NASA has given Nokia and over a dozen other companies a portion of $370 million as part of its 2020 NASA Tipping Point competition, as originally reported by Mashable. This is the fifth Tipping Point competition and one of the highlights of this latest edition was the $14.1 million awarded to Nokia so that the cellphone company can build a 4G cellular network on the moon.

"Inspired by terrestrial technology, Nokia proposes to deploy the first LTE/4G communications system in space," a blog post about this year's Tipping Point reads. "The system could support lunar surface communications at greater distances, increased speeds, and provide more reliability than current standards."
