-shirt prints, or something like the design we already have for mugs, but in a shirt. I don't think a reasonable argument can be made that a few more options like that would hurt brand identity, or have any real impact on brand identity at all. If we're going to go into this much depth about it, then I don't see how the current logo on a shirt without much else really help much either. For anyone who doesn't know what EHW is, the logo doesn't tell them much. What does ExxtremeHW mean? Is it Extreme Homework? Adding something that at least indicated it was computer related would definitely be on brand.
  2. I don't think a couple of shirt options has any impact on brand identity, so I simply don't agree with your entire premise at all. It seems completely arbitrary and way over the top. A couple of shirt options would have no impact on brand identity unless the other options were really stupid.
  3. I suspect this year there will be a ton of news about AI. I don't want to overload the news section with AI related news, but I don't want to ignore it either since it's all very relavent to where tech is headed. You would guts prefer that I just post individual AI news threads as normal, or have one thread in the news section that was continually updated with AI news, or one thread in the general section for "AI Discussion" while the larger AI topic have regular news threads? Basically, I don't want to clutter up the site with all this rapid fire AI news, but I still want to post it.
  4. I'm not really focused on it at all, just responding to jancos comments. If anything, I think it's strange that there are such strong opinions about 1 shirt vs a couple. They will all have an extremehw.net. logo on them, I'd say that makes them pretty consistent. Why most of the people here prefer a shirt that is just the logo and nothing else, Idk. But it is what it is, I don't really care. Personally, if I had an ehw shirt I'd want it to be less boring than just a logo. I don't think a shirt with nothing more than a logo on it really serves much purpose as far marketing because people don't respond to a logo with no other info. Something that had a sort of tech enthusiast design + the logo would be better unless you just want to look like a best buy employee or something. Just wanted to add, I don't think of the merch as a marketing thing. We're not going to attract users by having merch or wearing shirts out in the world with an ehw logo. The merch is just a way for E to have a bit of revenue for running the site, and more options would likely mean more sales and more revenue for E. And really, I just want there to be a shirt I actually like. A plain logo is not my style.
  5. I'm all for competition, but I wouldn't trust Google or Amazon to reliably be able to do what Microsoft does in these spaces. Given how anti-competitive both of those companies tend to be, especially google, it seems like it would go poorly.
  6. There are currently no shirts since E wasn't happy with the print quality so it's irrelavent for now. That said, if you think having 3 or so different options for shirts is a bad marketing strategy then OK. I think that is obviously not the case, no one is going to be turned away from the site if there are a couple t-shirt options, and it's crazy to me that anyone would have a strong opinion against that. Feels like you just want to debate for the sake of debating. I think we all liked that dark wireframe design, for example. It just didn't work out for other reasons like the background not being clear and too low res, but it was a good design. 3 or so designs like that would be great. If you think 3 or so designs like that would be a bad marketing strategy, frankly, I don't think that is logical reasoning.
  7. I didn't know you were an expert on t-shirts. Even with your logic in mind, less in more doesn't mean just 1. 3 or so designs would definitely be on the "less is more" end of the spectrum.
  8. I don't think a screenshot of a list is a meaningful counterpoint. The merch isn't a big deal, but IMO there's room for more than just one design for shirts. I definitely don't think "less is more" is the right plan for selling anything like t-shirts or mugs in general. For EHW needs, I think 2-3 more creative options would be fine.
  9. As far as merch like t-shirts goes, it's not one or the other. There can be simple options and some more creative ones. Just seems like the more options the better, within reason.
  10. I second this. I know when we were doing the t-shirts it was probably design overload at the time, but I was just having fun with AI image gen at the time and seeing what it could do. There has to be room for a couple more creative designs. It would be good to have the EHW YouTube channel setup so that each video description starts with a link to the EHW homepage followed by a link to the EHW merch store. With a couple creative designs, who knows. Maybe the merch would bring in a few sales straight from YouTube.
  11. I don't know it. No company as big as Microsoft is perfect, but overall I think they're doing pretty well. Seems like the market thinks so too. Google likes to monopolize things so they can charge whatever they want, like with search and ads. If Google were bigger in the business ecosystem, I'm sure it would be a bad thing.
  12. VS what? Microsoft Overtakes Apple: The New King of Tech Valuation! (msn.com) Microsoft’s revenue in 2022 was $198 billion 1. The largest source of Microsoft’s revenue was Office, with $44.9 billion (23% of the total), followed by Azure with $44 billion of revenue (22% of total) 1. The other significant contributors to Microsoft’s revenue were Windows and Server Products, which accounted for 12% of the total revenue each 1. Explore According to Microsoft’s 2023 annual report, the company generated a total revenue of $211 billion in fiscal year 2023 1. The report also states that the largest contributors to Microsoft’s revenue were Server Products and Cloud Services with $78 billion (37% of total), followed by Productivity and Business Processes with $69 billion (33% of total) 2. The other significant contributors to Microsoft’s revenue were Windows and Office, which accounted for 12% of the total revenue each 3
  13. DLSS and FSR frame gen do not require upscaling. Since emulators already are simple to run at above native res, I'm not sure what this really offers. Interesting tech tho, Will have to learn more about it to really judge.
  14. I actually prefer the darker text for that part, easier for the eyes to focus on the title that way. Certainly not a big deal either way tho.
  15. Yes it's not something that excites me much either just as a product. Instead of thinking about the product they're selling, just note the advancements to the digital assistant concept.
  16. Looks good. Probably don't need all the letters to be capitalized, but other than that looks good.
  17. Yea kinda. It's way more capable than something like Alexa. One highlight from the video is when he takes a picture of a spreadsheet and then asks the AI to email him that same spreadsheet but with an additional colum of data. Or when the AI uses its camera to look at what's in the refrigerator and then suggests recipes. I wasn't aware of this until I saw lots of other news outlets talking about it. The demo was impressive.
  18. I would vote for the second one. I don't mind the threads being ticker on mobile, most things are thicker on mobile. Perhaps it can be shortened further though. Maybe instead of "started by: Enterprise, Updated by: Pioneerisloud", it could just say "OP: Enterprise, Last: Pioneerisloud"
  19. Certainly true that as smartphones get more powerful, the need to spend a lot on one just to get a decent experience becomes less and less. I don't see myself upgrading my ~$200 LG Velvet 5G until it breaks. Kinda replying to your other post in the necro thread about Apple M1 here; Apple has made a lot of meaningful advancements with their chips, and they are even running a few real games now with Resident Evil games coming out on Macs and iPhones. But as I understand it, and I could be wrong here, most of Apple's advantages with their chips come from being first in line for the best nodes TSMC can make and not necessarily from them purely being more innovative. Their deep pockets have definitely had some advantages. But it does seem like they've lacked focus in the last few years. Their VR headset is unlikely to have meaningful sales given that it will be over 3 grand and require an eye appointment. At that price, it seems like it competes with something like HoloLens which also seems to be a pretty niche device. I just posted some news about this new Rabbit OS thing that is aiming to be an AI driven digital assistant to outperform something like Siri, and I can't help but think that turning Siri into a much better AI driven assistant should have been something Apple was highly focused on. It would have felt like a good natural progression of their tech. The VR headset, as impressive as it is, feels like a desperate attempt to make something innovative again. I think Steve Jobs understood that Apple innovates best when it innovates on products that can have mass appeal at an (arguably) reasonable price. Apple no longer makes much headway in that space and just continues to make more and more powerful versions of the same things. That said, it's Apple. They could come out next week and unveil an all electric smart car that puts Tesla to shame, or they could come out with a new Version of Siri that makes this Rabbit OS stuff look like an indie project. However, I grow more and more skeptical that Apple can keep up on innovation as it seems like they have gotten way too complacent to simply keep making faster and faster iPhones while using their deep pockets to get access to the best nodes before anyone else does. It seems like a bad long-term strategy to burn cash just to be first in line all the time. Eventually, just being first in line with little else to show won't be enough. Microsoft is looking 10-20 years into the future and putting themselves in a great position to be steering the ship when it comes to AI innovation. Apple is trying to recapture the lighting in a bottle they once had while using brute force to stay relevant. Side note: in your other post comparing Macs to Windows laptops at your work; I'd wonder what the cost comparison is. If you compare like for like specs Apple vs Windows, the Apple PC is probably going to cost double. If you compare similar prices, things will trend much differently. There are also sooo many windows laptops, surely some designs are worse than others. I wonder how people at your company would feel if they were comparing something like a Surface Book to their Macs. Another side note: Microsoft moving into the position of most valuable company while they're making a big push into AI isn't a coincidence. I think 2024 will be a year of shocking innovation in AI. As Sam Altman put it, this next tech revolution will happen faster than any other in history. Since as AI improves, it can get better at improving itself, it's growth will be exponential rather than linear assuming things develop as expected. in 5 years, I think we will start to see major impacts to society stating to kick in. All it will take is an AI smart enough to move around in a robot good enough to start doing a lot of physical tasks in the real world and we could start seeing humans transition into a new era of society. If you look at the robots Boston Dynamic already makes, it looks like most of the ingredients are already there and now they just need to learn how to work with each other. This is not just a guess as to where things are headed, OpenAI is working on this very concept.
  20. A sleek $199 AI assistant that promises to handle your digital tasks sold out in a day — but more are on the way (msn.com) Interesting device. Most interesting that something like this didn't come from Microsoft or Apple first, since it seems like it aims improve on the functionality of something like Siri, or do similar tasks to something like what CoPilot is aiming to be.
  21. Microsoft (MSFT) - Market capitalization COMPANIESMARKETCAP.COM As of January 2024 Microsoft has a market cap of $2.883 Trillion. This makes Microsoft the world's most valuable company according to our data. Microsoft is now ahead.
  22. Microsoft poised to overtake Apple as most valuable company -- again APPLEINSIDER.COM As Microsoft stock rises and Apple's falls over analysts expectation of slowing iPhone demand, the two firms are... Microsoft actually overtook Apple briefly yesterday for a short time before Apple regain ground. The two are neck and neck now, but Microsoft is growing faster. Seems inevitable that Microsoft will overtake Apple and be able to maintain that position for a while at least this time. Right now Microsoft is at 2.88T vs Apple at 2.89T.
  23. This is a recent video/podcast. For anyone who thinks AI is interesting, can't pass up seeing Bill Gates talk to Sam Altman.
  24. You had mentioned the idea of a non valve handle shipping with steam OS before in the thread. Looks like that's happening. Ayaneo Next Lite is the first Steam Deck competitor built on SteamOS WWW.TECHSPOT.COM Chinese manufacturer Ayaneo is bringing the first non-Valve handheld system based on SteamOS to market...
