Welcome to the ExtremeHW Folding Competition, Saturday, August 27th
ATTENTION Extreme Team Folding Participants: Please make sure you do not fold anything under your ETF GPU Passkey except for the GPU you are participating in the event with. You need to use a 2nd passkey to fold anything else in this event.
In the spirit of folding for the cause and good old friendly competition between members, we are hosting another folding competition. For more details please see below.
How to participate:
During the competition you must be folding for Team 239902
You must post in this thread with "IN" followed by your folding username.Prizes:
- $25 BWG (minimum of 10 work units) -
- $25 axipher(minimum of 10 work units) -
- Donations from @bwalker36 in spoiler below
SpoilerSo we will have 3 prizes, with the winners chosen at random from those who compete and have at least 10 WUs completed. We will draw 1-3 and they can pick the prize they want in order, number 3 doesn't get a choice :). It probably goes without saying but I will not be in the drawing for prizes as I don't want this stuff anymore lol.
- Gigabyte 980 Ti Gaming G1, Custom Bios, was just taken apart and repasted with new fans. If I remember correctly I was able to get ovet 1510 core on this guy.
- 8700k, Asus Tachi, 16gb ram, I could hit 4.8 with ease on this guy and board combo I'm sure someone better at tweaking could hit 5ghz.
- 4690k
Folding Time Prizes:
Excluded from Prizes:
- BWG
- firedfly
- Avacado
- tictoc (Q_Cruncher)
All "Folding Time" prizes will require your username/passkey to be given to the donator, this will not give them any of your personal information, it just let's them be able to contribute full points to your username. Passkeys need at least 10 full Work Units to start getting the full Quick Return Bonus. Alternatively, you could setup another passkey for your Folding@Home username with a different email address and fold your first 10 units on that. This would still put the points towards your username, but they would also be tracked by a different passkey. Please note all winners must claim within 30 days from announcement of the winners.
Current Event Stats (Full Page Viewing Link)
Note: Stats are updated every hour at XX:25 for previous hour of submitted Work Units. The first update at 00:25 AM UTC will set the "zero" for your points based on all the WU's submitted up to 12 AM UTC.
Good luck to all!

Stats were broken last month. Prizes could carry over to this month if that's ok with everyone?
Damric asked me to run fat this month and next. Axipher still has a stats issue last I saw. I'll bug the powers that be more to see what they would like to do for August, and then put the thread up.

Congrats! I hope you have a good time doing this!

Well, it's been a while since I gave an update, but I thought I'd go ahead and let you know how things are going with my family. I lost my Mother this past Sunday, and her funeral is today.
My Brother-in-law is near the end of his stage 4 battle with cancer. No more chemo can be done, and his underlying conditions do not make him a good fit for new treatments. He is likely going to hospice soon.
My Step-Mother is doing a bit better after discovering 3 heart blockages she had emergency heart surgery to fix, but she's still losing her memory.
So, not a very good time lately, but I am doing good. I am handling it ok. We're blessed. I appreciate all of your support. I hope the forum lives on.
@ENTERPRISEI hope your situation improves soon. Thinking of you!
@Bastiaan_NL @firedfly thank you both for checking in on me.

Couple questions, @ENTERPRISE
1) How can we help right now?
2) I don't speak for everyone here, but ideally, retaining you as a controlling owner, but absorbing #1, #2, and the second #2 seems like something this community could do, collectively?

Did you guys miss the memo that said FPN is supposed to win this month? You just passed us.

Don't you need a distiller, or is there a MacGyver way to do it?
Big pot of water with a bowl on top of the water and a lid upside down on the pot that seals the pot and makes the stream drip into the bowl.

I offer $1, must be free shipping too.
People should just make their own. It's pretty easy.

Looks like @firedfly is opting to use his prize during the next FAT.

Thought I would try to make up for the 13 hours my internet was down, so I fired up the 5700XT and 6800 XT and found out that they both get virtually the same PPD!! 1.6 Mil. Thought the 6 series would do better. Anyway also found out that if your new win 10 install is not updated that the 5700 will do 500k. Took me awhile to figure that one out. I wonder if they might do better on Linux. If anyone has any knowledge of that I would appreciate it. So the radeons each did 1 wu and I stopped them. Room was getting rather warm. Amazing the 2080 beats them both together.
Downgrading the AMD driver a couple versions will almost double the ppd.
I'll draw the prizes when I put the kids in bed tonight.

7 hours left! Good work so far in a hotter month of the year. I'd say we're on the map! We've been hovering around 6th in the world the past few days.

All systems go! How's everyone staying cool during this one?

Exciting to see the CPU race being so competitive. I don't see myself upgrading for a while though. My CPU is basically the same as console CPUs plus some extra clock speed and I don't see any games coming out for a long time that will need more CPU power than that. UE5 is in a bad place right now when it comes to CPU optimization for Nanite and Lumen, but they're going to have to figure that out if they want UE5 to run on consoles so I'd imagine when something like that actually releases, it will be GPU bottleneck in 4K like always with anything that matches or exceeds consoles specs.
But hey, if any of you guys with a 5800x or better need someone to buy your old CPU when you upgrade, hit me up.
120% over msrp?? I'll sell now!

Honestly, I'd throw old machine parts on eBay no reserve and use it to buy more efficient hardware.

What should we do about the Monthly Foldathon? @axipherare the stats still broken? If so, maybe we should ask z if he wants to try and make something?
Edit: Never mind, stats shoud be fixed and event was threaded.
