  1. You may need to update the bios to your GPU. Some AMD 500 series GPUs actually won't work in newer systems without a bios update. I ran into the same issue myself and it was definitely confusing at first. I think this is what you need: https://www.amd.com/en/support/gpu-firmware-download
  2. I wonder if the RT performance will improve over time, or work better/worse in different implementations. Currently all the ray tracing games are RTX which means Nvidia only so we only have the 3Dmark score to look at, which if I'm not mistaken is purely reflections and not GI-RT. RT reflections are nice but so far all the games I've seen that use them seem to over-use it almost like they're a tech demo for RT reflections. WD Legion seems like a great example of that. If performance was more on par when using ray tracing for GI instead of reflections, that would definitely change the situation but for now it seems like the RT performance is disappointingly far behind. Being worse in full path tracing than a 2080Ti (which has pretty weak RT performance anyway) makes RT seem like a non existing feature for AMD right now because with that kind of performance it's just not practical to use it. Separate from that though, it will be really interesting to see how performance scales when titles start using more Vram or using more advanced features like some of the stuff we saw in the UE5 demo. It seems like we don't really have any true next gen titles to look at yet. Everything "next gen" right now is just the same type of games as last gen but with RT added in. One thing that was interesting was in the gamers nexus review they point out that AMD has better frame time consistency and generally better 1% lows.
  3. The surface go has a really weak cpu. Totally different experience on a surface pro. Heck a surface pro 3 or anything above is fast enough to play games like bf4.
  4. Get one used. I just got a surface pro 4 i5 version in perfect condition on eBay for $200.
  5. I've done sli a few times, a long time ago. I think back then sli support was at it's peak and even then the results were disappointing far too often. It was amazing when it worked well but even at its peak that was far from guaranteed. I think it was a smart move for Nvidia to stop marketing it to gamers, even if it's still technically an option in some games, simply because it doesn't work well enough to be a selling point especially with gpu prices being so much higher now compared to when sli was more common.
  6. Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/microsoft-eying-directml-as-dlss-alternative-on-xbox.html Based on the single image, the results looks really good. I'd love to see DLSS die off and get replaced with this.
  7. Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-talks-about-zen-4-already.html Looking to 5nm already. Very cool.
  8. Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/87567-rumored-999-rtx-3080-ti-launch-january-take.html This wouldn't be a surprise at all. Personally I'm not in the market for a $1000 GPU. I'll likely be getting the 6800 when it's available. Seems to have the best specs for the price.
  9. Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/87568-smoking-xbox-series-x-videos-fake-microsoft-warns.html Kinda funny news.
  10. I remember when this was on shark tank. Bet the sharks are glad they didn't invest now.
  11. Once a long time ago when I was working a remote support job, I had been remote connected to this old guys PC who had a virus..I had the finished removing the virus and so I called rh customer to let him know I was done and his computer good to go. I was still remote connected at this point and while I was on the phone with the customer he went to his computer and typed "hand jobs" into google, clicked a link and started playing a video. He was apparently testing how s computer to make sure it worked normally with the stuff he wanted to use it for again. I guess he also did not realize I was still connected to his PC while I was on the phone with him.... So I disconnected and hung up without saying anything. Have at least two other remote support stories just like that.
  12. I'm sure I have some dumb mistakes but atm I can't think of any good ones that I caused but I had a customer the other day who brought me a desktop PC for repair. It was a middle aged woman with no PC knowledge and she had figured the PC was too loud because the fans inside were dusty, so she took it upon herself to remove the CPU heatsink to clean it, but she didn't use the latch on the heatsink and rather unscrewed the mount that the heatsink latches on to and then didn't reattach it after, so the heatsink was just hanging there by a loose screw and she had no idea what the issue could be. Turned out her hard drive was failing. ?
  13. Oh haha I guess that answers my question. I didn't watch the video before, just assumed it was the same results as the last ten times I've seen this test. Very interesting.
  14. My stocks have been pretty crazy today, not in the way I would have expected. Two of my stocks that seemingly don't tie to covid a whole lot went down substantially while my tech stocks barely moved. I have a few stocks I bought low expecting them to jump up with the end of covid and they went up but barely. Also, let's hope the quarantine last long enough for us to play cyberpunk.
  15. Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/87521-news-covid-19-vaccine-90-effectiveness-sees-pandemic.html Some extremely good news! Not purely tech news but news that impacts us all.
  16. Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/87504-fortnite-reportedly-return-iphones-nvidia-geforce-now-web.html Seems like they should have done some kind of web based client sooner.
  17. I've seen a lot of these 2 vs 4 stick tests but I don't get why they even do them. There's never really any difference since it's dual channel either way, unless I'm missing something.
  18. I just bought this the other day: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07L6GF81L?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Seemed like a pretty good price/performance deal.
  19. source: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/ghost-recon/breakpoint This is kind of obscure news but the main reason I am posting this is I've found this story to be really interesting. Ubi had huge expectations for this game and they rushed it out as a looter shooter when the previous game wasn't that way at all, and people hated it. Not only that but there were a lot of other issue with the game. Ubisoft is really the only game dev with a good track record of fixing broken releases with serious gameplay changes and this is looking to be another situation like that. It's unique to see a dev basically admit they messed up and backtrack on a lot of gameplay features with a relatively new title.

  21. Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/the-source-code-for-hacking-game-watch-dogs-legion-has-seemingly-been-hacked We heard you like hacking games so we hacked your game about hacking! Guess this game is basically single player now.
  22. Not ray traced. They did mention at some point they plan to add it in but I don't really see why they would need to for this game. The GI is already so good, and there aren't really reflective surfaces besides water but SSR works really well for that in a game like this. Curious if this game can use both cards vram in sli since it's DX12? Sort of a side rant about ray tracing here, I'm starting to think it's pretty overrated. I think the best usage of it so far was in metro where it was used for better global illumination instead of reflections, but to that point I think SVOGI basically achieves the same GI results so even when used for GI, RT feels overly heavy handed. I just started playing WD legion and clearly they wanted that game to have a lot of reflections with or without RT. Since I have a 1080ti I can't do the RT but even without it I can't imagine the reflections being more crisp would really improve the visuals outside of situations where the player stands still just to admire the reflections specifically. Infact I think when the reflections are as crisp as they usually are in RT games, they look unnaturally clean and mirror like. I'm sure things will improve over time but I'm just as excited about things like HBAO+ and SVOGI lighting effects becoming standards, not to mention the UE5 lighting effects yet to come which also are not based on RT hardware effects.
  23. Yea, price going down for SSDs in general plus memory being really cheap right now.. could see prices actually being higher 6 months from now.
  24. I just bought watch dogs legion, and a 1tb nvme drive rated for 3400mb/s for $120. Nvme drives are so cheap right now, wasn't planning to get one but it's a good time to buy them.
