  1. Are you running the CFP headless or will it be connected to a monitor? I use ubuntu and can forward you all my notes on setting up 18.04, but my rigs are connected to a monitor so I havent done a headless setup yet.
  2. Yes a lot of planning has gone into the network project, but thankfully I have plenty of time to get it all up and running. Its really gratifying being able to upgrade and maintain your own home. Here in the states some areas have basement others do not. In my area its more common than not, regardless of house size or price tag. In Florida you wont see many if any, because of the water table. In Arizona there is some old law where the ground is not yours or something so you are not allowed to have a basement. Yes I was lucky to find a house with a basement and the 2 car garage after the market crashed over here and the interest rates were at their lowest. It was all just good timing, because we just had our first child and we really needed something larger than our 1 bedroom apartment.
  3. I was lucky to buy a house with a basement, so the folding rigs are down there and stay cool most of the year anyway. I just upgraded the electrical down there and finished running the ethernet too. Before it was just a bunch of cables and extension cords all over the place. I had to run more ethernet for my wife since she is working from home and the wifi isnt the best, so she got a brand new wall connection in her "office" i.e. our bedroom. I only have 1 free port left on my 8 port switch, so next will be an upgraded wifi router, proper switch and patch panel setup because as the kids get older I will have to wire their rooms as well. Just turned on my gaming rig and switched the other 2 rigs over to EHW folding. See you at the finish line!
  4. Recently upgraded my interwebs and lowered my monthly payment at the same time.
  5. I just saw that, nice job guys. Most likely sub 400s looking at the points right now. The next foldathon will definitely put a dent in both catagories.
  6. IN...you can opt me out for a prize this round though.
  7. What is the server IP? It should be in the log. 3 or 4 servers were reset in the last 3-5 hours so it may have just been a bad connection.
  8. I honestly dont know I have never tried a VM, but based on what I have read in the past your PPD will increase but maybe not as much as a pure Linux OS. I have heard of some people running Linux off a USB for a sudo dual boot rig. That would give you a chance to test it out to see if you like it. I long for the day that you can at least get to BIOS with any chip that fits in the socket.... I know there are different pin layouts and junk but seriously you shouldnt have to borrow a CPU to do a BIOS update.
  9. If you chose Ubuntu stay away from 20.04LTS for now. I tried it on one of my new rigs and it was nothing but headaches, stick with 18.04. I have setup 2 rigs on Ubuntu now and I can pass along all my notes for those if you go that route. EDIT: I am seeing a decent PPD boost between the 1070 in my Ubuntu rig vs the 1070(clocked 50Mhz faster) in my Win10 rig any where from 30-100k depending on the project, so for a dedicated rig Linux is still the way to go.
  10. That was plenty long enough, between a lack of WUs, switching my GPU over to a BOINC project and then back to the "other" team for their FaT, my contribution here was less than I hoped. I will soon be retooling my rigs so that I can contribute here a little more consistently.
