My battery died too when it dropped to the single digits here 😢

After the coupon it ended up being the cheapest to any other comparable battery by about ~$50.

    kinda old (2020) but:

Never knew car batteries had such a lane. I've always just gone with batteries with the better "cold crank amps" rating. Been in a situation too many times where its -20C and welp, battery is out of juice.

We still are missing a 4010-4030-4050-4050ti.

Nvidia playing with us. The 4090 not even a full die.

I don't argue that, I simply disagreed that a 104 class die is a XX50 series GPU. I'm all for jumping on the Nvidia price gouging bandwagon because... that's what they're doing.

They save those full 4090 dies for B2B sales as someone else stated here. Gotta get 5K a pop for "AI".

  3. I haven’t played much at all since the winter holidays (which was dominated by my weird Avatar obsession) and I have a fairly decent backlog that borderline brings me anxiety. I also did purchase Alan Wake 2 and I have not even booted it up yet but there are a quite a few games I also want to play but I will prioritize a couple (if possible).

One from last year (System Shock remake). Game looks great, I love Bioshock, and I like some of

the Deus Ex games. This seems like a fun take on a classic PC game and hopefully will introduce me to the System Shock series. On sale, 50% off.

Also in a few weeks time, Pacific Drive comes out and looks super fun. Survival horror is one of my favourite genres and mixing that with driving and roguelike elements like Hades, this has the potential to be one of favourite indie games. 10% discount (pre-order).

Also, as a retired albeit fairly experienced web dev/designer, the note that follows might be useful as well (fwiw):

Note: given the wide array of available browsers/viewport sizes/etc. (e.g., mobile vs. desktop; different screen sizes, portrait vs. landscape, etc.) that are likely in use, when reporting content related issues/problems, it'd be a lot more helpful if those reports included any additional relevant info that can be provided.

    A shortlist follows:

    • the name of the browser used when the issue was noted (e.g., firefox vs. chrome, vs edge, etc.);
    • if applicable, desktop vs laptop, screen size., operating system, etc.;
    • if applicable, mobile phone/tablet make and model; whether viewing in portrait or landscape, etc.;
    • and whether you tried to confirm the issue could be repeated using a different browser/hardware/os, etc.

Good point (to help troubleshooting). I can't replicate it now but if it appears again, I will note the above.

    • Thanks 1
  5. Can confirm, appears on my end too. I thought it was just my phone (im usually on mobile) being weird.

Pressing enter after typing my search query opens that review page in a new tab.

Edit: 1:14pm EST, oddly enough, I cannot replicate it right now. However, this has been happening for the past (at least) 2 weeks. I was trying to dig out my gaming threads using the search function for context when I noticed this event / bug.

the 4070 is honestly a 4050 class gpu.

My mobile 6800m gpu is on par with a desktop 6700xt the 6700xt is almost on par with a 4060ti.

I know it's semantics but the 4070, 4070 Super, 4070 Ti, is still 300m2 die (AD 104). With the trade offs (cut cores, smaller bus etc.), they should have marketed as 4060 cards and priced accordingly. Either way, Nvidia plays a lot with the 104 series chips. Maxwell GM204 were 960 to 980 GPUs. Pascal 1060 to 1080 were GP104s. Turing TU104s ranged from 2060 to 2080S. Ampere GA104s ranged from 3060 to 3070 Ti. I don't believe the 4070 (AD 104) is an XX50 class GPUs given ~Nvidia's history over the past 10 years.

  7. 7 minutes ago, Fluxmaven said:

I am a little disappointed that the 4070 Ti S performs closer to the outgoing 70 Ti than the 4080 seeing as it got bumped up to AD103. I still think that if you need the feature set of team green it's a decent option for a card that you won't need to replace in a year or two. That extra 4GB of VRAM on a 256MB bus are going to keep the card relevant longer especially at higher resolutions.

Agreed… it’s just that this class of card should not be $800.

Honestly, $650 makes way more sense with the 4070 Super at $550. I think the 4070 TIS will sit on the shelves for a while. The $200 gap for the TI is absurd for that wider bus / 4GB of VRAM and minimal gains against the 4070 Ti.

I will see if that can be avoided, will speak with the dev.

That is a fair point, we might as well make it uniform :), will speak with the dev.

    Nice 🙂

I'm not sure if this also matters and if I am just racking up your bill with the dev for all these changes, but within the threads, the "OP" is listed as "Topic Starter". image.png.4913b9f55981678744ce531145808259.png

Just more food for thought if you want to be more consistent across the board. Take these as suggestions, ultimately, I don't want you to spend too much time / $ on these items.

  9. I can't help it...

    image.thumb.png.df21aacf5c3035fe93798cb3246f79bf.png

Also, wasn't this the 4080 12gb or is that the original 4070 Ti? I'm getting confused with all of their naming shenanigans.

At least the 4070 Super seems like a good product and ultimately, the 4080 is finally getting a price cut. But it's too little, too late IMO. Hope they correct their product line with the Blackwell series after trying to take advantage of gamers.

  11. 2024-01-22 - Update

The list is now live! (second post)

Now it may look sparse but throughout the week(s) it will be filled with content. I tried a new way to embed it into the forum by using the publishing function within Google Sheets. Font doesn't seem to match but it should be easier to navigate. *cracks knuckles* time to get at it 😛

    Spoiler

A lot of games still to highlight but so far we have two large releases in 2024.

    1. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It's been 14 years since the last major Prince of Persia release (2010). Metroidvania / 2D platformer style. Fast paced.

    2. Palworld. Openworld Ark survival type game that strangely resembles Pokemon. Sold over 5m copies in 3 days...

A game worth mentioning that will be released in the next ~30 days. Pacific Drive. A "road like", it's a driving-survival game where you traverse the "exclusion zone" in the pacific north west. Looks super fun and creepy at the same time. I intend to buy this at launch (if reviews are good).

  12. Noice!

In my mind, "Op" should be "OP" but now I'm just being fussy 😛

Edit: It also may be worth harmonizing the date format across all types of posts.

Reviews still follow the full date (E.g, January 4, 2024) whilst all other posts and threads follow (MM DD, HH:MM)

Hey @Slaughtahouseand anyone else. If you want me to take pictures of my actual tea in the bags so you can see the quality and what it looks like, before you decide to purchase it, let me know. 🙂

If you have the passion for tea, just go for it 🙂 My inventory is now stocked for the next 3-6 months so I know I won’t place a (larger) order anytime soon. I am also unsure if I can order those specific teas here in Canada. Still doesn’t prevent us from chatting about it or to inform others 🙂

Personally I can’t tell quality by looking at the leaves… but they sure look pretty XD

Not something I am interested in, I do chai lattes, but certainly looks delicious and I'd drink it if you gave me one. Not interested just because of all the work involved to make it 🤣

Thanks 😛 Yea it was a little more effort than my espresso routine but ultimately it's a tea with frothed milk 🙂 I need to add more leaves I think, steep it longer, and maybe a bit more honey. It was good but not 100% perfect.

Certainly interested in trying a Chai 🙂 Never had one.

  15. Tried making a London Fog with Tealish’s Earl Grey Cream tea leaves.

Recipe (first attempt) for two cups London Fog:

    - 1 heaping tablespoon of earl grey tea leaves

    - ~250ml boiling water

    - Steep for 5mns.

    - 1 heaping tablespoon of honey

    - 2 drops of vanilla extract

    - Pour batch into two separate cups.

    - Froth 250ml milk however you prefer and pour evenly into both cups

Makes sense. As far as raster goes, you basically on average have the 2nd fastest gaming card in the world. Its faster than the more expensive 4080 for raster.

Exactly, that's why I bought it too.

I've had pretty good luck with AFMF so far, and the frame gen on FSR3 too.  I view these as ADDED features though to monkey with, not so much as a "game play necessity" to turn on every title.

It's definitely not a set it and forget it setting.  It's a setting to use on a per game basis.  Avatar the framegen seems to work very well and smoothly (with my setup at my resolution).  I use it on Void Crew as well, and it works great there (AFMF).  Other games, I think I tried Cyberpunk and it was a jittery mess.  It's getting better at least.  Still installing my gaming titles though, so I can't speak for my whole library yet.

And yes, you DEFINITELY want to turn on AFMF with a high framerate to start with.  I try to keep at 60+ (with AFMF off), so I stay within my freesync range at ALL times including the dips.  It does feel a LOT smoother in some titles with it on.  First person games I've noticed tend to be a LOT worse and jittery.  I don't much use it on first person titles (yet).

But that's also why I feel like these AI generated frames really aren't that great anyway.  I'm always pro raster camp, get the fastest GPU you can afford and power through it.  I didn't buy a 7900XTX for the framegen, I bought it because it was the fastest card I could afford, that would push my resolution.

Look, some may tolerate frame gen more than others and I won't argue that. I just didn't like, even in the game that has really good implementation but isn't that popular (Avatar). Ultimately, it's a feature as you described and I love my 7900 XTX.

It's the least amount you can pay today for the absolute most amount of raster performance. I didn't want to wait 3 years for Blackwell so I jumped in immediately (day 1 purchase) and I am glad I did because, time has value too, ya know 🙂 So I will ride this card out, as long as I can until Blackwell approaches and then sell it for as much as I can to reinvest into being a day 1 buyer on the next gen.

Been very very pleased with mine. 🙂

Same but I wouldn’t buy one for framegen.

Even in Avatar, where it’s been reported to be the best implementation yet, it’s not worth committing to. Maybe if you have 80-90fps baseline in your preferred game but there are not enough games that support FSR3 where the 7900XTX can blast it at 4K.

Their driver level implementation is not good. Too much judder when you move around.

With reference to a release scheduled later this year, specifically S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl (which I have been looking forward to)...

...so i feel like i've been growing a third eye in my gut lately (note: it's not a zit--i tried squeezing it, it wouldn't pop); and I've been re-watching the HBO series Chernobyl, which I find fascinating each time I re-watch it; not only because it's very well done, but also because I was actually in the relative vicinity when the reactor blew its top back in 1986 (I was stationed at Leipheim, GE; and lived off-base in a berg called Burgau, GE--see the map that follows below the video).

Anyway, I do recall the neighbors cautioning us about eating things like locally sourced venison and/or locally grown vegetables; and I've always wondered if I'd eventually suffer any ill effects as a result of the incident (like growing a third eye in my gut).

...lastly, a map of where I was when the Cesium 137 was falling out of the sky follows, accompanied by a color coded list of just how much ground level radiation collected in the various areas over the period of the first year following the catastrophe:

There is an interesting doc, not sure if on a streaming service or youtube, but it went into details how native species within the contamination zone have spread radiation all across Europe. One of the examples was reindeer / deer, which I believe migrate from Ukraine to Finland. Don't quote me on that but the whole story was rather interesting. E.g.,

Long after the radiation that blanketed Europe dispersed, herders in Norway are living with the effects of the worst civilian nuclear disaster in history.

  20. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I came across a video last year which I thought was pretty interesting:

The presenter is very good at communicating and explaining the whole process. The AI can’t complete Pokemon but they demonstrate how the AI can be trained to learn in a way that is digestible.

I have not opened most of those articles but I read about Google layoffs for tomorrow reported by Ars. I’m not entirely convinced that article is accurate. They’re correlating PMAX (AI solution) to LCS (Large Customer Sales) and personally, I think the answer is more simple. Larger customers are spending less (larger trend) and they [Google] need to reorganize their groups and teams internally (trim the fat) to either manage more clients with less or reprioritize smaller clients. I could be entirely wrong but it seems incredibly risky for large clients to switch to AI so quickly at such scale that it’s already resulting in layoffs at Google. Seems sus.
