How to remove read-only attribute from Forza Motorsport 7 folder's in D:\WindowsApps?

 

When I turn it off, it just turns itself back on.  I need to restore my backup so I don't have to download all 100GB of the game again.

I took ownership of the folder & used Acronis True Image to recover the Forza Motorsport 7 folders from my backup of C:\Program Files\WindowsApps to D:\WindowsApps.  Although after I did that & proceeded to install the game from the XBOX app, it didn't detect the recovered files/folders & is just installing it fresh.  Why?  Why can I recover to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps & the install detects the recovered files on the C:\ drive but not the D:\ drive?

 

*Update*

Got it working.  Took ownership of D:\WindowsApps, deleted the folder.  Created a new WindowsApps folder then recovered my Forza Motorsport 7 backup to the D:\WindowsApps location then installed the game on XBOX app on Windows 11 home edition x64.  At first it gave error messages, but at the bottom it said it was ready to play, so now it's working.

Just fixed it, the trick is setting the owner of the D:\WindowsApps to TrustedInstaller.

By the way I don't recommend running Forza on a HDD because I was getting continuous hitching & stuttering while racing which is so annoying!  So I since installed the game on the C:\ drive & had to change the Owner again but this time it had to be entered like this :

Thanks for the tip! I only use HDD's for file storage mainly. Cannot recall the last time I installed anything on a HDD. How times have changed.

getting forza to work from backup is a real pita because now i cant change the owner of WindowsApps to NT Service\TrustedInstaller because it keeps saying access denied.  Know of a good app that can control permissions and security in windows like a backup and restore permissions app?

 

Do you know how to write a simple .bat file or something similar to take ownership in context menu but that changes WindowsApps to NT Service\TrustedInstaller owner?

I wanted to mention that I found a better solution to backing up & restoring Forza games on PC or any WindowsApps app by first taking ownership of WindowsApps, then backup the apps folders within WindowsApps using Acronis.  Then to restore first just begin downloading the game or app again like 10-150MB or however much u feel like then pause, proceed to take ownership of WindowsApps then restore then run WindowsAppsUnfukker, because it saved me so much time!  You can fix all the permissions so fast using this script.  Once the permissions are fixed and after u restored ur app or game, then just simply start the download again & it'll proceed to install the game or app which took 30 minutes on a Samsung evo 970 m.2 nvme ssd for Forza 7 on a AMD Ryzen 5 3550h.  It took over an hour to install on my AMD A8-7410 with 256gb 2.5" ssd.  Since it limits the install speed to 35MB/s on the 2.5" ssd & on the nvme ssd I think it was only going 125MB/s.
