it looks like Intel is going to go with 6 P-Cores + 8 E-Cores and that sounds big dumb

I heard that rumor too, and if that's true it would be very bad..
8p = good points and a lot of fun on the bot, and for the main I'd stick with the 13900k(s/f).

On paper, asymmetric cores such as P + E make sense, but in practice, there will always be the scheduler issues with some apps, given all the legacy baggage Windows carries. I prefer symmetric setups because of that. Also, I use systems for both work and play and the 7950X3D makes huge sense to me at the price (compared to for example a 7/5995 Threadripper Pro). For gaming and some benchies, I would simply disable one or the other CCX in the 7950X3D and thus end up with a symmetric setup if needed.

I'll be nice and just simply say I am not a fan of the E core crap lol.  I've been using my old 10900k for the past month.  Thou shalt never take down the 10 "p" core beast.  So glad AMD is sticking to the P core only route as well.  Whatever Orion buys I'm gonna copy 😄  no pressure.

...well, caution is advisable because I like pizza with pineapple, anchovies and Canadian back bacon 😋

...I am far from having done any serious research on X670E, but for performance-benching-gaming only, I fancy the Asus Crosshair Gene, or something equivalent from MSI or Gigabyte. That said, I am more likely going to go with a semi-productivity mobo with decent oc capabilities. Like my current X570 Dark Hero, it should also come with dual ethernet - something like the Asus X670E ProArt may be which has 10 Gb and 2.5 Gb ethernet, DynamicOC and a few other tricks and bits

I have 0 use for more than 1 ethernet or more than one slot for GPU.  Maybe the gene would be ideal.  But I just saw even that is $450.  Sick of these ridiculous prices on things that used to be $250.

Yeah tell me about it. This Dark Hero board is the most I have ever spent on a motherboard ever. And the only reason (at the time) I went with this board was because I did not want the stupid little chipset fan most X570 boards had.

That said, has been a fantastic board with great overclocking features like the Dynamic OC Switcher, but yeah still stings a bit having paid what...$450+tax for it, which looking at X670 boards, seems to be cheap these days. 😂

For my use cases, dual ethernet is a must - I only recently 'returned' from exclusively building HEDT with an eye on work/productivity apps (HEDT market is sort of dead - for now). But yeah, pricing has gone 'silly'.  My Crosshair X570 Dark Hero is currently C$ 120 more than what I paid for it at the same retailer where I bought it.

I wonder what Gigabyte will charge for the new B650E Tachyon - it competes with the X670E Crosshair Gene but should be a bit more affordable. It has some nifty features re. DDR5 oc'ing and VRM

...btw, if anyone runs across DDR5 Dual_Rank 7200 32GB A-die or higher per stick, please post a link here. I realize that the 7950X3D's IF may not go that high, but I usually settle on just one type of RAM per RAM gen (not AMD or Intel specific) as I like to 'mix and match' down the line re. AMD and Intel workstations as well.

I was looking a little more into it.  The pro-art has some really bad memory issues.

MSI carbon is nice.   However.......I think the Taichi is looking quite nice.

You'll get 1 LAN and like it.  lol

They all act like they need bios updates.  Taichi's last official bios was october so I'm not sure what to think of that.   Looking deeper the MSI Carbon and even the Hero is same story so maybe I shouldn't care.

Well so far...........not looking like you've got many options.  Noticed it a lot yesterday on board names that used to be dual LAN and now they aren't anymore.  I'm still working on the spreadsheet 🤤

Every mobo I bought since 2014 has dual LAN 😩, whether Intel HEDT, AMD TRs or X570...Below in the pic are two, ahem, cases with four mobos, six GPUs and 8x LAN, and apart from needing dual LAN (re. productivity) I also don't plan to downgrade though I may have to eat my words later...

For now, I am going to try to find more third-party info on the Asus X670E Creator ProArt; I know you don't seem to like it re. RAM, but with 7950X3D coming out, they'll get a new bios anyways...besides, I have a secret plan 🤭

I just saw someone mention ram, I don't OC ram so I didn't care, and technically that board does meet my criteria too lol.  But so does the B650E Taichi and for $369 that might be better.  Plus 24 phases i mean the things a cheap beast.

...I do oc RAM (to a reasonable level, coz: rabbit holes) but sometimes, Asus bios can lag behind for the boards with lower sales volume. In any case, I am not lacking compute resources right now, so I can afford the time to wait a bit for both 7950X3D and related mobo reviews.
