  1. I would love to have a phase change setup. Maybe someday. As goofy as GPUs are now with the absurd room temperature thermal throttling nonsense, it would be more useful for GPU cooling than CPU cooling. Living in the AZ blast furnace, the absence of humidity is well suited to chilled water and phase change. Condensation still needs to be monitored, but it is rarely an issue.
  2. Thank you. This kind of stuff is so much fun. Fast computers are very affordable alternative to fast cars and motorcycles. I don't even care about the latter anymore.
  3. All of my systems are multi-boot and I want each OS to have its own functional Windows or Linux bootloader. I disable the extra SATA and NVMe drives in the BIOS when installing an OS and then there is no opportunity for anything to happen that is inconsistent with my wishes. I then use the BIOS boot selection hotkey during POST to select the OS I want to use. Grub2 does a much better job of handling a multi-boot OS scenario than Windows does, but it is a much better option to control it in a more mechanical fashion that is OS agnostic.
  4. When I really started pushing my 3090 KPE with the 1kW XOC vBIOS using 1.350-1.400V NVDD and MSVDD @ LLC L15, I had to replace the circuit breaker with 20A for my home office because it kept flipping the 15A breaker. My Kill-A-Watt meter will often show more than 1100W being pulled from the wall in Time Spy Test 2 and up to 1200W in 3DMark 11 Test 1 when I am able to keep the chilled water cold enough to keep the core clocks from dropping. Even benching something like Catzilla pulls over 750W.
  5. Sadly, it seems like the magic of everything that was once good and awesome is gone now. That sounds very negative, but I have had more disappointments with tech-related stuff in the past year or two than I had during the past 20+ years. It seems everything is made half-assed, overpriced, underwhelming and unreliable. It has gotten to the point that I don't want to even think about buying anything new as long as what I have is working correctly, because what I buy has a good chance of being a disappointment. And, yeah... seems like most manufacturers don't care about the products, the people that buy them, or their making good on their promises (warranty).
  6. I have been purchasing products from them since they first opened in 2001. I have purchased components to build probably 20 or 25 desktops over the years. So far I have not encountered any difficulties, but I have seen enough examples of bad experiences that I know it happens. I have RMA'd motherboards and memory with no issues. I RMA'd a GPU with no issues. All of the returns were within 48 hours of delivery because I tested the products immediately and if they weren't of the quality that I expected them to be I sent them back immediately and got a refund. I have not tried to RMA anything after more than a day or two of the delivery date. I only buy products sold and shipped by NewEgg. I do not purchase anything from third-party sellers on NewEgg. I have done the same thing with Amazon and never have been given the run-around on a return. Amazon generally refunds my money faster than NewEgg does.
  7. Almost there. Need to shut the system down and let the chiller run to get the water a few more degrees colder so the core clocks will hold better. /img/logo.png Mr. Fox`s 3DMark - Port Royal score: 15967 marks with a GeForce RTX 3090 HWBOT.ORG The GeForce RTX 3090 @ 2250/11402MHzscores getScoreFormatted in the 3DMark - Port Royal benchmark. 9. I discovered them only recently and really like some of their work.
  10. Wow. Sounds pretty wicked. It will be interesting (maybe even humorous) to see how they cool something like that in a turdbook when they can't effectively manage the thermal demands of the components they are already using in them running less than half Gen5 speed.
  11. Hey brother... good to see you.

Hey Brother Fox, sorry about my late reply. There were too many alt sites after the close of NBN.

I'm glad you guys have settled in here. I'll keep this site close in my bookmarks.

  12. Hey bro! Good to see you. Blessings to you, friend.

  13. I guess I did, LOL. It was near the top of the list of recent posts for some reason. I did not pay attention to the original post date.
  14. Nice setup. When I abandoned laptop garbage in 2018, my first build upon returning to desktops was an 8700K. Intel Core i7 8700K @ 5624.58 MHz - CPU-Z VALIDATOR VALID.X86.FR [inp83u] Validated Dump by Mr. Fox (2018-04-22 03:23:40) - MB: Asus ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (WI-FI AC) - RAM: 32768 MB
  15. That is what I have. It's certainly nothing spectacular or impressive, but the pricing offers better bang for buck and build quality is better than some of the more expensive brands and models. There is really no point in spending more when you get nothing in return for the extra cost. They are all disposable, run hot and leave much to be desired.
  16. Yeah, back in the day when they still had socketed CPUs and MXM GPUs Alienware and MSI had some decent high performance notebooks. Alienware hasn't released anything worth buying since the M18xR2. Unfortunately, now even Clevo is selling only the chintzy soldered trash. The X170 was the last of the Mohicans and it is discontinued. I would definitely recommend building a desktop instead. Unless you are traveling all of the time and seldom home to use it, going ultra-inexpensive on a laptop and going wild on a desktop is a much smarter way to go. I abandoned laptops in 2015 and I have never regretted it for a moment. If you do travel a lot and are not home enough to use a desktop, there is really nothing impressive left to choose from that is available in notebooks at any price point. I seldom use the junkbook in my signature, but it is inexpensive and I don't expect much from it. It works OK if I have to go on a business trip. Better than trying to use a smartphone or tablet.
  17. That merely begs the question... why not? If we can't abuse our stuff, what's the point in owning it? If it is a disposable turdbook with the CPU and GPU soldered to the mainboard, I can see where abusing it would be more problematic. The entire machine is a throw-away part with few serviceable components. No opportunity to correct your silicon lottery losses by tossing in a different CPU/GPU... you're stuck with the cards you were dealt.
  18. We finally got Windows 10 to look as nice as Windows 7 did with a few registry hacks and third party apps; now they redefine ugliness on a whole different level, on an order of magnitude never imagined possible.
  19. Tux is angry because someone created a new Windows 11 desktop theme for Linux. Ugliness has a way of finding you no matter where you go.
  20. They don't make good laptops anymore. They are are all too thin, too light, disposable soldered-on crap one shot wonders. That's why I invented the name "turdbook" because that's what they are now. Their crippled cancer firmware is the cherry on top. Poopalicious silicon abortions, LoL
  21. A man after my own heart. Quake 2 RTX and UT2004. I have played through Quake and Quake 2 at least a dozen times each since they were initially released. Then Quake 2 RTX just made it even more awesome and I think I have played through it twice so far. These are the games that make you feel like a badass even when you're not, LOL. The only games that are equally legendary and addictive are those in the Crysis, Wolfenstein and Doom franchises. I never get tired of them because they are run and gun fragfest on steroids. No complicated story to interfere with the havock and mayhem. My favorite way to play. ~Godmode ~Giveall ~Giveammo Lather, rinse, repeat. Yee-haw!!!
  22. @Papusan is a good guy. We have been friends for a long time.
  23. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, I suppose. If pressed to identify something nice to say, it would be "they're not Apple" LOL.
  24. I am in the "this is very bad news" camp. The Redmond Reprobates suck. They ruin everything they touch, including their own OS. They are control freaks and like a slowly metastasizing cancer. They can stuff the subscription SaaS model up their tailpipe. They have already shown us what Micro$lop Game Studios does... forcing gamers to run the latest and not-greatest version of their trashy OS with all of the update filth applied to play their garbage UWP M$ Store games. No thanks.
