So intel finally will release the new "X" series CPU with W790 platform.  If you look at the model chart shown, there will be 8 models for HEDT release.  My question is obviously it will be rather pricey platform, but should I hold off on buying the 13900KS coming out in a few days to see what the prices of those cus are and what the motherboard options will be like?  Also are these cpu's using raptor lake cores?  are these cpus ALL P-Cores// OMG that would be just so freaking amazing!  Whats your thoughts here.... think the X series cpus will OC decent???  Appreciate any feedback

** EDIT...  I think I found the answer. they use golden cove cores ...  Not so sure I want this.  Isnt this the same cores that 11th gen used?

The entire Intel Sapphire Rapids-WS Xeon Workstation CPU lineup has leaked out in addition to the W790 'Fishhawk Falls' platform details.

I don't think performance will be that great. Their some leak of full P core cpu with like 30 + core. But the 13900k is already impossible to cool down.

For gaming the 13900ks or 7950x3d will stay superior. For other task i have no idea.  The 64-128 core threadrippper arent that much faster than a 13900k or 7950x.

I've thought about upgrading from X99 to this new W790 platform, but it just doesn't seem worth it unless you need some really niche workstation features like IO-MMU.

Main reason I went with X99 was the PCIe lanes, and now with PCIe 5.0 it doesn't really seem to matter much to me now that SLI and Crossfire is gone. Z790 motherboards offer a full x16 speed PCIe 5.0 slot and 2 or 3 x4 PCIe 4.0 slots. PCIe 5.0 hasn't even started to be used in recent GPUs yet, and doubt it's going to be a bottleneck for a long time, plus the x4 bandwidth of those PCIe 4.0 slots is more than enough for a second GPU or WiFi card etc.

I'm still waiting to see if there is a refresh of Raptor Lake, or if they are just going to release Meteor Lake, DDR5 is still overpriced for the performance gain you get.

I had to look it up to be honest, Golden Cove according to Wikipedia was the P core of the 12th gen which would make sense. Usually the HEDT Intel platforms came out after the standard desktop variant had been released, something like 1 or 2 gen behind but with more cores and more cache. It's going to be interesting to see how these CPUs stack up. I'm confident the performance will be there but skeptical of the value. Either way, I hope to pick these up second or third hand someday for a project 😅
