  1. 70 series was never mid and that’s the Nvidia effect. 90 was halo / flagship 80 was high / enthusiast 60 was always mid 50 was budget 40 was low 70 series dating back to Fermi (470, 570) we’re always for that segment between mid and high. A sweet spot for perf and IQ. They always were an upsell for the mid range. Spend the extra $50 or $100 and get the bigger chip, wider bus, more vram etc. Going from 70 to 80 was typically harder to justify and there was less value ($/perf). A 12GB card in 2025 is not sweet spot. It’s the min. needed for the features they’re advertising like RT at resolutions like 1440p. Agree with everything you’re saying, except I believe the 3070 at $500 (theoretical) MSRP was as close as we got in a long time. So tired of these games from Nvidia. Hopefully after the data center clients are saturated with a metric tonne of Hopper and Blackwell GPUs, they pull back on spend and the market returns back to normal. I’m still ready to “side grade” my 7900 XTX to Blackwell, but I aint going below 16gb of VRAM. Still happy with what I have but more and more games will be built on RT and I feel it’s now time to jump back to Nvidia. If a 4070 Ti is matching or beating a 7900 XTX in RT heavy loads, safe to say a 5070 / Ti will be near or above 4080 Super RT perf. A 5080 would be perfect but like everyone knows… it looks terrible on paper. AGAIN…. Let’s see how this all shakes out but not looking good for enthusiasts or budget minded gamers
  2. I've tried all modes on XeSS and have found with RT ON, it's best to skew towards quality. Otherwise the rays being casted are... aliased or show large pixels. See my 1440p (ultra quality) images for context. I briefly played with FSR but found XeSS very good. Less break up in motion and arguably, better than native with UE5 TSR. FSR is still better than TSR but I'd lean on XeSS in this instance at 4K.
  3. Silent Hill 2 4K (XeSS Ultra Quality), Ultra Settings, RT Enabled (Hardware Lumen) I'm now 7-8 hours in. Game is estimated to be 20-30 hours, depending on how much time you spend hunting down collectibles. I downloaded a mod linked here to help "reduce" stutters and improve IQ. I’m not sure if it helped with stutters, which depending on the area you’re in, is better or worse. Using the mod alongside XeSS and hardware lumen (RT ON) yielded some pretty impressive results. RT is always on FYI, but toggling "ON/OFF" swaps between software and hardware lumen. Eventually, the time of day in-game changes and when you’re exploring some environments exposed to sunlight, it's certainly worth the performance hit. At least in my view. I've put a comparison below to highlight how ON/OFF varies drastically. Especially compared to my previous post. With these settings, the mod, and XeSS set to ultra quality at 4K, I'm around ~45fps average. If there are less reflections or light sources, it goes above 60. Some areas that are more taxing are closer to 40. I tried NOT to spoil but I feel it's important to highlight some locations, like the hospital, to really showcase what the game can offer. The way the light from dawn/dusk floods through the windows is very comforting and impacts my level of immersion. Especially in HDR. Being confined for hours in interior environments, and the returning to the streets is oddly satisfying. The fog is billowing and dense, rolling over objects in a really satisfying way. Like in the image with the delivery / postal truck above. Another feature worth highlighting is that the items and maps are always being rendered with the RT lighting system when being examined. So, depending where you're physically holding up the item, you'll get shadows and bounces. See the map image above. As much as I love it, it's difficult to recommend. It's a shame there is so much stuttering and it's very inconsistent. If that wasn't present, this would be an easy recommendation to anyone who wants to punish their PC. If you want to deep dive into technical issues, DF recently released a video and it's... not good.
  4. Amazon Prime “Gaming” has various games available for claim on platforms like GoG or Epic. Prime Gaming | Discover, download, and play games GAMING.AMAZON.COM Enjoy games and more gaming extras every month with Amazon Prime. Bioshock Remastered, Loop Hero, Trek to Yomi, Stray Gods, Cat Quest II, The Falconeer, Lego Hobbit, and Borderlands 2 are just a few worth mentioning.
  5. Silent Hill 2 1440p, Ultra Settings, RT ON vs OFF (XeSS Ultra Quality) Just highlighting RT ON vs. OFF. Very subtle and in most instances, it's not worth the performance drop. TPU dropped some benches and comparisons for those curious. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/silent-hill-2-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html https://www.techpowerup.com/review/silent-hill-2-remake-dlss-vs-fsr-vs-xess-comparison/ In other news, I am about 4-5 hours in. I'm enjoying it more and more as I play
  6. Validate that performance improvement against the games or software you intend to use. Below are 5 links to the latest performance testing for 5 unique, AAA games that use the latest technology. In nearly all instances, 7800 XT = 6900 XT. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/silent-hill-2-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html https://www.techpowerup.com/review/god-of-war-ragnarok-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html https://www.techpowerup.com/review/warhammer-40k-space-marine-2-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html https://www.techpowerup.com/review/star-wars-outlaws-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html https://www.techpowerup.com/review/black-myth-wukong-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html Power is one thing, heat and cost of a block is another. Hope this helps and watch out for deals. 7900 XT has been dropping to ~600 USD to levels recently but your mileage may vary wherever you live. I presume its more expensive. If 7900 XT binning is good, you have a card that has good power delivery like the Red Devil, XFX, or Sapphire Nitro, and you have a block, you can probably edge out 5% more performance. This is just recollection of what I recall from the owners thread on a different forum. Those 3 vendors offered some of the best OC capabilities, especially with the XTX.
  7. Ooof I need to watch this! Thank you for sharing
  8. Silent Hill 2 4K (XeSS Ultra Quality), Ultra Settings, RT Disabled (Software Lumen only) Wow! I am about 2 hours into the remake for Silent Hill 2. It's my first time playing it and I am really enjoying it. It lives up to the hype. PC stuff out of the way. 4K, Ultra, with RT ain't happening at 60fps. Maybe 4090 users but with 7900 XTX, I cap out at around 30fps, closer to 20fps. Cutscenes are CAPPED at 30fps (I don't see a way to disable it). Disabling RT (very little difference) and using XeSS (ultra quality) gets me to steady 60. As is with UE5 games, it DOES have traversal stutter. How much that bothers you is subjective but its tolerable for me. Overall, very smooth PC experience. Needs some patches but its more than playable and you shouldn't have to worry about jumping in at launch. As for the UE5 features, I find this game does an excellent job rendering lighting, fog, and glass. Texture detail is fantastic but there is little to no tessellation on most walls, like a masonry/brick wall. High level of detail, especially when looking at objects up close. In some ways, it feels like a very thorough mod of an older game in UE5. Not a bad thing but it's not a show stopper in ALL aspects. HDR implementation is excellent and I'd argue it's a must for this type of game. Especially going in and out of dark places with the moody lighting. If I had to put a number to it, 7/10 for PC port quality. 9/10 for game execution. Audio, story telling, exploration, puzzle all play great. Combat feels... clunky (dodge, attack, dodge, attack) but I am early on and only using a board with nails in it. If you're into survival horror, need a Halloween / October game, you're in for a treat
  9. There are certainly instances where it’s mixed lower against other sounds or dialogue but the sound is there when I am playing Outlaws. I do believe the effects overdone. The way grass and trees behave in both Avatar and Outlaws gives me the impression a hurricane is about to form, at nearly all times XD. Here are a few clips I’ve made from the Xbox version:
  10. If new only, I’d save a few bucks and stick with the 7800 XT if you’re not in the US. Within budget, more SKUs readily available, better RT than RDNA2, normal power consumption, really avoiding the need for a block. I’m not sure 7900 GRE / 7900 XT have a wide range of blocks vs 7900 XTX vs. 6900 XT / 6950 XT. A used 6950 XT only if you really want to spend time tweaking it and need a block but I wouldn’t choose a card with a 100w more power consumption than a 7800 XT for maybe 10% more performance. Really depends on the deal IMO.
  11. For anyone interested, Silent Hill 2 Remake from GMG has a good promo that combine with email vouchers (check your inbox). I netted 26% off; 51 USD + tax. I picked it up because it is reviewing very well and I love survival horror. Happy to provide some high level feedback on AMD (7900XTX / 5800X3D) next week if people are interested. Specifically RT On/Off, 1440p and 4K performance. Otherwise, I may play in isolation and follow up before end of the month
  12. Agreed. I also think it has something do with the textures and assets contrasted against the lighting. People on the street, typical objects, and other landmarks don't always look correct. In some instances it does. Especially when I look around at metallic and concrete elements and the way light diffuses or bounces. People in most cutscenes or scripted moments look good but then it's contrasted by the people you find running around that have an uncanny valley feel. That's my take at least and it's very subjective. I get the same feeling when I play Outlaws. In a lot of instances and areas, it looks good but it's not consistent. Beyond common knowledge, not really. It's has more details to elaborate specific issues that occurred during development, within internal communications, and strongly presents an emphasis on the impact to the people behind the scenes. The biggest technical topic they dive into is the limitation of storage speed, which drives more into the LOD comment you have above. Slow asset loading breaks game systems which results in lots of bugs, in a nut shell. They do also call out and identify what is wrong with the way they used to work, with teams predominately working in silos. The only critique I have is that the article has a bias favouring CP2077 / CD Projekt. It avoids more in-depth discussions why the advertising created unparalleled level hype and play dumb to it. The article continues: They didn't address the lies, like what was captured in well known videos like "overpromise, sell, underdeliver"
  13. There is truth somewhere buried under the mountain of speculation. All I’ve learned is that humans love to speculate and are desperate to earn a quick buck. Whether the underpinning technology is useful or not is irrelevant.

  15. It took me about 20 to 30mns to read but it was interesting. At least to me since I’ve been in the industry prior to the pandemic and can understand the challenges. Specifically with the lockdowns, network constraints, and previous ways of working adapting to remote. My experience with Cyberpunk 2077 was not good and has left a longstanding impression on me and my perception CD Projekt delivering a stable release. I was extraordinarily hyped for the title. It was the key reason I upgraded my system from Sandy Bridge / 1060 to Zen 2 / 3060 Ti. I even purchased a cheap NVME drive from a user here, just for the game. I pre-ordered the steel case GoG version. In fact, my 3060 Ti arrived on the same day as I received my game copy (Dec 11, 2020). And boy oh boy, on a very capable PC, my experience was NOT good. I’ve experienced buggy launches but I don’t think I ever went through anything that bad from such a reputable developer. Not just the typical open world bugs (clipping, glitching, crashing) but large bugs to the main story. Character disappearing, events not triggering, and just total AI failure in scripted scenes. There was a lot of narrative focused on this being console specific issue, especially those running on base PS4 / Xbox One, but my PC experience wasn’t all that much better. It may have looked better but it played very poorly. The article provided some interesting context to explain how varied the results were on PC and how elements as simple as garbage bags impacts game stability. The article acknowledges that a lot of the challenges, internal investigations (at all levels) and feedback has all… harmonized into a similar narrative. It’s not a single issue. Coming back to it at patch 1.5, it was clear it was heading in the right direction but I was still experiencing substantial bugs traversing the city and playing quests. So I quickly paused.Fast forward to 2.0 released in fall 2023, it’s finally in the state that it needed to be in, so many years ago. I haven’t sat down with the game since (I have been in Act I since 2020). Mainly due to 2023 being such a banger year for excellent games. However, I am compelled to reboot my playthrough, rebuild my corpo, and go from start to finish.

  18. The way the exec conducted themselves in that interview doesn't give me a vote of confidence they'll be successful or hit the mark You really want me to believe that the "team" chose this path years ago? Or maybe, they were instructed by the higher ups, who refused to listen to feedback about where they need to go and lacking resources to get there. Nah... lets blame everyone else.

  21. They're using both terminology interchangeably (TDP and TGP) so it's difficult to say. All we know is based on Ada, it seems unlikely that the products will ship in a configuration where that is default power draw. Unless its an engineering unit but I would suspect until they announce the products, we'll likely see a change. The other notable point is the raw compute and vram gap between the 5080 and 5090. It's significant! I hope the 5080 is a bit more... performant, regardless of what the specs on paper say. Targeting a 20% boost to current 4090 performance would be ideal.
