  1. Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/you-will-lose-all-your-oculus-games-if-you-delete-your-linked-facebook-account Looks like the exact kind of issues people were worried about when facebook acquired oculus are now very real.
  2. Just adding a thought to this, think about Steam OS. When it launched, microsoft didn't do anything to try to stop it or sway PC makers away from it, but since developing an OS people actually want to use is such a monumental task, steam OS simply failed on its own. The reason microsoft dominates the PC OS market is mostly because they were literally the first software company ever. They were the first ever software company and they invented operating systems. They have such a massive head start for something that is extremely hard to do, but those factors alone don't make it a monopoly.
  3. Do you have a real example of Microsoft eliminating any linux software as you describe? Also, and I cannot over state this... PC makers buy windows from Microsoft. Microsoft does not pay them to use windows, as alphabet does with google.
  4. This is a tech site and the products they sell would be relevant. In this case, only the fact that AOC used twitch at all is relevant. I'm not arguing that politics have nothing to do with the topic at all, I'm saying since this site is not for political discussion (and I assume that is against the rules) just don't do it here. I wouldn't have even posted this here if the news hadn't been slow at the time because there are almost always a few of you who just can't wrap your head around the concept of keeping politics to a minimum on a site like this.
  5. No fool, political discussion has always been against the rules on OCN and I am assuming it's the same here. I'm just trying to follow the rules. It's not complicated.
  6. Again, the existence of a free OS for desktop kills any PC OS monopoly argument. If people wanted to use a different OS, there is nothing stopping them from installing linux.
  7. Since the news I've seen about it has mostly been from tech sites, and all I've seen them talk about is the streaming numbers and how quickly her channel got subscribers, clearly it's not that hard. Not really much science in this topic either way... You know, if you don't see how this topic could possibly be commented on without talking about your political preferences, just don't comment and let this thread die. Why is this so complicated? There are more comments here just saying they can't handle the topic without making it political than anything else.
  8. I think the reason why 32GBs gives a performance boost is because 32GBs of ram is the point at which windows stops using a portion of the hard drive as a cache pool, so the windows page file is stored in ram. Going from 32 to 64 GBs probably wouldn't change anything.
  9. You know you don't actually have to comment at all but to answer your question again, the twitch event/steaming numbers are the topic.
  10. Talking to you is like talking to a wall. You ignore answers to your questions and just restate the same things over again. I remember you doing this on OCN as well.
  11. Because the video game market is full of lots of different competitors, Microsoft is no where near having a monopoly. Mobile is the largest gamin platform technically and Microsoft isn't even a part of that at all. If they kept buying all the video game studios until they owned so much of the market that they were able to control the market behavior, then they would be doing something wrong but it's just no where near that point. Also, Windows is not even the most prevalent OS anymore, android is. Microsoft remains much larger than google because they have made a lot of smart moves to diversify their business so they no longer rely on very heavily on any one product or tech market for revenue, which is a big reason why they are such a good company to invest in these days. Windows only makes up ~13% of their profits now. They have a hand in lots of different jars but other than the PC OS market specifically they don't really command/control any markets by throwing their weight around. As for the PC OS market, the mere fact that linux exists as a free alternative pretty much invalidates any argument that Microsoft has a monopoly there, and the OS market is a little different because we all benifit greatly from having wide familiarity and compatibility across devices.
  12. Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-ryzen-5-5600x-takes-the-lead-in-passmark-single-thread-scores.html Wonder how long AMD will be able to hold the crown.
  13. Digital vs analog definitely matters though. You will never get as clean of sound from a pc with a sound card because of the electrical interference, then you have to worry about the wires going from the pc to the receiver being thick enough/shielded from any additional interference. All of that goes away with hdmi, and the only time you have analog is from the receiver to the speakers. Not to mention the dac in a receiver is going to be better than that in a sound card 99% of the time.
  14. Microsoft is actually very much not that way. They take obvious steps and measures to keep from stepping on people's toes in those kinds of ways. Expanding their gaming division with a some purchase is not even a little bit of an anti trust issue since the video game industry is highly competitive and they're doing nothing to prevent anyone else for competing. Microsoft is actually a great example for other companies to look on how to be a giant company without getting into any anti trust issues. They definitely learned from their mistakes.
  15. That's simply not true. And a little beside the point. I think what I'm saying here is easily understood, there is no reason to debate me on it. Just don't turn this thread into a thread about any political preferences at all, keep it neutral politically and just talk about the twitch event. Simple enough.
  16. Yea that will definitely matter as well.
  17. Tldr. HDCP is not the right term, you're right, but still want I am referring to is 4k hdmi level audio quality which is different than standard hdmi. Writing an essay about this won't change what one can hear clearly with their own ears. Using a 4k hdmi audio setup is just about there best option available in terms of signal quality is my only point. There are lots of reasons for this.
  18. OK, fair but I think flight sim is one of those games that had a lot of settings that push the GPU really hard for a highly diminishing return. There are a few settings that you really just don't need maxed out to get nearly the best visual experience possible. For example you can set the detail render distance pretty far in this game, lowering that one notch saves a ton on performance and is barely noticeable especially if you're just looking at the clouds anyway. I have a mix of mostly high settings with clouds and maybe on or two other things set to ultra @4K with 80% render scaling and TAA. I've been using xbox game par to take screens shots since I have the xbox game pass version. I guess it takes two screens shots, one in HDR and one not in HDR whenever I make one, but the HDR ones are .jxr format and I cannot upload them here.
  19. Yea, that didn't really need to be stated. Obviously I know you can't plug HDMI into a speaker. Not sure how you could have been lead to believe otherwise by anything I said. My point is that if you can get you're audio setup to be fully HDCP 2.2 compatible, which requires 4K HDMI, the sound will be better vs that which you would get from a sound card assuming the receiver being used is the same either way. I have tried this myself before, and it was really nice but ultimately I preferred having the settings/control that my sound card gives me.. well that and the the reciver I used was a little glitchy with a PC/windows at the time. The difference when listening to a super high quality audio file like a FLAC or watching a very high quality surround sound movie file with HDCP 2.2 vs a DAC style PCIe device is just leagues away, the difference is very apparent, to me at least.
  20. I think you basically need to find a receiver that has the features you would want from your sound card if you want to go full hdmi and still have some customizable options. That said, I suspect that the new 120hz 4k hdmi 2.1 standard will require a receiver that fully supports hdmi 2.1 so now would be a bad time to start investing in a receiver setup anyway.
  21. You need to improve your reading comprehension skills instead of just arguing with yourself over something that you just made up in your head. No one here is defending AOC. If you said Trump can only get votes by wearing pink shirts, I would say that's obviously not true since he has already won office and never did it with any pink shirts. The same applies to what you're saying here. A politician setting records on twitch and being the first instance of a politician using twitch to actually stream a game is an interesting topic from a numbers perspective. Has nothing to do with AOC specifically. If a different politician had done this, it would still be interesting, unlike any of your commentary.
  22. Source: https://www.techspot.com/news/87240-ea-faces-another-class-action-lawsuit-over-loot.html This is way overdue. Hopefully more countries will follow suit and sue EA for illegal gambling practices.
  23. You quoted "she can only get votes by going on twitch" and said "yup, this" to paraphrase. It's a silly thing to say about someone who clearly has won an election before without doing a twitch stream. Since the very first point you tried to parrot is totally inaccurate, your commentary is pointless. I'm only telling you to stop making it political. Calling me a simp for that is just childish. I've said nothing good or bad about AOC myself here.
  24. Microsoft had to agree to new rules and regulations. They lost the anti-trust suite but they were able to avoid a forced company break up.
