  1. PSU arrived. I put it into the open bench. Unfortunately, the placement of the ON/OFF switch clashes with the bottom component of the frame / legs. Preventing the PSU from being installed and access to the switch. The only orientation I can install it without modifications, is to have the PSU flipped, where the fan is pointed away from the bench. In this operation on a level surface, the fan is constricted. If the bench is in vertical orientation, this isn't an issue. When I start migrating my system, I'll see if vertical orientation is stable. Otherwise, I'll consider spacers / longer screws to swap PSU orientation. Or alternatively, install feet for the legs, to provide some ventilation for PSU. It's not critical... but it's annoying
  2. Intel hit with lawsuit over $32 billion loss, shareholders complain company hid problems | Tom's Hardware WWW.TOMSHARDWARE.COM Was Intel hiding its big problems all along?
  3. One might argue that you could simply buy the 7900X, considering you can find it at the same cost. And if you want to save power on the Zen 4 chip, turn on Eco mode. The caveat is that in single threaded workloads, the Zen 5 chip would beat it.
  4. Even then, you have to question what the gain really is. Zen 4 was set to boost and run to 95C. This seems more like a re-release of Zen 4 with a different tuning. Of course there are some efficiency gains on the smaller node but it's surprising that the perf increase isn't close to 10-15% across the board from some reviewers.
  5. In theory, yes. In practice, how well are you at modifying cables? A single PCIe 5.0 / ATX 3.0 female connector on a PSU or GPU, (in this instance your PSU) could be rated for up to 600w of continuous power. Potentially you could have one cable to split into 3, older PCIe 8 pin connectors for your GPU. That said, I’ve only seen cables from suppliers with 8 pins for PSU side. Not GPU side. Which have specific compatibility to PSU SKUs or vendors. Example: Cable for Corsair PSUs. https://www.amazon.ca/Fasgear-PCI-Gen-Power-Cable/dp/B0BF4QBYV4 What PSU do you have? Just for a sanity check to find a compatible cable, if one exists. If such a cable doesn’t exist, you’ll have to modify it yourself to ensure the 8 pin connectors fit in your GPU. Edit: If your PSU has two, PCIe 5.0 (16pin, 12VHPWR female slots)… don’t you have many, free, 8 pin slots available for your GPU? That PSU must be 1200w+
  6. I skimmed through the bar graphs from DF, published on Eurogamer, and they're reporting ~10% increase when comparing 7700X to 9700X (1080p) in their suite of games. Seems more or less what was expected. Page 4 | AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X review: Zen 5 impresses, but 7800X3D still reigns for gaming WWW.EUROGAMER.NET The Digital Foundry review of the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X from Will Judd. Is Ryzen 9000 a worthwhile evolution over Ryzen 7000's 7800X3D for gaming?
  7. Very odd results, there are some outliers where a game like CS:2 or Assetto Corsa has some significant gains. Maybe due to specific architecture optimizations that those specific games leverage? I'm not sure because nearly every other game shows no difference or performs worse than the 7700X. Weird when the weeks prior to launch, it sounded like Zen 5 CPUs could potentially trade blows or come close to 7800X3D. Clearly something doesn't add up and now provides more context into the launch delay. AMD Says Zen 5 9700X CPU Is 2% Faster Than the 7800X3D in Gaming | Extremetech WWW.EXTREMETECH.COM Previously, the company had only compared it with Zen 3's 5800X3D.
  8. I hear you and I agree it's always healthy to challenge or question what's being reported. I'll say that It's not just that one outlet. Buildzoid has also done an analysis and theorized to be clear, what are the potential issues. It's all in the original post in this thread. The effort from these outlets stem from multiple user reports (forums, online posting, intel responses) along side larger business customers (b2b, OEM, server providers etc.) reaching out to media outlets too. They all have some level of creditability which should be factored. I also never stated the above as 50% failure rates as fact (up to) as reported Wendell and never said "ONLY B2B". There are also approx. 20-30 users active on this forum with different type of CPU hardware. I'm not sure if we'll get an accurate sample from users here. Until we get clarity from a deep dive and full analysis from a neutral third party, or Intel providing full visibility (near impossible due to liabilities, other legal issues) we'll continue to speculate.
  9. I meant in the context of this thread and what's happening across the board. Many different, large B2B customers (businesses, server providers etc.) are running into issues with up to 50% failure rate. This is all summarized in Wendell's video, which spearheaded all the additional media attention and largely, intel's initial response. That was the first media outlet to provide detailed insights on the infrastructure side, not typical consumer side.
  10. If stable operation requires intervention from the user, there is something wrong with it. I’m all for enthusiasts making tweaks to improve performance, better stable all core OCing or reducing power targets, but those should not be a requirement for the product to run at advertised speeds.

  12. Progress of PC knowledge... Personal troubleshooting, game forums, Youtube channels, PC enthusiast forums and tech websites, professional experience, and a mix of everything in between. However, Youtube is certainly the main feed and most times than not, I just listen to it while I am working. Youtube starting from late 2000's -> NCIX's channel which was hosted by Linus -> Hardware Canucks / LTT -> Gamers Nexus / Hardware Unboxed today. I watch other enthusiast channels from time to time, depending on what specific info I am looking for. Video game benchmarks? Usually Hardware Unboxed or Digital Foundry. Comprehensive performance reviews (hardware)? Digital Foundry, Gamers Nexus, Hardware Unboxed. SFF* PCs ? Machines & More. Case reviews? Hardware Canucks or Gamers Nexus. Overclocking, undervolting, other manufacturing deep dives? Der8auer or Gamers Nexus. I'm far less into technical overclocking and more into broader industry context and good practices.
  13. Yes, exactly. I dont want to assume Flux has the same issue but when I swapped over to Noctua fans for my rad (just in push), I get that Schwebung. I originally had no idea it was a known phenomena. Nearly 2 years ago, I thought could be my original fan splitter, extension cable, potentially with increased resistance for one fan. I swapped it and there was a placebo effect. I thought it was gone but nope, it's still there. I havent tried running one fan at 200rpm lower (since they're all on the same header, splitter) but it's worth a try. Either way, I got used to it but originally it was annoying AF.
  14. Quick update: Took a "chance" and ordered a SF850L PSU. There was a flash sale today where the priced dropped to $94 USD ($130 CAD). The "L" variant (+30mm length) isn't ideal due to lower case compatibility but from the one review I found, it seems the quality should be similar to the SF line and it's technically PCIe 5.1 / ATX 3.1 compatible. Which is a nice perk for future proofing / eventual GPU swap* Review: https://hwbusters.com/psus/corsair-sf850l-sfx-l-psu-review-the-best-sfx-l-psu/
  15. There is no fix for Intel’s crashing 13th and 14th Gen CPUs — any damage is permanent - The Verge WWW.THEVERGE.COM We got some answers from Intel, and more are on the way.
  16. Update: Openbench “case” has arrived! Surprisingly, no duty fees either. I won’t assemble the build yet as I still need an air cooler and SFX PSU but one step closer. I do have an old Xigmatek Dark Knight that maybe could be modded to fit AM4 as a stop gap. TBD.
  17. As long as every enthusiast signed up focuses their knowledge sharing here, the change and growth will naturally happen. I recommend going cold on the other platforms if possible if your objective is to help this site grow. If you're an enthusiast and love to share your experiences or help others, I don't think anyone here or there should judge where you post. We're all trying to reach the same goal (provide resources, knowledge share). I personally don't tinker with my system or spend as much money or time on my hardware as I used to, but I like to chat here with those knowledgeable. It helps me stay informed or alternatively, I can try to advise if someone calls for help (creates a thread looking for support).
  18. I want to believe too but if it's within the microcode or deeper, I'm not so sure what the sensors are reporting and what is being read out by HWiNFO or any software, is correct. Hopefully when the update arrives mid August, we'll get more insights. If I were you, run some stress tests and log it in HWiNFO (export the csv) before and after the microcode update. Take those .CSVs, import it into a freeware like Google Sheets, and visualize it to see the difference.
  19. Intel has unveiled that in 2023, limited production units of 13th gen CPUs were in fact impacted by oxidization issues. Doesn't exclude other factors discussed, alleged by GN's sources but interesting to see how all this pressure has finally made Intel open up. Hope they* set the course right.
  20. Thanks for sharing. Pulling this from the PR quote: incorrect voltage requests to the processor It would be interesting to understand this point more. The level of deviation (average) under different loads. I presume this means any voltage monitoring from software was completely incorrect? As many enthusiasts seem to have instability issues even after lowering voltages from what I've read online.
  21. Ah, you're correct. Email mentions both separate email update once shipped but also includes a separate link. It's in transit now
  22. I appreciate the extra cases linked, thank you! I’m aiming to go quite small so unfortunately most cases, including the ones considered here will not fit ATX. I did do extensive research on the DAN A4-H20 when it released ~2 years ago and it seems to be fairly easy to get. I’ll bookmark it Lian Li A4-H2O Small Case - Mini ITX - Aluminum Exterior & SPCC Steel Interior - PCIe 4.0 - Easy AIO Installation - Supports SFX/SFX-L Power Supply (A4-H2O A4 Silver) : Amazon.ca: Electronics WWW.AMAZON.CA Lian Li A4-H2O Small Case - Mini ITX - Aluminum Exterior & SPCC Steel Interior - PCIe 4.0 - Easy... In other news, or no news, still no confirmation email that the mini itx bench has shipped. I’ll give it a few days before emailing or escalation. I started to draft up a PC part list for anyone interested. It’s really just a means for me to archive and price check. (ITX PHASE 2, 2024). Ignore compatibility. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Slaughtahouse/saved/
  23. Thank you for the context. My PSU knowledge is limited and all based on recommendations from 10 years ago. Whether it was from friends who worked in the hardware industry or Shilka over on OCN. The big caveat that I was aware of was different B2C vendors (Corsair, NZXT, Silverstone etc.) selling different SKUs from different OEMs E.g., my Corsair unit is actually Seasonic. I wasn't sure if that issue was still prevalent where baseline quality could vary a lot between SKU. If Corsair, across the line on SFX is still well regarded, regardless of the OEM, I'll keep my eyes peeled on their SF line.
