  1. Which speakers? I wonder if the anniversary editions will retain the classic sound or just be new speakers with heavy bass in the same chassis. I like retro looking things.

My dad has a really nice looking Marantz receiver (4300?).. I forget what speakers and there's also another amp and analog EQ.. I don't think it would be well received by the modern electronic music crowd because it sounds so "warm". To me it's a beautiful sound when you hear the full gamut instead of airy bumping bass and flared out treble. Could be how he keeps the EQ set though but I always could tell the difference when he had that on.

I'm no audio expert either, just have spoiled ears since I got my first pair of sennheiser cans back in 2002. Headphones always tend to sound way better than many thousand dollar stereos to me.

Both the JBL's and the Bose's. I did some research and found out the cost of those speakers on Ebay, was shocked, and opted to hook them up to my desktop lol.

Allegedly, the 4312SE (Anniversary Edition) sounds pretty damned close to the original, but I have yet to hear them in person.

  2. Crazy setup simmons!

I don't blame dad for wanting to keep the old stereo... My dad has a setup from ca 1983 that he worships too. Time for college grads to get out there and buy their own 2019 high end stereo :p

Right? The thing was, those speakers were in closet storage for a while because my mother didn't like looking at them.

I adore the sound signature of these things, and I found out that JBL put out an anniversary edition version of these speakers a little while back with updated controls for the crossovers, so I may have to invest in those before long. Don't really know much about head units (yet), so I will need to also invest in a head unit which can power two pairs of speakers for if I decide to do a multizone configuration in the future, similar to what I have have with the crossover'ed Bose 301 II's.

This audio stuff is really fascinating, but man is there a lot to learn.

  3. It's a great car. Finally eliminated the rattle a couple months back, piece of debris was stuck in the exhaust heat shield. In addition, we fully rebuilt the AC system, so the car is basically good as new, minus the rear driver side door.

When I do eventually get the Type R, I am not getting rid of this thing.

  4. Gee, the new $400-500 Console does not have the same graphics horsepower as a $550-750 Desktop GPU.

Yeah not fond of this article. It has been an industry standard that hardware performance is sacrificed in order to lower the console price to an acceptable level, in order to get the console into more people's homes. Not really a whole lot more to say about that lol.

  5. It's definitely a liberating experience being able to get a fully loaded desk. Admittedly, the speakers and head units are my fathers, so those won't be able to go with me when I do finally get the boot, but at least I get to enjoy them while I can.

Site is looking great so far mate :)

  6. Hey everyone! This is Simmons, or more commonly known as Simmons572 on most platforms. (Man it's great to actually get this username for once!)

Funny enough, shortly before I learned about EHW, I just finished moving my desk out of my bedroom into a more permanent location.
