  1. I feel a little behind since I am what seems like the only one that was never on OCN, but welcome!
  2. As much as I would like 2 support one of the (only 2) manufacturers I have found fir extreme coolers, I have a small milling machine and lathe in my garage and think it would be worth giving it a whack myself. However, I don't even have a baseline on dimensions to start with. The price of copper is ridiculous so I it would be nice to minimize useless prototypes. Not to mention I have very little free time yet I still have more time than money. Any chance someone maybe has some specs? Or maybe a pot they wouldn't mind measuring?
  3. I do realize that most here have been doing this for a while, but there has to be a few stragglers that aren't already on another team. Or maybe some of you old salts need a change? There was one new name that popped up on our team this weekend- "alex132". Not sure of the username here in the forum, but if nothing else it would be nice to see some HWBOT discussion going on. Then again, I have been known to start "new" topics and later find the thread i was looking for.
  4. Went and bought an x99 board that turned out to be junk off the local classifieds. Dude gave me a pile of stuff with it though and among it was this beast. no side panels and no clue what I’m going to do with it, but there certainly is a novelty to its size. (escalade for size reference ?)
  5. thanks for noticing. it has been treating me well so far. i have had some bad luck recently with used boards, but this one is a jewel.
  6. thanks! I like to think it checks email at least as fast as my phone. i have been doing some benchmarking, which i guess is a form of gaming
  7. @Avacado I see the confusion now! my bad... @UltraMega mentioned checking out his listings on ebay. I know there are big plans for a marketplace in the future. I was trying to make a case for an interim classified section. unless I just haven't found it yet, which is also quite likely
  8. ebay and paypal both have fees for the seller. on here we could paypal "friends and family" to people we trust to avoid their fees (though it also voids any buyer protection).
  9. any chance we could get a temporary classified section to avoid ebay fees? maybe sellers could kick a 5% donation to the site on their sales
  10. As far as I can tell, I am not near the experience level of most of the other members here but I do have some background in other areas of custom building. Plus you said you are looking for thoughts... I think that anything that is primarily flashy/form-over-function that is in a role to do work is a novelty. I am of the opinion that in a lot of ways, a reservoir is doing work. I don't know how much effect water (fancy water/coolant) capacity has on actual thermal delta, but my system system is seldom on long enough to heat soak and it is because I have a lot of water (big tube res and HUGE 280 rad). I imagine the distro plates may make up some of that capacity with the tremendous amount of additional lines required, but all the additional required lines just add to feel of it being novelty to me. My current system is a bit of an extreme example, but it is black acetal covers, thick wall black rubber hoses, big tube top with EK pump and really big rad. All business and no party disclaimer: I DO have a Lian Li 011, a whole box of RGB fans and a controller that I dream of using to build something that is mostly pretty but still capable of doing work. For now, it just sits though.
  11. Good eye! fortunately I had already signed up, but I didn't catch that in the post
  12. This didn't exactly pan out ? but I did join the team though
  13. And in case there are other dummies out there that it was also not obvious to, here is the local link https://forums.extremehw.net/topic/298-foldinghome-team-239902/
  14. thanks for the reply. I will check out the links and I finally found the existing dummy guide and PM'ed enterprise to delete this topic because it makes me look even more like a dummy. lol
  15. ..I don't actually have anything to contribute to this thread but as I have been picking and sorting and digging through the other threads, it really made me desire somewhere to go that has the information in a single place. Especially since I fall into the category of complete dummy. I downloaded the program and it is working, but I have seen soooo much stuff on optimizations that I really don't understand or know where to start. Thanks in advance for any contributions
  16. Got my rig all back together and leak free last night. Starting folding and let it run through the night to see what it will do (other than keep my room nice and toasty). I am pretty excited about this event and being able to use my PC for more than just occasional space heating. Thanks all who put this together
  17. I am excited about a classified section because I only buy used. This alone was enough to get my money for a premium. Knowing there are other nice folks here is a bonus
  18. I don’t know why I’m always surprised when there are other adults on the internet.... but it’s not THAT old haha. It feels old as far as technology is concerned though. current project is i7 3960x and gtx titan blacks. Just added a 3 titan yesterday, but I had to fire up my lathe to make the fittings instead of being able to buy them off the shelf. This also makes my stuff feel old
  19. Not coming from the other forum, just anti-social(media) and need somewhere with similarly minded people. Haven’t done a forum intro in like 15 years, but here I am. I am not a serious computer enthusiast and I don’t play PC games. I just like to mess with stuff and sometimes that’s computer hardware. Because of this, all I have is old stuff but it’s still fun for me. Thanks all for creating this community. Try and take it easy on me
  20. I’m new here. Mostly a tinkerer that ventures into PCs on occasion, but this looked like a good place to drop a pic. Nothing new, just titan blacks but they look cool and the third one was my most recent purchase. Just got it all cobbled together last night. Still need to run the 5th and 6th power wires
