Well my 130k mile CX-5 has been throwing a check engine light. Based on the P0172 code "System to rich (bank 1)" but the fact that I can't feel anything wrong with it, its running quite normally, guessing a sensor issue. For the hell of it, I threw a bottle of Techron in my last tank of gas, and since then the CEL has turned off and back on periodically. So I may just run another bottle of that and see what happens.

Really, next up is I'll check/clean the MAF sensor. Been kinda lazy about that.

Be careful with Techron.  In the only two cars I've used it in it destroyed my catalytic converters.   I was agressive with it on my old '13 Hyundai Accent with a direct injection motor and the cats broke up and clogged.  Used it on my G37 and not even a week later the cats broke up, thankfully didn't clog but they are broken up and rattle now.   Perhaps complete coincidence and bad luck but I've heard similar stories from others.

Side note anyone have experience with HAWK HPS pads?  They went out of stock before I could order them and ended up with Stoptech Sport pads and from what I can find they are better but dust a hell of a lot more.  I'm ok with that though as long as the stopping power is worth it.  Don't even track it but the idiots around here are making braking my #1 priority.

  2. Got a few things to buy this black friday -

The oil filter cap seems like a waste of $50... I completely understand... until you try to remove the factory one with your hand when the engine is remotely warm. My Windshield washer fluid cap also mysteriously disappeared on me too recently which is cool. Realistically I also need to add high flow cats to replace my broken up one's but I'm going to need a proper tune after to remove the inevitable CEL.

Side note - Ran a 2016+ Challenger R/T on a fairly fast roll start recently and he couldn't believe I was stock aside drop in air filters. I think he must have had an issue or couldn't drive stick because I beat R/T's but not THAT badly. Then again I never started at that high of mph and those things are bricks as far as aero goes.

Still runs toasty because 14" single fan laptop problems but no more throttling

I swapped the SX8200 into my server and power consumption dropped about 2W idle. Assuming the Pilot doesn't properly utilize ASPM and maybe that's the reason I had 3 die? 🤓

  4. Rolled with a Subaru group tonight for a dinner/cruise.  Vaping confirmed on their end so as an Infiniti owner with a rattling exhaust, fading paint and a drivers door that won't open from the outside  I just put on my monocle and top hat than proceeded to remind them that aside of the modded (& tuned) 2020 STi in the group, they were all slow.  Yes, even the 2023 WRX owners felt the shame.

In all seriousness it was a good time and the jabs were all in fun.   Too bad it started raining of course so my open diff RWD wasn't exactly going anywhere except spinsville if I gave it more than half throttle even on a roll.

I have an SX8200 in my laptop that runs super hot so I'm going to move that to my server, and put that^ in my laptop. Apparently the P31 is super efficient, so maybe no more throttling?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I use the 1tb version of that in my laptop which replaced the OEM SK Hynix 256gb model it came with (can't recall the model but it was not nearly as fast as the P31).  It's been rock solid and I bought it for the same efficiency reasons.  I'm usually a Crucial fanboy as not one of my ssd's from them going back to what, 2011 with my 128gb Crucial M4, has failed thankfully.

Some of the Nvidia cards categories need 1150 socket stuff. I'm using my 4790k for the GTX 275 and SLI 650 Ti Boost runs.

10900 (10 core right?) would work for one of the DDR4 runs I think. Just take a look at the different categories here:

Thanks man, I should have also read the first post, too.

Unfortunately all my Nvidia GPU's are either dead or have been given away.  Come to think of it, that Geforce 4 ti4200 128mb model I have is the only working Nvidia card I have at this point.

10900 is a 10 core yes, not oc'able but will boost to 5.2 and hold 4.6all core.  I think my 11900k will outperform it for any of these tests.  I recently bought a 5775C to replace my 4790k but need to update the BIOS on my z97 board to support it, curious as to how that would do in some of these.

  7. Any room for a 11900k / 10900 (non k) / 4790k / FX-9590 to be useful here?

Looks like my 290X may be useful and I also have a socket 939 opteron 180 and a 1gb of DDR1 c2 500mhz (2x 512mb).  Unfortunately the board I have for it won't oc so it's probably not going to do much good.  Also have my GF4 ti4200 128mb card I can fire up.

Ironically my biggest issues that I only have .iso's and keys for Windows 10 / 11..  Haven't ran any retro system in years.

Loved that keyboard, unfortunately mine died randomly after only two or so years of use.

Contemplated picking up a 16GB A770 at Micro Center just to have one, but still $350, so I am thinking I have better uses for that money. I don't actually need one. I'm also not one who has a collection, but I did think it would be cool to have.

    Maybe when Battlemage releases.

The a380 cost me $120 new from newegg and it's the smaller asrock challenger itx one.  The software alone in that bundle cost more than the gpu and I needed similar software so it more than paid for itself.    Now I just have to get around installing it (and building said pc it will be going into).

  10. Thanks, makes sense.  For now, I actually put the 11900k in my current case just to rule out any oddities during stress testing (I have a Rosewill Thor V2 I've had forever).   Ram temps are ok at 1.5v but if I'm pushing anything more temp sensitive I'm going to wait until I move this rig into the Fractal Torrent case I picked up.

In the meantime, the 11900k w/ an all core at 4.8ghz is performing better in BF2042 than my 10900 at 4.6 all core.  Was really surprised by this as that is one of the few engines/games that enjoys the extra cores.  This cpu get's dumped on all the time but it's really not THAT bad.  Honestly one of the reasons I picked it up was just to test it out myself.   Got a Asrock Steel Legend z590 board + 11900k for barely over $300 new.

  11. Well hello all,

Finally got some new front tires and a replacement passenger rear for the one I just had to hit a nail with (tire only had a few thousand miles on it).  Tires were $112 each vs the normal $142 so I can't complain about the timing.  Going to get that tire patched and put it on the full size spare rim I picked up from the salvage yard for $30.   Same exact rim as stock, but scuffed up.  Far better than rolling on a 10 year old mini spare.

  12. Thanks all for the help.  I believe it was more of a rookie mistake on my part, though my profile in my bios I was using for my 10900 only related to memory settings, it appears to have not been happy using said profile on the 11900k.

Defaulted it and went back in and now it's more on par.  44.5ns is pretty good for an 11900k?

lower NB clock would hurt a bit but 300mhz shouldn't make that big of a difference.

are secondaries/tertiaries set manually or are they on auto? never played with 11th gen though so beyond that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    try updating to 1801?

    TUF Gaming Z590-PLUS WIFI is an Intel® Z590 (LGA 1200) ATX gaming motherboard with 16 DrMOS power stages, PCIe® 4.0, one 64 Gbps M.2 slots, Intel® WiFi 6 and 2.5 Gb Ethernet, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C®...

Thanks, that's a fairly recent bios update as I just updated only a few months ago.   Timings are set manually and the ones that are set to auto are at the same exact timings as I was running on the prior cpu.  Thought it maybe was instability but even dropping the clocks on the ram quite a bit aida64 drops performance accordingly.

Didn't do a fresh install of windows but I've typically never needed to do that with just a drop in upgrade on a recent bios.

Normally I wouldn't care about Aida 64 but some games are showing substantial regression far more than 10th sometimes being faster.  Even lightly threaded games were just matching my 10900 which makes no sense.

Temps are fine with MCE and my D15 & KPX paste.  ABT + MCE that is a whole other story though, they weren't kidding about it running hot.  I can't imagine air cooling is even really feasible with 100% load on something like a 12900k.

Going to try to mess around with it a bit more and see if I can figure this out.  Oddly enough, the cpu install seemed to mess up my AMD gpu driver settings?  Did a fresh install of that too.
