Give it a couple months for 4070ti supers to actually be in stock and AMD to be forced to drop prices. Either would be a decent upgrade.

Yep, definitely - helping a bud and we're thinking he gives me a small amount for my card - I give him a 10850K to pair it with + some RAM - I get a new card and hopefully some faster RAM (more stable high speed) - but, MIGHT also need new MOBO if I can't find a reasonably priced over 4000MT DDR4 kit beating out my 3200 CL14 (I'm sure something is out there).

So... yeah cause I am NOT giving up my 10900K JUST YET. LOL.

  2. I'm on my early-adopter 6800XT still that I paid dearly for during COVID.

And now, the only REAL path upgrade for me - it seems - would be either a 7900XTX or a 4070Ti Super.

Am I in the right ballpark?

Maybe a quick 15 second YouTube video commercial? Then we could link it to stuff. Maybe YouTubes algorithm would recommend it to some tekkies with a little luck.

"Are you tired of those other forums?"

**cuts to clip of Linus apologizing for something**

    "Try EHW!"

    🤣

    YES. Oh lawdy.

    Why do you need that?

My bud is has been researching on his end knowing he's going to get a used 10850K and while my results can't formally conclude a good/bad IMC; his research tells him he's looking at 16-phase boards providing the best memory options. Since he's getting a 3-year old + platform, he wants to try and get 4600DDR4 running stable at CL18 or better. He's read/perused many reviews/users reports etc believing that the higher end boards have MUCH more headroom on RAM than the mid range (like my MPG).

Less than $300? That seems pretty high. $150 should be enough for a good Intel board. Just avoid ASRock.

We put the limit at $300 for a hopefully new-in-box board; but yes I agree. Mostly what I am looking at are the 16-phase boards which all come in at or over $300.

Maximus line, etc. The high end boards.

  6. Hi errbody!

Got a 10850K lying around to give to my best bud. Have some RAM for him as well and we need suggestions on a Z490 board. Looked into Z590; but offers nothing without CPU upgrade. So....

Looking for suggestions at under $300 US for a BNIB board OR used. I'm hoping someone has experience with 10th gen and especially the 10850K on a series of tested boards.  ASUS Maximus line comes to mind but I haven't toyed with GB/EVGA/ASROCK etc.

Don't need links unless someone thinks "OMG" this is a steal... but definitely looking for suggestions. I wasn't super stoked on the MSI MPG platform (which I'm still on) so maybe even another line is better?

    Thanks, very very much!

    Tony Hawk Underground nostalgia 🥰

I was lucky enough to grow up in the 80's / 90's in the South Bay of Los Angeles. I'm no pro skater, but I skated with Rodney Mullen (me and 3 friends are in an OLD shorty's VHS back in the day watching him), Daewon, Bam, Weeman, and a bunch of the oldschool ET Surf sponsored guys. I mean... maybe I was more around than skating with... by Daewon I have a video (somewhere) of him 360-kickflipping over my mom's 1989 Caprice Station wagon off a 1' kicker ramp my buds n I built.

    ❤️ skateboards. Love punk rock.

  8. There is so much going on behind the scenes too. So, so much. So much very few people would likely even care to share, let alone able to

It's interesting to me where a lot of the theory for building AI comes from and how it is implemented. Based on what's publicly available and of the dozens and dozens of companies (and otherwise) working to create rationally thinking compute intelligence (able to reason), I see the solution already laid bare before us. Hear me out:

Breaking it all down in a very simple way it would essentially be networked collage of mini systems, each with a system built on one (possibly multi) model that can be learned; fact based - such as simple mathematics. Combining all of the 'base structures of factual intelligence' they get divided into intelligent-self-contained-systems and those are linked with other systems that only reason and infer  with the available data. Somewhere in the system are other integrated systems which handle all of the things you need to learn to rationalize. Combine all of these systems together and add layers of complexity with subsets of these kinds of systems (ie; this large idea of a system broken down further into similarly large but 'bundled' smaller systems), and you're not far off from being able to get very, very, very close to AGI or even (if given the elective to learn and change it's own code/base structure, but perhaps still possible not to control - implement a kill switch) - a 'super' AGI (essentially uncontrollable, kill switch unattainable). And given that when you realize AI work has been a field for much longer than the current rendition of the 'internet' and subsequent technological advances, along with the introduction of worldwide computer adoption (all industries etc), we've paved the groundwork for a lot of these systems to get trained, basic, generalized - factually based data. Seems to me the stage for reasoning 'training' is already past as well - humans have been providing that kind of information in various forms readily available for analysis. And for me, this is the 'behind the scenes' issue if I have to read between the lines of the OpenAI fiasco in Nov.

Ilya Sutskever is noted for boldly understanding the power requirements and technologies needed to enact connecting 'said' systems (with 'said' systems being all my own inference noed above and simply connecting the journalism covering Sutskever is the driving force pushing to find power/technology able to make the next iterations of AI possible because the ideology already exists in some form). If you run Sam Altman's route you kind of skirt the kill switch debate (not entirely), and you end up with a sort of - "well we can always unplug" approach and let the thing go. Sutskever doesn't think that's a good idea. But I think both agree on what and how to get where they need to go, obviously; otherwise you don't end up where we are now with OpenAI (at least on the surface).

This is all just my two cents on things... interesting times for interesting technologies. 2024 is really going to get really interesting (as has been noted in the MSM).

  9. I'm so with you - it makes me think Windows just gets GUI updates with a few sprinkled advancements in. And while I know that isn't technically true, my god!

The CP hasn't changed since the 90's! LOL.

That said I prefer Win11 over 10 simply for the better multi-monitor support. Will probably be happy with direct storage too, but alas we all wait. I don't debloat any more. I'm just too old. I just turn all the nonsensical stuff off (notifications, etc) and run.

  10. I don't wanna speak for anyone but myself, though I could easily entertain the idea is likely shared among us....

You! You go ahead and take your absolute time. Your contributions here are a cut above, better than first rate.

You do you baby, we all got time! 😛

  11. Coffee fan here.

I dunno why but the 7-11 'Brazilian' blend is my cheap go-to out and about. If they're out, I find a high voltage selection somewhere at a gas station (usually an Arco).

But at home in the morning I'm a fine grind guy. 5 cup maker (small pot) with 4 scoops of Kirkland from Costco. 3# @ $12. Hard to beat price-wise.

  12. I suggest Windows 11 IMHO.

I'm not even on a platform that will soak the new features up (still 10th Gen) - but just going from 10 to 11 was at first daunting.

    However I have subjectively found:

    A) Gaming is equal to or better, cannot say performance is because I have no dual boot testing/data

    B) Multi-monitor use is MUCH improved, still leaves a lil to be desired but HUGE improvement

    C) All the things any advanced Windows users use, are still there

    D) Get the Pro version, by far.

    E) Win10 IIRC will not support DirectStorage

  13. Oh man I was hoping this was gonna end up with;

"UltraMega on ETSY is the newest, hottest PC part picker and maker to buy from."

Dude, perma banned? Seems shady IMHO. But I'm also sure it left a bad vibe anyway.

I know you're looking at this as a simple side-hustle and not knowing your own situation (job/family/etc) I can bet it's time consuming beyond the building on top of life. Have you considered hosting/free hosting a cheap site you can link to in some of your ads and/or at least give folks a place to see "you" for you instead of being crammed in with 1000's of other sellers (NE/AMZ)?
