....I saw that yesterday. I think it is entirely possible that AMD will spring a 'surprise' performance monster such as the '7990XT/X' as part of a refresh after the initial release. Good 6900XTs are already around 2900 MHz on ambient cooling in some apps, so the clocks for the 7900/7990 after a die shrink could indeed be up there per vid. My '4N' 4090 has already peaked at 3210 MHz (light 3D load), though since I also use it for work, I haven't gone completely crazy with it.

...the AMD desktop card monster I would like to see is a consumer version of the Instinct mi250 dual core server card (below, current price around $8,000 )...give it a few years and we might see a similar RDNA3x dual-core version w/o HBM.

I would love a Dual Die Gpu. But since Crossfire/Sli death the support of multigpu is kinda dead. 😞

But yea i don't think AMD will just release the 7900xtx they will have something better for sure!

Just going by historical releases I would have said this is likely. After they release the current gens "Flagship" GPU, its usually followed by a refresh or simply an amped up version of the flagship.

Nvidia are Pro's at that. Such as the "Ti" variants of a flagship card.

So far as dual GPU, I would love to see a dual die effort hit the consumer space. Dual GPU is dead for sure but dual die could really give an uplift without all the dual gpu hickups... hopefully.

On a side note, at least AMD is willing to toss buyers a bone if they buy the last gen graphics card new unlike Nvidia who wants to throw a new last gen card out for buyers that's actually worse than the others it already had. https://www.amd.com/en/gaming/raise-the-game             Get up to 2 games when you buy select AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics cards* Who will you be? Jacob Lee plotting an escape from the horrors of Black Iron Prison in The Callisto Protocol™? Or the ultimate zombie slayer in Dead Island™ 2? The Callisto Protocol™ comes with a digital skin, a special character and weapon skin inspired by AMD Radeon™.

I would love to go AMD if they were on the same level as Nvidia productivity wise. Perhaps on my next upgrade I will consider an AMD GPU as Nvidia pricing is getting a little out of hand and perhaps it will be a decent tradeoff.

Well historical release was just different. They came out with the 4090 first, that's the flagship. At this stage the 4080 is an overpriced mid-tier chip based card which will likely get replaced with a cutdown AD102 based card as the Ti variant. At least that's my prediction. AD102 cut down slightly from 4090 and likely to be 320-bit 20GB.

Historically they usually launched the 80-card first and then later brought the 80 Ti, and it was usually of similar price or maybe marginally more expensive and then the 80 card would have a price drop, until the 20-series changed things.

GTX 780 launch price: $649, GTX 780 Ti launch price: $699

GTX 980 launch price: $549, GTX 980 Ti launch price: $649

GTX 1080 launch price: $599 ($699 FE), GTX 1080 Ti launch price: $699

With the 20-series launch, they announced the 2080 Ti right along with the 2080 and 2070 right from the start. 30-series comes along and they instead have the 3090 and the 3080/3070. 40-series, they functionally announced the same thing (just with the two 4080's debacle), the only difference was that there was no pretending the 4080 was a "flagship" this time.

Don't forget they did that whole Relaunch of the 20- series with the Supers less than a year after the original cards launched. Piss'd me off all to hell when they did that.

Oh yeah. Not surprising though. All one had to do was look at how they shifted chip tiers again where suddenly the 2070 was on the x06 die instead of x04 like it had been since Kepler. That made it more like a 2060 really (and we see that as the truth with the 2060 Super functionally being a 2070). Once AMD released anything slightly competitive with it, it had to be replaced with a TU104 based card which everyone knows is what the 2070 should have been to begin with. 20-series was atrocious in how little Nvidia wanted to give for the $$$ at launch.
