  1. This article doesn't do a good job of explaining the details of this leak very well. The leak really comes from a voice actress who put "project white sands" on her resume. She definitely did some voice work for Valve. There's a bit more to it than just that, but but that's probably the most concrete part of this. I actually think it's likely to be true that project white sands is a new HL game. Valve did say some 4-5 years ago that they were refocusing on game development and planned to make some single player games. They haven't said anything about it since then, but many assume the team that made Alyx started working on a new single player project after Alyx was finished. Valve has worked on HL3 at least twice before, and canceled those projects. So even if this is a real HL3 leak, I that doesn't mean Valve will release anything.
  2. AMD Rumored to Increase TDP of 65W Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X to 105W WWW.GURU3D.COM AMD is expected to increase the thermal design power (TDP) of its Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X processors...
  3. Google has always engaged in unfair competition practices. While I don't know all the history of how Google Chrome became so dominant, it's Google... For sure there was some shady stuff going on. Google doesn't do fair competition. Their strategy has always been to look for ways to force users into their ecosystem and then make it as hard as possible for other platforms to be compatible with whatever Google is doing.
  4. https://www.techspot.com/news/104196-intel-arrow-lake-consume-100w-less-power-than.html Sounds like the GPUs are still on the books.
  5. I disagree that Google is "better" for search. I just used edge, and Bing by default. I feel like Bing actually works better for searches because Microsoft is less invested in wasting people's time to ensure a certain amount of monetizable clicks. Google is still better for map searches just by sheer volume of people with Google maps listings vs Bing, but for everything else I don't think Google is actually doing anything at a higher quality level than the competition. If I actually need to find the answer to a random question/search, I genuinely think Bing is better most of the time. One thing I like about Bing is they stopped using Yelp for map/reviews. Yelp, like Google, is just a bidding war for marketing tration and Microsoft doesn't want that to be how their search works, it seems.
  6. Personally, there is a zero percent chance I would have ever bought one of the full power 95c 7000 CPUs. I hated that design logic, running up to max temp and then throttling down, having giant liquid coolers that give you the same temps but maybe a tiny bit more performance... it just felt wrong. It's disappointing that there isn't a more tangible performance increase, but this is still a great step in the right direction, and arguably these CPUs are cheaper than the 7000 series for a new build because they'll work with a standard hyper 212 style cooler and don't need a big $100+ liquid cooler.
  7. Skimmed through the GN video. Interesting results for sure. the 9700X has some clear wins in certain productivity tasks, but it often gets beat by the 5700X3D in gaming, which is about half the price of a 9700X. Then power and thermal differences vs the 7700X are kinda insane though, and a clear win there. GN had it running at 50c under full load vs 95c for the 7700X. I wonder if AMD might release some 9000XT-esk models later on with higher power and thermal limits. I also wonder if these low power 9000 CPUs will have more OC headroom.
  8. Some odd variations for sure. Even still though, DF is noting the same performance oddities.
  9. True, but the difference here is basically nothing. Some of the benchmarks even show the 9700x behind the 7700x.
  10. https://www.techspot.com/review/2877-amd-ryzen-7-9700x/ I'd guess this is why the release was delayed. Something definitely went wrong here. The 9000 series are a lot more efficient, and produce a lot less heat, but that's the main difference it would seem.
  11. Who knows. If I had to guess, it will be more than a year. Seems like some of the issues run deep. Before Ryzen back when AMD was well behind, it felt like Intel was iterating more than innovating just because there was no real competition. Back then, I would have thought Intel had some tricks up it's sleeve it hadn't used yet that they could play if/when AMD caught up, but they didn't really have anything special. Imagine how screwed Intel might be now if AMD hadn't been so far behind for so long. I think we all expected more from their attempt at GPUs by now as well. It's been years and they have essentially nothing serious to show for it. Doesn't feel like a particularly healthy company right now, and it doesn't seem like there are any quick solutions to their issues. Seems like they have a lot of pain ahead. I'm certainly no expert on any of this tho. Just my two cents.
  12. This. As a small business owner, I've had to deal with Google ads to advertise locally. It's just a bidding war. Whoever pays the most, wins. The amount you have to pay in a particular area is based on what others are paying. If Google AI came along and was actually good at filtering through the noise and finding good listings without basing it on adspend, it would totally circumvent Google's main revenue flow. Their AI cannot be allowed to be good for exactly that reason.
  13. Valve is working on Project White Sands; everybody thinks it's Half-Life 3 | TechSpot If true, it seems that Valve may want voxel physics to be the next big gimmick for Half Life.
  14. Google illegally maintains monopoly over internet search, judge rules (msn.com) Took them 4 years to conclude what we all already know. In other news, this is not directly related, but is interesting to note here: https://www.techspot.com/news/104126-microsoft-edge-desktop-browser-approaches-14-market-share.html
  15. Nvidia's next-gen Blackwell chip may be facing delays due to design flaws WWW.TECHSPOT.COM Nvidia's highly anticipated Blackwell series of AI chips is facing significant delays due to design flaws discovered... Seems like a lot of chip makers are having issues lately.
  16. I wonder if they might feel the need to free up some cash to cover the cost of the 13th/14th gen CPU issues.

  20. Yeah, like I said I generally don't post much there anymore. Almost never post anything myself, and only ever occasionally answer people's questions. But again, I'm just a regular user. I want this site to do well as I think we all do, but that's not why I don't use OCN much anymore. It's just because OCN is lame now, and if they are creating fake content over there, that just makes it even worse. Knowing a lot of us here came from there, it just seemed relavent to bring this up, and especially over there where it can serve as a warning to users who don't want to waste time going over fake content.
  21. I used to be the main person posting news on OCN back before they changed the format and took away the news section. I usually post more news here, but I was sick lately. If you do post news, if you're on a PC it's a lot faster if you use multi-copy-paste which you can do with windows key + C/V. A news bot would be tricky because it would be hard for a bot to know what kind of news is actually relavent vs mindless clickbait. Side note on the site activity: I'm just a normal user, I have no stake in this site beyond just hoping it does well so we have a good place to talk about tech stuff. I don't know any details about how well either site is doing, but I just want to point out that even though the amount of active users here may not be that high, it seems like there are a lot of people visiting the site who don't have accounts. The other day the I happened to notice the list of people logged in where it also shows how many guests are on the site, and at the time there were like 5 users logged in and another 200 guests. Seemed like a lot more guest users than I would have... guessed.
  22. https://www.ign.com/articles/gundam-requiem-for-vengeance-trailer-showcases-giant-robot-warfare-release-date-sdcc-2024 I watched Gundam a bit as a kid. Could be cool to revisit it. This is the first I've heard of UE5 being used for an entire film. Side note: I had covid lately which is why I didn't post any news for a while. Was just too out of it. Better now.
  23. https://www.guru3d.com/story/amd-ryzen-9-9950x-overclocked-to-6-ghz-shows-multicore-performance-increase/ Not a huge OC, but looks to have a bit more headroom than previous generations perhaps.
  24. Since you edited your comment, I'll reply to the part you added. I don't think this issue in regards to this specific example is a factor of OCN being a larger site. My best guess is that this bot is intentionally there to boost traffic/Google analytics. I've seen a lot of spam bots on OCN that just post links to random stuff, but I haven't seen this before, or at least not with such obvious real and fake threads on display at the same time. I suspect the bot messed up here by copying a post that was so recent, but it's entirely possible OCN has a lot more posts like this; that copy old content, alter it slightly, and repost it. Can't control, but I'd be happy to remove the link if you want me to. I honestly just thought it made sense to post an link to an alt site in this context.
