  1. Let's just say I'm loving these new tires 😉

How it started  and how it went...  All that underglow on that 6th Gen V6 Camaro wasn't saving him and that 370Z (with some exhaust work) is basically a 400-500lb lighter version of my car.    Took a while for the Z to catch but he was catching up as he should be with the weight difference.   I will say Mexico is nice this time of year though.

That said,  I've got to check the PSI they put in, as they seem to flex quite a bit more on turns which is not what I expected, at all. Grip is more than restored though and that's with less than 50 miles so it will only improve for a bit from here.

To follow up, PSI was at 35 which is what I typically run in this car on the rears.  I'll judge the perceived sidewall flex more when I have a matching set up front.  I did a hard launch from a dig and this thing hasn't hooked like this in a long time.  Did a u turn at a speed where the back end normally would break loose and it bit it so much more than expected that I almost slid out of my seat.   For a $20 difference per tire I'm sold... so far.

I did not think I was going to understand what the comfort rating is however, first experience is like riding on pillows. The wheel turns so effortlessly. So far, so good.

Just got the rears done on mine today.  I concur, my General G-MAX AS-05's were pretty comfy especially with my tire size of 225/55/17 having plenty of sidewall but these are clearly superior.  Once the front's are swapped it will definitely be a better ride.  That said,  I've got to check the PSI they put in, as they seem to flex quite a bit more on turns which is not what I expected, at all. Only down side is that the G-MAX tires just looked better on the car compared to these but that doesn't matter when the tire that looks 'worse' (subjectively) performs better anyways.

It takes around 1 hour max to change them if you take your time and make sure everything done properly (torqued to spec, copper grease on the hubs, check the PSI, clean them with a rinseless solution, etc).

Plus then you get the excuse to have a change of wheels and a different look.

Also, first wash of the season:

Glad I coated it last year, but the softtop is starting to show its age (nearly 20 years soon). Don't want to think about the cost of replacing it 😬

I've owned this car the longest so far at 3.5 years compared to 3 for my Palio (white) and 2 for my Accord (silver), which is neat. Also, I feel like my cars from here on out will always be brightly or interestingly coloured. The yellow is still really neat, and I don't foresee it getting 'old'.

Look at this guy with his fancy garage not entirely full of junk because your house has no storage space...  😉

I wish I could wash the car in the garage...  let alone keep the car in the garage.  Florida's sun doesn't play and my clearcoat is failing fast.

Doing 50-60 is illegal and is possible in theory, but then I'd have to cut the corner and end up in the loose gravel which would give me far less grip. It's pretty clean in that screenshot, but that screenshot is is from 2017 Street View.

I stick in this blue bit because that's where the most grip is

I probably wouldn't drive on the Contis in temps much below freezing, but they aren't total hockey pucks at 35-45°F.

My area in FL has enough days during the winter that drop into the low 30's which is one of the reasons I haven't run a pure summer tire.  Winter tires are pointless here otherwise so it's a tradeoff.

I know that running season specific tires will always be better than all seasons, but I am not taking the time or energy required to change them. I'll take the performance hit.

This, plus I want to know I can take my car into *most* areas without issue.

Good point, yea. They are the newer Plus XL's. It's a 2020 R-Spec

Yea, so roughly 600-700lbs heavier for my G37.    As someone whose heaviest prior vehicle ever owned was under 3100lbs  (yes even my 1988 Jeep Comanche with an iron block 4.0 Inline 6) it kills me how weight wears down tires so much faster.

I started using the General G-MAX AS-03's back when I had a 2013 Hyundai Accent (2500lbs) and those tires were a great fit for the car.  In fact I was more confident taking some turns in that econobox than I am in the G37 which is clearly a skill / confidence issue, not the cars capability.

Either way, I have been using the G-MAX line ever since but I think this car is just too heavy for their construction.  Hopefully you like the tires, I'm going to pick them up hopefully next week.

Yea, I was looking at those but unfortunately they don't offer anywhere near my requirements in size.  I'm running the smallest setup the car comes with from the factory (225/55 /17).  Downside is having to feather the pedal as needed.. but when it grips the combo of the sidewall flex and lighter tire/rims makes for some pretty nasty launches considering it's rwd with an open diff.  The G-MAX's were pretty good but this last set really does feel like they changed the formula for the worse as even when they were new I was spinning unexpectedly in far too many situations.

I'll be putting on 4 new DWS 06 tires on the Veloster this weekend. I'll let you know how they are.

DWS-06 or the newer 06 Plus?

I'd imagine your Veloster (not sure of year/model) is at least a few hundred pounds lighter than my car but I'm curious to see how it does.

    Cries in 162ft-lb 🥲

My '98 Prelude with the H22A was such a great car, except you had to near redline to have any usable power.   I do miss it at times..  The VQ37VHR in my G37 is also high rpm power (redline is at 7500 w/ peak 330hp at 7000, peak torque of 276ftlbs around 5200) but the torque curve is fairly decent so it's much more usable day to day.

That said, I need new rear tires.. have a chunk/flat spot on the General G-MAX AS-05's already...  Which is funny because when I bought these over the prior AS-05's I had I could tell right away they changed the tire or maybe I just got a bad batch.  They now discontinued the AS-05's and are offering the AS-07's but I think and from what I've read spending the extra $20 per tire and getting some Continental Extreme Contact DWS-06 Plus' is probably worth it.  Being I live in FL I should just go with summer tires but I already spend enough on replacements as is with this boat of a car.

That won't happen with those, but be gentler when you put them on maybe and you won't crack the stem.

To be fair to them, it never broke initially and they did last a good 6 months or so on average.  Some are still fine after near a year.  Perhaps when I put the orings on I damaged them but unless the plastic had hairline cracks in it I missed I just don't see how.  Either way, link to them is below if you wanted to avoid it.

    Brand was "Max Keyboard"

Are you talking about double shot shine through keycaps not lasting?

    https://www.amazon.com/stores/YMDK/page/9C606D0B-C257-4976-AD49-2D0F8F1C19CD?ref_=ast_bln

Go there and search for keycaps. YMDK is cheap and pretty reliable over time. I have a set from them that I've had for at least 5 years and they're like new. They also have a ridiculous selection of colors.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, these are the style I'm looking for.  All my prior ones from different brands seem to break the plastic on the part that goes onto the switch itself (a corner of it will chip off for example and then the key cap wobbles/falls off easily).

  12. I just realized I've had my first mechanical keyboard since 2019...  Don't laugh but it's been rock solid and I don't treat my boards nicely.

Redragon K551 MITRA  - Full size, RED LED only (no rgb) - Outemu Blue switches, changed some keycaps over the years and did the o-ring mod on the keys to quiet it slightly.

    image.png.8c9fc565afa74409d404657725f46665.png

Finally retired it and picked up a Redragon K556 RGB which is basically a much heavier duty version (completely metal) of it with Outemu Brown switches instead.  Also no lip around the board so the switches are exposed and much easier to clean.

    image.thumb.jpeg.0be301f28eeeb43c3273af7e19f4e44c.jpeg

Yea, I know I'm the poor man's entry but after gaming on membrane boards these feel like luxury.  The brown switches are much nicer than the blues, and I've yet to find a red switch that I like.

Also picked up a Magee 96% size keyboard for the GF to finally replace her MS membrane board.  Red switches but they are perfect for her use for typing / school work.  Ironically the RED switches they use feel heavy for reds but are just right as they are not overly sensitive.

Side note, big fan of changing some keys to translucent / smoked but the problem I've found is they never seem to last.  Can anybody recommend a remotely budget friendly but reliable brand?  Realistically only replacing the WASD and Arrows.  Thanks.

    hybrid grip boi

Logitech M510 Wireless - bought it for $5 on Black Friday in ~2010, used it as my main mouse for 5+ years after my OG MX518 died. Still kicking without any issues. Currently my HTPC's mouse.

I used to be a wired mouse snob until I bought a 'cheap' Logitech G305 for $30.  I've bought multiple since as they seem to fit whatever the hell my grip would be called (changes depending on game).  Use these for my main pc's and my laptop.

That said, I've also got multiple M510's as they are a great basic wireless mouse that gets the job done.  Not gonna lie, I do miss my wired G400 at times but the G305 is a better mouse overall.  These are still in use in my HTPC and GF's desktop.

I'm not one to stick to brand's but logitech mice have really been reliable for me overall.

How much weight saved going with those seats?   Still tempted to replace the driver seat only in my G37 with one as the "non-sport" edition seats I have in mine have me relying on the steering wheel and door (with my knee) for stability during remotely fast turns.   Really not wanting to give up too much cruising comfort though.

  15. Fianlly got around to properly fixing my sunroof leak (rerouted the drain tubes to the AC drain line).  It was a real PITA but this is an actual permanent fix vs just replacing the crappy plastic end tube that goes into the firewall (which will fail in time as it's a horrible factory design Nissan never fixed).  It's been raining since last night and won't stop till Monday so if it's completely leak free I'll button it up.  As much as I enjoy the race car look of tons of missing interior panels and exposed floor pans I need to get it back to looking normal.
