  2. Quote It’s another one of those days, I had an idea that I assumed would be a train wreck of a fail however after giving it the old college try I was more than amazed to see the result. Today I design and print an EK 120mm radiator clone, there is no way a plastic radiator could work, RIGHT? Well, things do not go as I planned.   I was pretty surprised this worked as well as it did, opens up a lot of options for custom shaped radiators for cases.
  3. I should probably promote the next Foldathon here eh:
  4. Yeah, the cost of data density, but thinking that 4 of those on a PCIe 16x expansion card with cooling means 16 TB per PCIe slot, that is pretty bonkers to think of for just raw storage of 4k/8k footage, or game libraries. Even better if you do a combined RAID 10 of the 4 drives to get redundant 8TB of storage...
  5. Considering my X570 chipset runs at 65C with the fan running, I think they they do need them. I believe the X570 is around 15W or something versus the 5W of the X470. Now with that said, I don't hear my chipset fan at all, its not a high static load and not super high airflow.
  6. Our beloved Podcast guest Wendell from Level1Techs has done a pretty great breakdown of some SSD technologies in this video along with reviewing the product, worth a quick watch. Also a quick reminder about putting high-performance M.2 SSD's in a laptop as a boot drive with no proper cooler can affect the life of the SSD.
  7. Hello all, Welcome to the ExtremeHW Folding Competition, December 23rd - 25th, Midnight UTC. Countdown to Event In the spirit of folding for the cause and good old friendly competition between members, we are hosting another folding competition. For more details please see below. How to participate: During the competition you must be folding for Team 239902 You must post in this thread with "IN" followed by your folding username. Prizes: $25 USD PayPal (axipher) 1x CH510 Coolermaster Cupholder (ENTERPRISE) Folding Time Prizes: 1 Week of Cerberus' 1080ti for around 2.3M PPD (Cerberus) All "Folding Time" prizes will require your username/passkey to be given to the donator, this will not give them any of your personal information, it just let's them be able to contribute full points to your username. Passkeys need at least 10 full Work Units to start getting the full Quick Return Bonus. Alternatively, you could setup another passkey for your Folding@Home username with a different email address and fold your first 10 units on that. This would still put the points towards your username, but they would also be tracked by a different passkey. Please note all winners must claim within 30 days from announcement of the winners. Good luck to all! axipher
  8. Cheers and glad to have you mate
  9. Source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/16284/asrock-announces-razer-collaboration-with-razer-taichi-edition-x570-and-b550 I still have my Fatal1ty 990FX motherboard, it's always interesting who AsRock will team up with next for their products. I'm kind of happy to see Razer integrated to the motherboard lighting as it means Only needing Rzer's software instead of AsRock + Razer. Also curious if this will eventually get supported by OpenRGB 0.5.
  10. Stripe is payment processing and I think @ENTERPRISE is using that for the site donations, maybe it's just picking that up?
  11. Yeah, This would be great for some simulators maybe, but with that wide of a screen, I fear you might start to notice the lack of vertical space. Might not be bad for driving games though or like a mech warrior style game without much vertical movement. Maybe World of Tanks or Warships?
  12. Which update? My Sapphire Pulse 5700 with +20% Power Limit is still getting 950k - 1.1m depending on the work unit and whatever Windows 10 is trying to do in the background.
  13. Source: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OpenRGB-0.5-Released Good news for Windows and Linux users with lots of RGB hardware. I just tried the Windows Binary and it detects my Asus X570 board no problem, doesn't find my Razer Death Adder 2013 or Logitech G903 though. I didn't expect the Death Adder 2013 to be support as it's just a couple Green LED's, and Logitech's software isn't actually that bad since it let's you manage the profiles and everything as well.
  14. Source: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/fsp-hydro-ptm-pro-1200-w/ Seems to be a middle of the pack high wattage unit, not to say its bad, but some notable issues TechPower-up had with the unit during their testing: Two EPS connectors on the same cable axipher: there are two cables, one with a single 4/4, the other with an 8 + a 4/4. So to a new user with a motherboard that has two 8-pins, or 8+4, they could end up using the single cable with dual connectors. This *could* cause issues if they do some big overclocks are are running HEDT off of it so I can understand putting this as a downside to this PSU Low efficiency with 2% load axipher: my quick look through shows this as the only test where they ran at 115 V, all the rest was at 230 V Large dimensions (190 mm deep) axipher: Wouldn't really call this a con on its own since most high-power systems are going to be in larger cases anyway, but there are other options taht are shorter, I wouldn't have deducted points for this, just noted it. Not fully compatible with the newest ATX specification (v2.52) axipher: LTT has a nice break-down for those interested
  15. Source: https://www.techpowerup.com/261763/aoc-announces-the-agon-ag493ucx-monitor-49-va-5120-x-1440-120-hz-1ms-32-9-freesync-and-displayhdr-400 Personally not a fan of curved monitors, but that's quite the width on a single monitor.
  16. Source: https://www.techpowerup.com/275773/qnap-launches-the-quad-core-8-bay-ts-832px-nas Lots of cooling, storage and networking, the expansion port is only PCIe Gen2 x2, so not sure what expansions cards will really be useful in this thing.
  17. The power supply seems to have acted correctly in preventing a short from happening, so no parts should have gotten damaged. If the motherboard has some onboard fuses for those power connectors, there's a chance that 4-pin might actually just be useless now. The 4-pin is also optional as I'm sure you may know, so unless you plan to do some crazy overclocking, you should be fine without it. Personally though, I would definitely get the board replaced before it has the chance to do any damage, it sucks to have to wait for a new motherboard though
  18. I did the Physical prizes as one drawing and the Folding Time prizes as a separate drawing. I was excluded from the prize draws since I'm doing the drawing If someone won a Gold membership who had a Platinum, they would get the next prize instead and I would redraw The users who donated folding time were excluded from that prize drawing Prizes: $25 USD PayPal (@axipher) Won by @Bastiaan_NL 1 Year Gold Membership (@Bastiaan_NL) Won by @tictoc A game or games of your choice with a cap at 70 EUR on a platform that can send gifts (ie : steam, GoG, etc) (@Mistio) Won by @NavJack27 Western Digital PC SN720 256GB SSD (Shipping included) (@tictoc) Won by @Mistio Folding Time Prizes: 1 Week of Bastiaan_NL's RTX 2080 Super for around 3M PPD (@Bastiaan_NL) Won by @bonami2 1 Week of Cerberus' 1080ti for around 2.3M PPD (@Cerberus) Won by @steakikan 1 Week of Supercrumpet's 2080 Ti for around 4-4.5M PPD (@Supercrumpet) Won by @Mistio All winners have 30 days to contact the user who donated the prize and arrange the prize, please add me to the PM for verification All Folding Time Prize Winners will need to provide their username/passkey to the donator. If you are uncomfortable in sending your passkey, please PM the donator and myself anyway and we will come up with an alternate method, likely using a throwaway passkey using a different email with the same Folding@Home username.
  19. Is anyone here folding with the Folding@Home Username "Chicken"? I have no ExtremeHW username to link to that folding username
