Funny timing, I've just happened to return to the fold as well.

Been folding on and off for the past year, but I started making a more concentrated effort yesterday. Running multiple rigs, but I'll have to see how the heat goes and will probably have to back things off for 24/7 operations, even in the winter.

What's the general feel on folding on CPUs these days? Is there a temp target to shoot for? I have a 9800X3D that might be decent, but it hovers around 90-92C on a 280mm AIO.

Great to be back nonetheless, happy to still see activity here.

There were some serious server issues at folding@home this year. I stopped posting the monthly foldathons because of it. I assume they are back on track so if we have a descent turnout for the [H] competition I'll resume those.

I've been steadily working on rigs getting the PPD up for this event.

The dilemma now being which team to fold under. Since EHW was dying last year, I folded for [H].

CoolGTX just slipped by me the other day, so I'll probably fold for EHW until I retake the #5 spot on our team then switch to [H] for a little bit.

If by some miracle y'all decide to really kick it in gear and we have a chance to place anything other than dead last, I'll throw everything I can at it.

I'll actively promote it on the Azalea City discord and see if we can get a few guests to join.

  3. Week long team challenge. If you can turn on extra machines for team 239902, do so during the last week of January.

No need to join [H]ardForum, but you are welcomed to do so for trash talk purposes.

When: The event will be Jan 24 10AM PST - 31st 10AM PST

I'm going to see what prizes I can put up for EHW, so stay tuned for that.

  4. There is more evidence of the rumored refresh of the 9000 series SKUs. I read about a 9800X3D with higher clocks, and 9950X3D with 3D cache on both chiplets.

This could mean a price cut for existing SKUs soon. I'm also watching the 9800X3D price but I am very patient.

I would love to pitch in and help, but I'm terrified of this stupid 12VHPWR cable lol.  I don't have the money to replace my card if it fries.

I can fire up some other cards here soon though, like in a few weeks. 🙂

Run with lower power limits. It's what I have to do or the house will burn down. I normally fold at 80% GPU clock.

Actually. I cranked it up a bit higher just now. 95% GPU clock speed and CPU limited to 75C on 20 cores. My water temp sensor * itself so I'm flying blind. I was going to replace that this week but I reckon I can wait a few days.

    EVENT START

    How to participate:

During the competition you must be folding for Team 239902

Stats: You can view the stats for the foldathon here: https://ehwfoldingstats.lazypenguin.com

Mind the EVENT START TIMER as it is UTC time zone.

Folding is stressful on hardware, and will often break an overclock unless it's been tested with folding. I do not recommend overclocking high end GPUs as the power draw can be extreme while folding. If anything, try tuning for energy efficiency. Casualties happen and EXTREMEHW can not be held accountable if you destroy your hardware while folding.

I'll obviously be folding... How crazy depends on if we get a cool weekend.

Been lucky the last couple weeks have been lower temps although near constant rain. Like only high 90-95F though still 75-85F lows. Had a break in the rain yesterday so I took the dingos to swim in the creek and the water actually felt cool around 75F so that was really nice...as I'm watching for gators.
