  1. Have an MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34" ultrawide monitor I'd like to get off the desk and onto the wall. Anybody recommend some good wall mounts? Tried desk mounts and found they were too unreliable as far as movement. Plus desk sits pretty close to the wall anyway.
  2. That's what I thought... Still took over 2 weeks to get a new one in. Just got it yesterday, sent the old one back after testing the new one to make sure there wasn't the same issue. Had to put down a HEFTY deposit on the credit card just to get it before 3 weeks. If I hadn't, they told me it would have taken 2-3 months.
  3. Ya, don't know. If it had bad bios, then it came with them. I flashed the bios with the rom long after this mess started. It's alright, I've run the gambit and nothing has worked. Really wish EVGA was actually open on the weekend when people could use them the most, but I'll be calling them on monday. So it'll either get fixed or RMA'd. Really be nice if they can fix it, since I've gone through all the wait/expense and time to fix this...but get the feeling it'll be a return. Guess it'll be just a matter of how many more days/months or years it may take to get a replacement. Obviously I posted this mess on a couple other forum boards (EVGA included), the people on there seemed to be the least help...which is oddly ironic since they seemed to have the most problem with it.
  4. If I disable the card, then flash the bios, the whole system will boot using the video card and will actually load everything correctly. The resolution is absolutely horrible, since it's running something really low level. BUT as soon as I enable the card it will jump to it's natural resolution (much higher quality) and then crashes within seconds. Then I have to shut it all down, plug back into the onboard gpu and re-boot the system.
  5. Can somebody help? Apparently I was due for another kick in the nuts. Installed the new 3080ti and now my video doesn't work. Well, it partially works. I can boot up, get to uefi, login screen and then the screen goes black and I get a no signal/monitor goes down. I've been reading up on it but nobody has found a fix??? I've tried different cables, deleting drivers, went into uefi and disabled csm (which just rebooted back into uefi). Removed the card and running it off of onboard graphics. Even tried running it off of HDMI instead of the DP, but it doesn't make a difference. What the f*ck was the point in waiting all this time to drop so much coin on a card that's worthless??? Apparently this is an issue but I have no idea at this point on how to fix it. Even booted into safe mode just to delete everything and start over. Booted with the card unplugged because somebody tried it, etc etc etc. Everything is up to date. Running 1000W power supply, so it's not lacking. Any answers, thoughts, random ideas? I'd rather not have to RMA, since I took the board apart to attach the water block. That and I know it works just fine in any port when it initially boots up. I9-9900k Z390-e
  6. Sad part is the board layout/chip placements are EXACTLY the same. It's just the single mounting point that's just slightly off. So they didn't lie to me entirely. But we just moved 900 miles a couple weeks ago and I have far too much on the burner at the moment. Adapting that single mount isn't going to happen when I can get a new waterblock in a couple days that I know fits exactly. But it is what it is. Figured I'd give it away if somebody wants to pay shipping. Otherwise I'll end up maybe saving and modifying, or just trashing it. Technically it was paid for long ago, so no real loss on the money, just more frustration than anything else since I had set aside enough time yesterday to dis-assemble the new card, assemble with the new waterblock and get it into the system. So it'll be another week before I can set aside the time to complete it. Which is fine, new block shows up on tuesday.
  7. Fortunately no issue on my end. In montgomery alabama we had it everywhere, moved 900 miles north (Kansas City, MO) and there hasn't been an issue here either. Which was good, since it was greatly needed to get back up and running.
  8. D*mmit! Waterblock doesn't quite fit. Pre-ordered one from EK before the cards dropped, thinking I was being smart getting ahead of the game. Guy told me that the block would fit the model of card. Close...but one mounting point is just 1/8" off. Normally it wouldn't be a problem, but it's the point where it holds the mounting bracket and there isn't enough room to screw the nut on. So if anybody reads this and they want the water block...can have it d*mn cheap. EK-Quantum Vector RTX 3080/3090-Copper+Plexi. Part number: 3831109832189 Look it up and if it fits, it's yours. Last time the cards dropped there was a rush on waterblocks and it took me months to get one. Pre-ordered the block AND the card, of course the card situation goes sideways. So I've been holding onto this waterblock since 5-10-2020 waiting on my Q to come up and get the card initially signed up for.
  9. Close enough when it comes to GPU's. I'll have a good idea what to look for now when it comes to temps. Think yours may run a few degrees hotter, but not by much. I have a hydro for the gpu and that'll help quite a bit. My system runs pretty cold even under load (division 2, assassin's creed), so rendering worlds doesn't seem to really heat the coolant up too much and the 1070 levels out a lot while under load. Will have to see how this new card will do, since it's quite a bit more than the 1070. Especially while running 3 monitors, all different sizes.
  10. Finally got a chance to order (and on the way) a EVGA 3080 Ti 12G-P5-3955-KR!!! Built an entirely new machine and finally get the new card. Been running a liquid cooled 1070 for awhile now. Solid card, but considering the system, it's finally good to upgrade. Card should be here wednesday! Means having to drain/possibly re-pipe some of the system, but it'll be worth it. Couple questions...anybody have this card...any quirks I should know about? I've considered running it air cooled, but wasn't sure what numbers anybody was seeing. Liquid I'm getting 30c off the 1070. I know this will run hotter, but no idea by how much.
  11. Actually thought about doing the density fiberboard and just pulling the carpet up and slipping it under so it's not even visible. The outriggers I built are working quite well. Installed carriage bolts on them for the time being so the rounded heads are facing downward. But the spikes should get here soon. Then I'll swap them out. The outriggers increase the footprint quite a bit, the spikes will only re-enforce it. I wasn't concerned so much about the amount of weight...more the period of time. The spikes are fairly sharp as to cut a clean path through the thread pattern of the carpet without causing much damage...but vibrations (movement) + mass = can over time slowly drive them into/through the sub flooring. So I put it out there on a couple AV forums to see what kind of long term affects the spikes have over time. Some guys are running floor speakers that are far heavier than mine and stabilizing them with spikes. Unfortunately not many really replied and of course I got the idiots who talk about just spraying the cat, opening the door and accidentally letting it out, sell the cat/buy a dog etc etc etc. But guess we'll give it a shot and see what happens. Unfortunately the speakers have a very narrow footprint side to side. So they are very tippy left and right. No idea why an engineer would design that...but as a mechanical engineer, I'd like to * slap them and ask why they don't design them to be a bit more stable on multiple styles of flooring. Or at least have the ability to open the back up and stack in some weights or something. There are so many options that would not only enhance the sound quality, but also make it much more stable for kids/pets etc. I know my rottweiler would knock them over just because he was a 120lb overgrown puppy. So cat or dog never really mattered other than one climbs and the other is a clod lol But I do appreciate the actual thoughts/experiences people have replied. Sometimes even a fabricator/engineer can question their options without knowing long term effects. Always good to get another person's thoughts/experiences.
  12. Sub floor should be the typical heavy particle board. So I was thinking instead of a really sharp point, maybe something that has a bit more degree on it. Hopefully the point and contacting surface area would keep it from sinking too far in? But hard to say, like I said my experience with these is nothing. All I know is the physics behind it.
  13. Okay, picked up a couple Klipsch r-820f floor speakers and realized just how unstable they are on carpet. Now, we have 3 cats...two of which could give a * less about them. The problem one is a climber/leaper. Now, I've been looking at spiking the speakers, but all I've heard is that they destroy the carpet. Which is possible, given these units each weight about 70lbs. So eventually wouldn't a good pair of spikes start to sink into the subflooring? I've trying to think of something that I could use as a base, or even make outriggers (remove the stock mounts). But once again it'd have to be spikes. I'd rather not have to get a bracket and bolt the them to the wall, but until I can "discourage" him enough to stop...need some ideas on either building or finding some stable mounts. Just got these and the rest of mine are all wall mounted satellites. Anybody have any experience with spikes? Will I need to worry about time and how long it'll take to wear through the subfloor? Or any other ups/downs? Or even making a base that could be attached to the speakers instead of just "resting" them on something. I thought about a couple marble/stone cutting boards...but again, the speakers would just be sitting on them and still on unstable carpet (and this stuff is the heavy shag...we just moved in). And ya, I've heard all the jokes...spike the cats, get rid of them and get a dog (honestly most dogs aren't much better), etc etc etc. Some REAL help would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Well, the DMV here moves quick...but you spend A LOT of time running around. We had a good six hours into getting new licenses/plates. By the time we did the ID/OD, go to the assessment office (twice). Once for the assessment, second for the waiver. Which btw about gave me a heart attack. I did not know that missouri has a personal property tax on vehicles. So I'll be getting hit next year on car, truck and bike to the tune of about 3k. On the upside, being classified as a 100% disabled vet I get some money off of that. PLUS they throw in a free ($15) personalized plate lol Cheapest state I've EVER lived in for personalized plates...and it's free. But I'll take what I can get.
  15. Solid core are SERIOUSLY heavy. Great to use and will take the weight/abuse over time without starting to sag like some of the particle board based desks. This one is 32" deep and 80" long. But they make them as deep as 36". Wanted to definitely build something to last so that it's not a rebuild a year or two from now. A lot of work to build the frame, heights, leveling, punching holes....but a couple hours into it and it'll be a desk to last for years. Worth it in the long run. Oh ya, he's definitely a PIA at times. Lately his favorite time is when I'm trying to get work done and he's insistent on his cuddle time. After about 3 times of putting him down (and cleaning the cat hair out of my face, he gets the hint and curls up on my lap instead. If I happen to get up for any reason, apparently the seat is forfeit. We've been doing some exploring in the city, of course stopped at Grinders for lunch. Checked out the art district a bit, but other than that, it's mostly been exploring around the northern area. We're off of North Oak, and my son is in school at Fox Hills, so that's the stomping grounds now. Have to admit it's far better being back in 4 seasons and a friendly atmosphere. The south was just too damn hot/humid and the people were apparently miserable/angry at anybody from the outside...let alone a yankee. I've made more potential friends in the 2 weeks here, than I had in 5 years in the south. Interesting going to the DMV though...found out about the personal property tax and just about had a heart attack lol Was NOT expecting something like that. But fortunately we're exempt this year and the next due to our move date. Big bonus and definitely dodged an expensive bullet. Figured there is also quite a bit more to do here as well. Wife has already snagged some royals tickets and took the bike out to explore weston and some of the countryside. Never knew this area had such a huge population of irish...but it's a big bonus. Can actually wear the clan's kilt without having to punch somebody in the face for calling it a "skirt".
